BOUND IN FEAR Release Harrowing New Single ‘Beyond The Mire’

UK deathcore quintet BOUND IN FEAR have released new single / video ‘Beyond The Mire’, the third taken from their upcoming sophomore album, Penance, out 15th October via Unique Leader Records.

Shot by Gaz Davies and showcasing the band’s bleak vision, watch the video to ‘Beyond The Mire’ here:

‘Beyond The Mire’ represents a recurring nightmare that becomes harder and harder to distinguish from reality. The song’s lyrics explore the possibility that a nightmare could haunt you in your waking state, not just when you are asleep.

Guitarist Ben Sutherland comments: “The line between conscious and unconscious is something that is a great thing to explore in dark and heavy music. In this track we tread the tracks between thoughts that plague us in our waking hours, and how they manifest in our nightmares. The lyric ‘save me from insanity, is this my reality’ represents this troubling duality.”

THE AGONIST To Release Brand New EP “Days Before The World Wept” on October 15th

Canadian extreme melodic death metal juggernaut THE AGONIST took the world by storm with the release of their bludgeoning 2019 full-length, Orphans – garnering fantastic critical acclaim and even a revered Juno nomination. With that undeniable skill in tow, THE AGONIST takes another bold step in their musical and lyrical progression with Days Before The World Wept, a brand new EP out October 15, 2021 via Napalm Records!

Inspired by real life experiences, Days Before The World Wept explores a grim, conceptual tale of greed, gluttony, confusion, pain, redemption and hope enveloped in a new level of aggression and cohesive, technical prowess.

Get a taste of the band’s newest music today by watching the music video for brand new single, “Remnants In Time”! The death metal burner brings non-stop energy throughout, showcasing Psarakis’ multifaceted vocal attack as she nails searing highs, guttural lows and magical clean passages. Just like the track itself, its haunting, conceptual music video’s imagery blends emotive and eerie imagery throughout.

Frontwoman Vicky Psarakis says about “Remnants In Time” and its stunning video:
“‘Remnants in Time’ is the first chapter in this story. It marks the final moments of a person’s life and the journey that begins right after.

We wanted the visuals to strongly reflect the lyrics and the concept behind them, and transforming me into a demon was key in that. I’m a huge fan of horror/sci-fi and makeup transformations, so working with a professional makeup artist and the use of prosthetics was the coolest part for me!

This song – and video – is all about extremes. Angelic and demonic, fragile and strong, delicate and aggressive. It embodies a lot of what THE AGONIST is about.”

Produced by Christian Donaldson (Beyond Creation, Cryptopsy, Despised Icon), Days Before The World Wept packs several albums worth of skill, songwriting prowess and melancholic lyrical mastery into just five tracks – leaving no stone unturned!

Opening track “Remnants In Time” begins ominously with ghostly piano lines performed by lead vocalist Vicky Psarakis before slamming into a double bass, one-woman choir explosion rife with needle-precision guitar work by deft guitarists Danny Marino and Pascal Jobin. The death metal burner brings non-stop energy throughout, showcasing Psarakis’ multifaceted vocal attack as she nails searing highs, guttural lows and magical clean passages in one fell swoop. The onslaught continues with the rhythmic soundscapes of cry for salvation “Immaculate Deception”, blending fast paced, aggressive verses with haunting, melodic choruses. “Resurrection” reaches into blackened territory before Psarakis splits it wide open – annihilating with her pinpointed vocal attack calling for rebirth. In addition to Psarakis, Marino and Jobin, dexterous drums from Simon McKay and the bass attack of Chris Kells lead the listener through metallic melodic passages topped with emotive poetry before breaking into the next track, “Feast On The Living”. It stands tall with rollercoaster clean and gritty vocals, rapid fire drums and blazingly precise guitar leads and solos, cementing the track as one of the most technically meticulous of the entire offering. Shifting into fifth gear, title track “Days Before The World Wept” brings it all home, beginning with a beckoning acoustic introduction before roaring in with intense blastbeats, polyrhythms and bellowing screams. THE AGONIST pulls out all the stops, showcasing their chops in all directions with breakneck instrumentation and staggeringly superb vocal approaches. Soaring through a kaleidoscope of blistering metal mastery and hopeful lyrical dramatism, the opus dominates as one of the most impressive works of the band’s catalog.

