JADED STAR are back with a music video of their song “ADRIAN”, which was filmed and recorded LIVE at The Crow Club Athens! “Due to the pandemic we haven’t been able to play our music live and share this experience with a real live audience. We had a fantastic time during our performance at The Crow and we are looking forward to hit the road again!” the band says.

Irish metallic hardcore quartet BAILER have released a video for their new single ‘B*stard Son’. The track is the third glimpse into their long-awaited debut album Disposable Youth, due for release on 12th November 2021 via Blood Blast Distribution.
The video for ‘B*stard Son’ was directed, animated and edited by Mt Emult (Genghis Tron, Year of the Knife, Veil of Maya). Watch it here:
‘B*stard Son’ showcases the more intense, bitter and abrasive side of the band’s debut full-length. Clocking in at under two minutes, ‘B*stard Son’ wastes no time slapping the fury in your face over blast beats and breakdowns, and should be a stark surprise to those who thought BAILER may have softened their sound on Disposable Youth.
Following on from 2018’s self-titled EP (Distroy Records), 2017’s PTSD and 2016’s Shaped By The Landscape, BAILER’s ambitious collection of tracks is about to expand and truly propel their notoriety outside of their native Ireland.
Recorded, mixed, mastered and produced by Lewis Johns at The Ranch Production House in Southampton, Disposable Youth dives into a grim view of the world from a place of manic depression and nihilism. 100% of the material was written in a room together: no writing on computers or demos being shared around virtually. For Disposable Youth, BAILER consciously decided to write every single song in a jam room together, fleshing it all out and creating what felt right in real life. There’s nothing wrong or right about any form of creativity, but the results speak for themselves.
Having impressively garnered attention from Metal Hammer, Kerrang!, Metal Injection and Heavy Blog Is Heavy so early into their career, BAILER have proven to be Ireland’s most exhilarating heavy band. With an impressive live résumé to match, playing shows alongside Norma Jean, Sick Of It All,The Black Dahlia Murder, Conjurer, Employed To Serve, Palm Reader, Malevolence, God Mother, Coilguns and more, the quartet are setting their sights on becoming one of hardcore’s most exciting prospects.
In the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic, BAILER began to mark their territory further afield, having successfully toured Russia and the UK extensively in support of their EPs. Now, with their debut album on the horizon and after kicking off proceedings with Bloodstock Festival last month, BAILER are eager to get back on international stages.
Disposable Youth tracklisting:
1. Blackout 2. Bastard Son 3. Out Of Frame 4. Cruel Master 5. Strung Out 6. Scourge 7. Gateway Drug 8. No Apologies 9. There Is Love That Remains 10. Fester
Drummer Sebastian Lanser of technical metal band OBSIDIOUS is now releasing a drum playthrough for the band’s latest single ‘Iconic’. The track is taken from the band’s upcoming debut album, which will be released via the label in 2022 via Season of Mist.
OBSIDIOUS drummer Sebastian Lanser comments: “Iconic was the first song we wrote as Obsidious which also became our first released single. It’s a quite challenging and complex song that involves polymeters, n-tuplet phrasing, multiple meter and tempo changes – which are metric modulations in our case because everything is mathematically related. It’s almost equally complex in rhythmical and technical terms. That being said, it took me quite a bit to master but I love it and I am very proud of it.”
Recently, Season of Mist announced the signing of OBSIDIOUS. The signing announcement was accompanied by the band’s first single ‘Iconic’, which can be viewed along with the music video HERE.
Roots singer-songwriter and guitarist DAVY KNOWLES is raising hell on his new single, “Hell To Pay,” out today via Provogue/Mascot Label Group. Featured on Knowles’ upcoming record and Provogue Records debut, ‘What Happens Next,’ out October 22nd, “Hell To Pay” is something of a departure from Knowles’s fired-up and reverent take on blues and Americana. “’Hell To Pay’ is my first attempt at writing a song in a genre that I’ve been a fan of for forever,” Knowles explains. “I am a huge fan of soul music and was listening non-stop to Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, The Fantastic Negrito, as well as soul/funk singers like Sly Stone. I wish I could sing like that, but instead of perhaps trying of too hard to be something I’m not, I think it ended up with a blues-rock twist to it. It was really fun for me to step outside of my comfort zone, both as a songwriter and a musician.”
On the aptly-titled new album, Knowles boldly steps forward with timeless and cohesive songwriting; sleek modern production; and a lyrical, play-for-the-song guitar approach informed from soul, folk, rock, and blues. The 12-song album is just as influenced by The Black Keys, Fantastic Negrito, Gary Clark Jr., as it is Muddy Waters, Junior Kimbrough, and R.L. Burnside. It is a cohesive body of work rather than a collection of disparate songs. “When it came time to record this album, it was all about supporting the songs as opposed to ‘how quickly I can get to the guitar solo’,” the Isle of Man-born, Chicago-based artist says laughing. “I’m not a purist, and the way for roots music to stay relevant is to adapt and progress.”
