CROOKED SHAPES Release First Single ‘Fire’ from Forthcoming Debut Album

Brit alt rockers CROOKED SHAPES have premiered the first single, a melodic molotov titled ‘Fire’, from their forthcoming self-titled debut album!

The new song theme is based around anger mis-management and mental health issues. ‘Fire’ is a trip into the mind of someone who has caused a lot of damage but struggles to accept responsibility. Instead of backing down, they are just making things worse. “It’s also quite personal, dealing with anger which is something I’ve struggled with in the past”, admits vocalist/guitarist George Twydell. “In the past I would’ve bottled my anger up until like an unstable volcano it would erupt over something rather minor, although to me it was a combination of everything. Often these eruptions caused a lot of upset. I had to learn to accept responsibility for my actions, which I did, but at the same time I wanted to be understood as well. the line ‘They light the fuse, but I’m to blame’ reflects that”, says Twydell.

Hailing from Reading UK, Crooked Shapes are an alternative melodic hard rock group that fire up the senses with no-nonsense sonics that are sure to go down a storm with rock fans. Taking their cue from British rock n’ blues heritage acts like Free and Bad Company, whilst infusing with influence from grunge rock icons Soundgarden and Alice In Chains, Crooked Shapes add their own flavour with a sound far bigger than what you’d expect from a three piece band! Expect cutting yet melodic vocals and harmonies, with hard hitting guitars, bass, and drums that weave curveball time signatures across the nine tracks featured on the upcoming long player record. More than meets the eye? You bet!

The tracks on the upcoming Crooked Shapes album see the band stepping up to the plate following the release of 2019’s ‘Fallout’ EP. With honest tracks that reflect real human struggles, passion, and lyrical themes that hold weight with their purpose, this album is the first true inward touchpoint for the young Berkshire band. It is a journey of emotion through the sound of music as Crooked Shapes continues to work towards their own authentic, progressive, and potent sound.

New Zealand global metal frontrunners ALIEN WEAPONRY just dropped their highly-anticipated sophomore album, Tangaroa, today via Napalm Records! Tangaroa is a massive next step for the band – encompassing all of the elements that make ALIEN WEAPONRY heavy metal’s most authentic rising stars. 

Following their two hard-hitting recent singles “Tangaroa” and “Buried Underground”, ALIEN WEAPONRY have revealed a third new standout single, “Hatupatu”. Performed entirely in the indigenous language of te reo Māori, the story behind this track is not only legendary in the band’s culture – it’s about one of the de Jong brothers’ ancestors! Journey alongside Hatupatu in the new music video as he escapes the dangerous clutches of the fabled witch of the forest, the evil bird-woman Kurangaituku.

Drummer Henry de Jong says:       
“The story of ‘Hatupatu’ is one Lewis and I grew up with – our father was the first person to tell us as children. Having a family connection with it only made creating a song more intriguing for us. Traditionally, Māori legends were passed down through families by re-telling them, not by having them written down in books. It only makes sense for us to be re-telling this story as our tūpuna (ancestors) did for generations. We cannot wait to share with the rest of the world.”

ALIEN WEAPONRY are poised to dominate with Tangaroa. The album coalesces the band’s growing maturation with an undisturbed songwriting process, resulting in their most inspired, honest and informed material yet. Tangaroa is immersed in important historical accounts and cultural heritage of the Māori people – in addition to lyrics written in te reo Māori, many tracks feature traditional instruments, called taonga puoro, providing the tracks their own warrior-like attitude. Rhythmic, dynamic album opener “Titokowaru” begins with determined rowing chants and depicts the tale of a famous war chief that challenged the colonial government in New Zealand and led a rebel army, backed by quick riffage and driving drums. Following standout “Hatupatu”, inspired by the harrowing, legendary tale of a de Jong ancestor facing off with a witch, is carried by frenzied guitars, spirited chanting and tribal-like percussion. While ALIEN WEAPONRY sourced inspiration from their culture and environmental surroundings while writing most of Tangaroa, the band also looked inward – drawing vision for other portions of the album from within. The album dives into some of their most effecting personal experiences, with English-language songs like the pensive “Unforgiving”.

Aggression Continuum features guitarist, songwriter, and co-founder Dino Cazares; drummer Mike Heller; and former vocalist, lyricist, and co-founder Burton C. Bell. It was produced and engineered by Damien Rainaud (DRAGONFORCE, ONCE HUMAN), with keyboards by Igor Khoroshev (ex-YES), and programming on two songs from longtime collaborator Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY). The album also featured additional keyboards handled by Max Karon and Giuseppe Bassi. Aggression Continuum was mixed by A-list rock and metal producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, TRIVIUM), who also mixed the album’s critically-acclaimed predecessor, Genexus. The artwork for the album was created by Francesco Artusato.

21 years ago, the Swedish Heavy Metal powerhouse HAMMERFALL , travelled to Nashville to record their third album with legendary producer Michael Wagner, leaving the safe space that was Studio Fredman in Göteborg.

Fredrik Nordström had recorded the two previous records, so naturally that was a huge change for the band.

The Wagner experience and the “Renegade” album turned out great, as we all know today.

For this anniversary edition, the band felt that they needed to close the circle and have Fredrik remix the Renegade album. The result is “Renegade 2.0” which will be released via Nuclear Blast Records on November 12th in many beautiful formats and with a brand new album artwork made by famous cover artist Andreas Marshall,  which makes every HAMMERFALL fan heart beats faster, and the pre-order starts today!

Remember Wacken Open Air 2001 when ten thousands of metal heads were roaring along the chorus for “Templars Of Steel”? No? Well, let us refresh your memory with this legendary live footage from just that show A song like a cry for a heavy metal revolution that really caught on to the scene!

To this day, „Templars Of Steel“ is a true highlight of every HAMMERFALL live show and is a track that captures the true essence of the band.

Frontman Joacim Cans remembers: “Oscar and I went down to Gran Canaria to write and finalize some songs for the Renegade album. Somewhere in the constant ”haze” I still remember that Oscar played the riff to the song and it totally blew me away.

Couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into the hymn-like masterpiece and try some vocal ideas in my temporary studio built in the bathroom. This song became the opening track on the upcoming tour and created one of the coolest show openings ever when the draw bridge slowly started to come down during the pulsating intro to the song.”