Psarakis adds about Days Before The World Wept:
“There’s a lot I could say about this EP and its importance to the band, but does it matter? Obviously, this is the part where I tell you these are the best songs we’ve put out to date. Honestly – it’s a journey. You’re either gonna reach the end and want to relive it or you’re not… and that’s okay. Let the music speak for itself.”

Iranian/Norwegian CONFESS Unveil New Single “Megalodon”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 9, 2021
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Confess. Leave a comment

The latest single from Iranian metal band CONFESS is an anthem of long-awaited retribution. “Megalodon” started simmering in the mind of frontman Nikan Khosravi as a result of his imprisonment by the Iranian government. The down-tuned groove and ravaged vocals bring 90s acts like Korn to mind. But there’s also a modern death metal sound that introduces us to the band’s new direction.

The song was written and recorded in Norway, soon after the founding members earned refugee status. Mastered by Grammy-nominated producer Machine (Lamb of God, Suicide Silence, Miss May I, and many others). “Megalodon” describes the need for justice in the mind of a political prisoner. Being locked up in jail and released on bail, forced to live in obscurity. “Many people think you’re gone, and you don’t exist anymore, and it makes them happy!”, Khosravi explains.

But the beast observes and waits for its day of reckoning. “Like Megalodon, an ancient creature that everyone thinks they are extinct. But there are rumors that they still exist and live in the depth of the ocean.” he continues. When you least expect it the monster can resurface and eat up any massive animal, just to disappear again.

The track is Khosravi’s first experiment with 7 strings. It’s also the band’s first production in the Scandinavian winter. “To me, it has a vibe that reminds me of the environment I live in.”

Confess describe themselves as a “five-piece street protest”. Khosravi and Arash Ilkhani (DJ / Sampler) faced arrest and prison in Tehran, following the release of the band’s second album in 2015. Both musicians obtained refugee status in Norway in 2018 and have been playing across the country. They recently opened for Mayhem at Festspillene i Nord.

“Megalodon” will be released on September 10th 2021 via Rexius Records. The single is part of the band’s upcoming album “Revenge at All Costs” which is due for release in early 2022.

SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE Premiere Cover Of Metallica’s “Wherever I May Roam” Feat. Arabic Orchestra

Israeli progressive metal outfit SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE presents a magnificent cover of Metallica’s “Wherever I May Roam,” which sees the band joined by an Arabic orchestra! The track makes its public debut through a premiere hosted by Metal Injection.

SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE recorded the cover of “Wherever I May Roam” with the intent of paying homage to one of their favorite acts, with the song seeing release in conjunction with the thirty-year-anniversary of Metallica’s eponymous LP, also known as “the black album.” Joining the massive seven-member SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE lineup, a full orchestra lineup of regional traditional/ethnic musicians performs on the song, creating incredibly dynamic and epic Middle Eastern textures and tones.

Lead vocalist Davidavi Dolev reveals, “We love Metallica for two main reasons. One of them is simply their life changing music, but the other reason is much more important; through its entire career, Metallica took risks, and we love risks! So, we took a big sip from a chalice full of courage, brought to our studios a chamber Middle Eastern orchestra and interpreted the song ‘Wherever I May Roam’ our way. The lyrics are exactly what SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE is about. We did our best to approach this classic as if it is the holiest of holies and we really hope open minded people will enjoy our version of the story this incredible song tells. Thanks Metallica! Because of you we are musicians now; our mothers don’t like it one bit!”