Produced by Eric Corne (John Mayall, Joe Walsh, Joe Bonamassa), ‘What Happens Next’ offers a peaks-and-valleys album experience winding through brawny riffs, jazzy blues balladry, and vintage soul, before concluding with one of Knowles’s most personal songs released to date. Throughout it all, his guitar playing is brilliantly understated, his rhythm work is deft and dynamic. The album bursts open with, “Light Of The Moon,” a swaggering riff-rocker replete with vibey 1960s organ flourishes, hooky minor-tinged refrains, and impassioned soul-drenched vocals. Here, Davy’s lead breaks drip sustain, vibrato, and sublime bluesy melodicism.
Knowles first burst onto the scene at the age of 20 with his band Back Door Slam, garnering rave reviews, making national US television appearances (Jimmy Kimmel Live, Good Morning America), earning extensive triple-A radio airplay, and achieving two Top 5 Billboard Blues charting albums. Since then he has been solo, and he independently released two more studio albums, 2014’s The Outsider and 2016’s Three Miles From Avalon, which also hit the Top 5 on the Billboard Blues chart. He’s earned plum endorsements from D’Addario strings, PRS guitars, Bludotone amps, and Celestion speakers, became the first musician in history to play live directly to the International Space Station from Mission Control in Houston, and held his own sharing the stage with such heavyweight artists as The Who, Jeff Beck, Gov’t Mule, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kid Rock, Joe Bonamassa, Sonny Landreth, Peter Frampton, Joe Satriani, and Sammy Hagar, among many others.
Despite the songs on ‘What Happens Next’ featuring concise lead guitar playing, fans of Knowles’s fleet-fingered lead style fear not for the blues-rock fire still burns inside him. Knowles says: “This album taught me about restraint in terms of guitar playing. I had to reign it in to let the songs breathe, but I am looking forward to reimagining them and stretching out when we play live.”
Hot on the heels of the release of the ‘s latest full-length album “Flyblown Prince”, the genre-defying UK band have come up with an interesting way to look back at their very significant history by releasing “nrcsss”, a five-track album that they have made available to download and enjoy for free.
As the band explains, “nrcsss” is an acoustic album that takes a retrospective look at each period of CODES’ musical creativity, and is a thank you to the fans who have supported the band over the years:
Whilst not an official entry into the Code canon, ‘nrcsss’ is a sideways acoustic interpretation of a song from each era of Code’s history to date. Getting progressively more oblique as each track passes, it may not always be clear to see the link to the original inspiration, but the signs are there for the discerning listener. Enjoy these selection of songs for free by way of a thank you for your continued support.
To appreciate what fans can expect from “nrcsss”, it is interesting to look back on the history of CODE, which was formed in London in 2002 from the black ruminations of Aort’s early project, SEASONAL CODE. Since then the band has drawn a creative line through a series of full-length studio albums starting with the brittle avant-garde of 2005’s “Nouveau Gloaming”, to 2009’s Spellemann-nominated “Resplendent Grotesque”, before moving on to the mad theatre of 2013’s “Augur Nox”, and the bleak, anaesthetic wash of 2015’s “mut”.
In 2015 CODE also released a savage live tour recording, whilst 2017 saw the appearance of two EP’s “Lost Signal”, which was largely a live re-forging of the material from a new perspective, and “Under the Subgleam” which served as a hint at what would eventually develop in today’s “Flyblown Prince”.
Which brings us to June 2021 and the release of CODE’s fifth full-length album. Released on Dark Essence Records “Flyblown Prince” is a perverse fairy tale of an album that guides its listeners through the twists and turns of a dark and ghoulish nightmare fantasy of cinematic proportions.
With a lineup on “Flyblown Prince” that includes Aort on Guitars, Lordt on Drums, Syhr on Bass and Wacian on Vocals, with guitarist Andras providing support on the recordings, CODE have succeeded in creating an ever-shifting soundscape of moods and violent aggression. It is a progressive album, both musically and technically, and one the likes of which hasn’t been heard in years, and is, quite possibly, the most intense and extreme album the band has ever produced.
Cover art for “Flyblown Prince” is by Kristina Pavleska, layout by Costin Chioreanu and photography by Julie Cottrell, and the album is available in CD, Digital and Vinyl formats from all the usual retailers and streaming services, as well as directly from Dark Essence Records at:
1. Flyblown Prince 2. Clemency & Atropy 3. By the Charred Stile 4. Rat King 5. From the Next Room 6. Dread Stridulate Lodge 7. Scold’s Bride 8. The Mad White Hair
