WHORES Premiere ‘Have a Drink on Me’ from “Back in Black [Redux]”

On the first single from the forthcoming MER Redux Series installment “Back in Black [Redux]“, Atlanta’s  WHORES are joined by MASTODON co-founder Bill Kelliher for their sludgy, stomping take on the AC/DC cover ‘Have a Drink on Me’.  More information about this album can be found below. Release date: December 3.

The cover track ‘Have a Drink on Me’ is now available via YouTube:

Pre-sale HERE.

Christian Lembach comments: “I grew up listening to AC/DC, like everyone else”, writes the WHORES vocalist and guitarist. “They were one of the first bands I heard that felt like a real rock and roll band, totally divorced from artifice. I still listen to them regularly, and we start every tour with ‘It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)’ because it’s true. AC/DC are one of the most important bands in my life. I was a little concerned with the song that we covered, because it’s very different from our style. We just asked ourselves, ‘What would Harvey Milk do?’. It was pretty easy after that.”

WHORES hail from Atlanta, Georgia and have been classified by music press as a noise rock band. The Americans released two EPs “Ruiner” (2011) and “Clean” (2013) before hitting the world hard with their debut full-length “Gold” in 2016. The trio has extensively toured the US, sharing stages with brothers and sisters in spirit such as MELVINS, DEAFHAVEN, KYLESA, RED FANG, BLACK TUSK, and IRON REAGAN.

Tracklist
1. Hells Bells – RED FANG
2. Shoot to Thrill – HOWLING GIANT feat. Udo Dirkschneider
3. What Do You Do for Money Honey – SUPERSUCKERS
4. Givin the Dog a Bone – SMOKING LIGHTNING
5. Let Me Put My Love into You – HEAVY TEMPLE feat. Valient Himself
6. Back in Black – BESVÄRJELSEN
7. You Shook Me All Night Long – JAKETHEHAWK feat. Patrick Waters
8. Have a Drink on Me – WHORES feat. Bill Kelliher
9. Shake a Leg – EARLY MAN
10. Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution – EARTHRIDE

“Back in Black [Redux]” presents new takes on all ten cuts from AC/DC’s seminal seventh album. This was the first record to feature “new” singer Brian Johnson following the death of original larger-than-life frontman Bon Scott, and music historians agree that there was massive pressure on both the new singer and the band to deliver. Even so, nobody could have anticipated that they’d create one of the most important rock albums ever, and Magnetic Eye cannot wait to present what many favorites from the stoner, doom, and riff-rock scene have done with some of the most iconic rock songs of all time.

Alongside “Back in Black [Redux]”, Magnetic Eye Records publishes a by now traditional companion album containing even more amazing cover versions under the title “Best of AC/DC”. This 2-LP extravaganza features 13 bands offering their exciting renditions of all-time classics and deep cuts from across the AC/DC catalog.  Fielding an array of heavyweights and hungry up-and-comers from the heavy rock underground, there should be no doubt that fans of the riff-heavy will be stoked to experience these massive AC/DC interpretations unlike any that they’ve heard before.

The Magnetic Eye [Redux] Series features hand-picked classic albums from across the history of rock and metal, re-imagined in their entirety from start to finish by bands we love.  Choice artists from throughout the rock and metal world are tasked to select a track to make their own, translating a milestone record into the new millennium with crushing heaviness and searing energy. To date, Magnetic Eye Records have published [Redux] versions of PINK FLYOD’s “The Wall”, HELMET’s “Meantime”, BLACK SABBATH’s “Vol. 4”, HENDRIX’s “Electric Ladyland”, and ALICE IN CHAINS’ “Dirt”, which have included artists like MATT PIKE, PALLBEARER, THE MELVINS, ALL THEM WITCHES, KHEMMIS, ASG, ZAKK WYLDE, MARK LANEGAN, SCOTT REEDER, and many more mind-blowing artists.

Join a host of heavy rocking bands on the sixth foray into Redux territory as they pay due respect to the giant musical legend from Down Under!

LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT and SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA have revealed their new song “Stolen Light”. The song is available to stream and purchase via Bandcamp.