Metal Injection writes with their premiere, “SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE‘s cover of Metallica’s ‘Wherever I May Roam’ isn’t included on the latter’s Metallica Blacklist covers album, but it really should be. The cover takes the original’s Middle Eastern tones and cranks them up to 11, and then of course brings the heaviness alongside it all.”

Tune in and listen to SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE’s cover of “Wherever I May Roam” first only through Metal Injection now at THIS LOCATION.

SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE released their fourth LP, Mountain Fever, through American prog powerhouse Sensory Records in May, the album boasting ten new songs which continue to push the balance between pioneering experimentalism to their own take on modern pop culture and its manifestation in the Middle East. With nearly an hour of engaging music, revealing an album composed of African and Balkan brass sections, Arabic violins, extended vocal techniques, and several special guest appearances, the band explores radio friendly hooks that emerge out of heavy riffs and polychromatic arrangements.

Mountain Fever was recorded in Golan Heights, Israel with engineer David Castillo, after which it was sent to Fascination Street in Örebro, Sweden (Leprous, Katatonia, Opeth) where it was mixed by Jens Bogren and mastered by Tony Lindgren, then completed with artwork and layout by Costin Chioreanu of Twilight 13 Media. The record features several notable guest contributions, including drums from Matan Shmuely (Orphaned Land), bouzouki and lead guitars on “Mångata” by Idan Amsalem (Orphaned Land), and vocals on “Somewhere I Sadly Belong” by Melechesh Ashmedi (Melechesh) and Jackie Hole (The Super Things).

Find Mountain Fever on CD and 2xLP cut at 45rpm HERE, the standard digital HERE, the Hi-Rez 24 Bit digital HERE, and through all digital streaming services.

Having carefully returned to performing live across the Middle East and Europe over the Spring and Summer at multiple notable festivals and more, SUBTERRANEAN MASQUERADE continues to book select new live ventures for the weeks and months ahead. SONATA ARCTICA Reveal Postponed Tour Dates + “Acoustic Adventures – Volume One” for 2022

Finnish melodic metal titans SONATA ARCTICA are a band with a unique sound, driven by different emotions and a touch of melancholy. Today, the band announces the new release date of their first acoustic album, perfectly entitled “Acoustic Adventures – Volume One”, to be released on January, 21st 2022. Also the panned acoustic tour had to be postoned into next year and will start in October 2022.

“Despite of the circumstances slowly getting better, we will unfortunately have to postpone our “Acoustic Adventures European Tour” that was supposed to happen this fall. This is not a light decision by any means but right now we cannot go forward with the tour as planned. However we will be back in 2022, postponed doesn’t mean canceled. Our “Acoustic Adventures Vol. One” album will also be released a few months later than orginally planned but rest assured, it will be worth the wait. We’re really looking forward to getting out there again and play for you all, rather sooner than later. Meanwhile, take care”, says keyboard player Henrik “Henkka” Klingenberg.

“This acoustic form of SONATA ARCTICA has been slowly brewing for years”, comments vocalist Tony Kakko and explains: “The first manifestation of it, besides the few acoustic versions of songs released throughout the years, was the “Acoustic Adventures Tour” in 2019, which proved to be a great success, sparking an idea to get these songs also recorded and out on an album. Or two albums, at least for starters. Our songs have always been based on beautiful melodies, which makes it very easy to transform and rearrange them perfectly into the acoustic form as well. I should mention that many of the songs work so well dressed in acoustic garments.”

“Acoustic Adventures – Volume One” will be the first part, followed by a second acoustic record, to be released in October 2022. “I hope you love these albums as much as we do. There are many, many songs we had to leave out of these ”Volume One” and ”Volume Two” albums, so nothing would please me more than adding few more volumes in the future”, says vocalist Tony Kakko.

The postponed tour is going to happen in autumn 2022 now, entitled the “Acoustic Adventures MMXXII” tour. To promote both “Acoustic Adventures” releases, the band will embark on a journey through 17 European countries! Support will be provided by Swedish hopefuls ELEINE, who will also be presenting an acoustic set.
