Swedish horror outfit OPERA DIABOLICUS will be releasing a brand new full-length, ‘Death on a Pale Horse,’ on November 26, 2021 via Season of Mist! The cover art, tracklist, and other details can be found below. The band is now sharing the epic first single, ‘Darkest Doom on the Brightest of Days,’ along with a music video! The song and accompanying clip can be found at THIS LOCATION.

OPERA DIABOLICUS comments: “Finally, the cat is out of the bag and we’re ready to unleash the first song of the upcoming album. The song itself, entitled ´Darkest Doom on the Brightest of Days,’ gives a good hint of things to come and displays excellent performances from both Mats Levén (Skyblood, Krux, Ex-Candlemass, Ex-Therion etc.) and Snowy Shaw (Notre Dame, Ex-King Diamond, Ex-Mercyful Fate etc) as well as the outstanding job by Mixmaster Jens Bogren (Fascination Street Studios). Accompanied with a fantastic lyric video that really catches the mystique of the song we believe this will entice disciples of epic horror metal in the vein of King Diamond, Mercyful Fate and Candlemass. So, if you’re one of those disciples, please enjoy and mark the date of the forthcoming release in your calendar.”

‘Darkest Doom on the Brightest of Days’ is now available to pre-order HERE.

WHEN THE DEADBOLT BREAKS Unleash Album Details & Brand New Single

For over fifteen years, New England’s When The Deadbolt Breaks has lurked in the dark corners of underground metal. With a doom style both psychedelic and unsettling, their music has been labeled many things -heavy, daunting, overwhelming, unnerving-  while the band is singer/guitarist Aaron Lewis’s gritty vision of life on the subcultural fringes of New England society. Following five highly acclaimed studio records, a split and a remix album to date, November 26th will see When The Deadbolt Breaks release their brand new album, As Hope Valley Burns, via Italy’s powerhouse Argonauta Records!

After the previously- released, first single “The Crushing Weight of the Sun”, today the Connecticut-based four- piece has shared another heavy appetizer of their upcoming album. Listen to “The Evil”, now available on all digital platforms, here:

For more than a decade When The Deadbolt Breaks has carved a niche for themselves within the interplay of extreme genres. Having played the SXSW, New England Stoner & Doom Fest to name just a few, they are as well no less at home in grind than they are in pummeling sludge or ambient soundscaping, casting forth triumphant riffs or proffering murder-dirge nods at a volume level that can only be considered violent. When The Deadbolt Breaks have always struck a balance between the ugly and beauty: long compositions wade through detuned, discordant, and murky sludge before shifting into melodic ambient space rock territories, and back again. It’s not hard to see that cinema is often what informs Lewis’s songwriting: the grueling discomfort of E. Elias Merhige or surreality of David Lynch have provided as much inspiration as his musical influences.

“This album is a unique one for When The Deadbolt Breaks. We have pushed our boundaries sonically,” Band mastermind Lewis reveals. “The heavy is heavier, and the mellow, spacial parts are even more so. Akin to our first few records, we have returned to more aggressive drumming, and psychedelic spaces, yet this record has a certain depth and maturity to it that was missing in the past.”

Album Tracklist:

  1. The Evil
  2. The Hanged Woman
  3. Awakening
  4. The Crushing Weight Of The Sun
  5. So Lost Are We

As Hope Valley Burns is slated for a release on November 26, 2021, with a pre- sale to follow on Argonauta Records soon. The band has also been added to the bill of this years’ Maryland Doom Fest.

So far, they have released a demo “9” plus six full-length releases – „Still Alive” (2010), „Back to Beginning” (2012), „118” (2014), “The Sun Also Rises For Unicorns” (2015), “Swans And Lions” (2018) and “Exit: A Good Day To Die” (2019). PARADISE LOST Release ‘The Lost and the Painless’ Limited Edition on November 26th

Creators, pioneers & purveyors of the Gothic Doom Metal scene which came to prominence in the early 90s, Britain’s PARADISE LOST rose from humble Northern roots to become one of the UK’s leading artists in the metal genre throughout the decade and beyond, remaining as relevant and revered as ever to this day after a career spanning over three decades.

To mark the 30 years since the release of the band’s iconic sophomore album, Gothic, Peaceville will release The Lost And The Painless – a stunning limited edition expansive 7 disc hardback book featuring 6CDs and 1DVD, containing the full works of both the formative and Peaceville years of the UK Gods. From the early incarnation of the band finding their feet in a death metal landscape which was still in its relative infancy, to their early live appearances showcasing the clear talent of the Yorkshire quintet, this deluxe set also incorporates the band’s legendary studio albums in the shape of the influential deathly doom debut, Lost Paradise, as well as the ground-breaking & genre-defining follow-up, Gothic.