Listen here

“Through the many strange events that have occurred during this pandemic, you could say the friendship between SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA and LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT was an unlikely one, but also to be expected considering their shared musical pasts. After a year of humming and hawing on what to do musically together while throwing sassy comments back and forth at one another on social media, a small idea sparked and turned into the fully symphonic track “Stolen Light ” that you hear today.”

LINDSAY Commented further: “Stolen Light is about taking back your power after enduring a long and grueling abusive relationship. Often verbal and emotional abuse is overlooked compared to physical violence, but the after effects have proven to be equally as fatal in the long run. SARAH and I bonded over our shared struggles we’ve faced in the music industry and this song is an ode to our perseverance, strength, and triumph in taking back our careers and love of singing and creating music.”

Ethereal orchestration provides a delicate and uplifting backdrop for the soaring vocal melodies. “Stolen Light” has a deeply intimate mood exploring the overcoming of personal trials and tribulations.

About LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT and SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA:

LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT is a Juno Nominated, ethereal gothic metal solo artist, harpist and founding member of the chamber black metal band ANTIQVA. SARAH JEZEBEL DEVA is the haunting, dynamic vocalist of TORN BETWEEN TWO WORLDS, and previously performed with the likes of MORTIIS, THERION, ANGTORIA, & NADER SADEK.

THEODOR BASTARD + ÁRSTÍÐIR Win Big at The John Lennon Songwriting Contest – 2021

Russian neofolk collective THEODOR BASTARD were selected as a finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest 2021 (Session I) for the song “Volchuk,” which is taken from ‘Volch‘ya Yagoda,’ which was originally released in 2019 and is currently being reissued by Season of Mist. In the same category, enigmatic Icelandic rock outfit of ÁRSTÍÐIR were the grand prize winner for the song ‘Heiðin,’ taken from their self-titled record that was released in 2009. More information on the contest can be found HERE.

THEODOR BASTARD comments, “Friends, thank you! It was unexpected and pleasant news to find out that our group from distant Russia, from the Karelian forests, won this wonderful competition named after John Lennon. It’s really something- something incredible. We have always known that music unites. Our song is an interpretation of the ancient Slavic folk lullaby ‘about a gray wolf,’ which was sung mothers to children in distant villages a thousand years ago. And the fact that this song, in our interpretation and with our music, reached the hearts of people on the other side of the world, says only one thing: music unites all of us. We are all one. We are the people of the earth. And love will save the world! Thank you, friends, we hug you!”

Adds ÁRSTÍÐIR, “We are absolutely thrilled and honored to be receiving this prestigious award in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Tonight we’re going to celebrate knowing that our childhood heroes Flea and Lita Ford have listened to our music and liked it!”

Moreover, THEODOR BASTARD recently released a breathtaking acoustic performance for the song “Budem Zhit,” in which Yana Veva and Ekaterina Dolmatova sing along with the the accompaniment of the gusli. The video can be seen at THIS LOCATION.

THEODOR BASTARD‘s full catalog can be streamed HERE while the album ‘Volch’ya Yagoda’ is available HERE.

Following their much-acclaimed 2019 album, Prokopton, November 19th will see Toulouse based symphonic melodic death metal force AEPHANEMER return with their third and thunderous full-length record, A Dream Of Wilderness, via Napalm Records!

Starting out as an unbelievably successful DIY ride that suddenly turned towards international acclaim, the indisputable AEPHANEMER is one of the most exciting melodic death metal sensations of the modern age. Fast-paced metal fronted by the guttural growls and fierce screams of extraordinary vocalist Marion Bascoul meet flickering twin leads, elements of Scandinavian death metal, Slavic traditional music and epic synths. If Prokopton was a noteworthy, impressive sophomore album from one of Europe’s best up and coming melodic death metal bands yet, A Dream Of Wilderness sees the French four-piece doubling down on its songwriting skills: Faster, tighter and heavier,  AEPHANEMER’s upcoming album unleashes an anthemic adventure of brutally fast riffage and epic melodies!

As today’s first single release proves, A Dream Of Wilderness promises to be an exciting and refreshing mixture of metallic elements that are both technically superior and emotively rousing. “Panta Rhei” showcases the band’s ability to combine blistering, speedy riffs with a thrilling symphonic sound that takes you on a journey right into a melodic death metal fairy tale. Get a first taste and watch their brand new video clip for “Panta Rhei” here:

Says the band: “We are more than happy to finally unveil our new song and video: Panta Rhei! We are very excited as it is the very first glimpse at our new album, A Dream of Wilderness, to be released on November 19th, 2021 through Napalm Records! We hope you will like it!”