The included DVD features four shows, leading with the ‘Live Death’ concert from 1989, followed by a trilogy of captured performances between 1990 & 1991, as Paradise Lost were beginning to mark their gradual ascension with a host of now classic tracks from their early repertoire.

The Lost Paradise and Gothic albums, plus the Gothic EP have been specially remastered for this set by Jaime Gomez Arellano at Orgone Studios.

Also contained in the set is a 92-page book written by prolific music journalist, Nick Ruskell, delving into those essential early years of the band, as described by vocalist Nick Holmes & guitarist Gregor Mackintosh with their recollections of their early efforts to put Paradise Lost firmly on the map, as well as additional thoughts from a selection of prominent members of the scene, including Peaceville founder Paul “Hammy” Halmshaw, Barney Greenway of Napalm Death, My Dying Bride’s Aaron Stainthorpe, & also Chris Reifert who himself embarked upon a tour with the Englishmen with Autopsy back in 1990. Furthermore, the book contains an amount of previously unseen photos recovered from the band’s early promo shoots with photographer Porl Medlock.

Nick Holmes comments “Looking at the artwork for ‘The Lost And The Painless’ and remembering those early albums and live shows, It’s amazing to think that ‘Gothic’ was released 30 years ago.

It serves as a very important chapter in the life of the band and conjures a lot of nostalgia from the early 90’s. We lived off crisps, slept in squats, on people’s floors and under vehicles. Cigarettes were £1.50 a packet, Stella Artois beer was still 5.2% proof, and travelling in a Ford Transit van with all the equipment and 10 people sitting on an old mattress was considered normal.

Distant memories aside, it was also a great time for Death Metal music in general, and ‘The Lost And The Painless’ serves as a timely reminder.”

The foreword for ‘The Lost and the Painless’ comes courtesy of long-time appreciator of all things dark & gothic, Dani Filth, vocalist of UK extreme metal masters, Cradle of Filth.

On 26th November, alongside The Lost And The Painless Peaceville will release a limited gold coloured vinyl LP and cassette of the original recording of Gothic to celebrate the 30th anniversary.

THE STONE EYE Reveal New “Aleutian Summer” Music Video & Single

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 8, 2021

Experimental grunge-rockers THE STONE EYE have revealed a new music video for their latest single “Aleutian Summer“. The video was directed by Stephen Burdick. Watch it right now at this location. “Aleutian Summer” is the third single from the band’s sixth full-length album South Of The Sun following two previous music videos for the singles “Witches & Raptures”, and “Catatonia”. South Of The Sun is scheduled for a worldwide release on October 15, 2021 via Eclipse Records.

“Aleutian Summer was written while we were killing time before a show in D.C. and this song is actually a special moment for the band in my eyes, as it was one of the first times where we truly collaborated on the writing process as a band” says lead vocalist & guitarist Stephen Burdick. “I started playing the riff, our guitarist Christian joined in with his part, and from there the song wrote itself in a matter of about an hour. Lyrically, I tried to paint a picture of a scene that could be found out of “The Shining” by Stephen King… a dark, brooding atmosphere that only releases tension when the song does at the choruses. The title of the song being ‘Aleutian Summer’ draws on that same Shining influence; as being trapped on a seemingly desolate place such as the Aleutian Islands for a period of time could hypothetically lead to the stir-crazy conditions comparable to those that fueled Jack Torrance’s rampage in the novel. Given the almost ‘retro’ theme of the song, we decided on paying homage to the eras of rock before us with a lo-fi, green screen approach to the video. Very minimal, performance shots only. We felt as though the simple approach would convey the meaning of the song better than any alternative. Paranoid by Black Sabbath anyone?”

The new record, titled South of the Sun, is one of those gems that is familiar somehow, yet takes the listener on a journey mapped out in new pathways. The album’s music invokes the spirits of Frank Zappa and Kurt Cobain while applying their influence upon music which easily falls alongside the likes of Queens of the Stone Age and Alice In Chains. Heavy with a layer of glorious weirdness, this album combines a raucous, dirty guitar sound with clever musicianship … vocals that are as hypnotic in harmony as they are diverse in range, and a rhythm section as daring as it is ornate and, at times, funk-a-licious. With thirteen mesmerizing songs altogether, the singles from the album certainly showcase the wide range of influences upon the band’s writing. For the first single “Witches & Raptures“, the band sings about being trapped in the big picture of the world around us and how servants eventually are consumed by their social masters after they have served their purpose. The second single “Catatonia” is more of an exercise in meditative songwriting designed to just lose the listener in the lyrics which represent such philosophical questions such as ‘who’s out there, what’s there?’.  The third single “Aleutian Summer” can be best described as a scene out of The Shining, going stir-crazy because you’re figuratively trapped in the middle of God knows where. They are soulful songs, and in their own way erotic, both perfect for rock, alternative, stoner, and even metal radio playlists as fuzzy stoner sludge wrapped up in a progressive, pop metal take on the rock genre.