AEPHANEMER doesn’t seem to fear boundaries. Their new album delivers a wide metal range that represents a dark and gloomier yet no less powerful side of the band, while otherworldly dimensions of blast beats, furious riffage and heavy, razor-sharp death metal anthems will have you headbanging as fast as you can. Especially in this day and age of staying “true” and limited within a sound and scene, A Dream Of Wilderness is a welcome diversion and a brave record artfully blending brutally fast symphonic death and raw melodic metal into a multi-faceted epic!

The record was mixed by Dan Swanö at Unisound AB, and mastered by Mika Jussila at the Finnvox Studios. A Dream Of Wilderness will be out on November 19, 2021 via Napalm Records, and available as LP Gatefold, CD and Digital formats. Pre-order your copy HERE!

  1. Land of Hope
  2. Antigone

STENGAH Release Debut Single + Video ‘Above Inhumanity’

STENGAH have released their debut single and video ‘Above Inhumanity’ via Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group. Stream / pre-order here: https://smarturl.it/Stengah

With the world in chaos, exhilarating new music has become more important than ever before. As a result, the emergence of tech-metal mavericks STENGAH could hardly be better timed. One of the most exciting new bands on the planet, the French quintet have spent the last few years in a state of perpetual evolution, armed with some of the most visceral and forward-thinking riffs and refrains in recent memory.

Both thrillingly primal and ferociously intelligent, this is music that aspires to enlighten and brutalise in equal measure.  Talking about the song they say, “Above Inhumanity is a gloomy reverie, a suspended time, where you reach what’s beyond the irrational.  A tired mind abandoned to madness, vision and wisdom reduced to the merest fears, struggling with the darkest version of yourself.”

The video for “Above Inhumanity” acts out the story of a young woman haunted by the childish depiction of a ghost – herself in a parallel dimension. Trapped in a time loop, she awakes again to find a filmstrip containing a disturbing video of a ghost following her. The video projector turns out to be a gateway between both realms. The foreboding tale sees her awake where everything appears as it really is…

They add, “It’s a dreamlike narrative that makes spiritual and physical realms collapse. A story where a hunter may be a prey, and the prey a monster…”

Founded by drummer Eliott Williame, STENGAH have the sound, the smarts and the ambition to push heavy music ever further into the future. After years of steady evolution and meticulous attention to detail, the band – completed by bassist Benoit Creteur, lead guitarist Maxime Delassus, rhythm guitarist Alexis Dewasch and powerhouse frontman Nicolas Queste – have honed their sound to a state of cutting-edge perfection.

“The music is about (re)connecting with yourself,” says Eliott. “It’s about people, their fears, their faiths and their philosophies. How sometimes those things can guide them, and how sometimes they can blind them. It asks, with no judgement, about how odd and how strange the social and emotional behaviours of human beings are. It’s all about the power to believe, in creativity, and in consciousness.”

STENGAH bring riffs that speak of unstoppable momentum and insidious hooks that will penetrate your heart and your head. “Above Inhumanity” is just the beginning.

COMEBACK KID Release New Song + Video “No Easy Way Out”

One of the biggest names in modern hardcore, COMEBACK KID have released the fast paced, riff-heavy banger “No Easy Way Out”. The track, which was recorded in Winnipeg, MB at Private Ear Recording studio, is the first new original music to be heard from the influential hardcore/punk outfit since their 2017 release Outsider. Listen to “No Easy Way Out” HERE.

“This was an attempt to conjure up an edge of your seat rhythm that stays the course but builds intensity the whole way through until the end,” said lead vocalist Andrew Neufeld. “The feeling of looking over your shoulder and running for dear life. This is a stomper hardcore tune with a pummeling pace. When you’re pushed in a corner, there’s no easy way out!”

Accompanying the single is an age-restricted music video conceptualized and directed by Kevin Keegan. Amplifying the tracks feeling of needing to escape but also running into the realization that that may be harder than what it seems, the video for “No Easy Way Out” is a captivating comedic mini-thriller that sees the band being chased by a psycho kidnapper in a forest in Western Canada.
