One of the modern eras greatest supergroup’s BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION – the Anglo-American rock group comprising vocalist/bassist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Trapeze), drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin, Foreigner), Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Alice Cooper, Billy Idol) and blues-rock guitarist/vocalist Joe Bonamassa – will be releasing a series of glow in the dark vinyl reissues later this year.

Black Country Communion and Black Country Communion 2 will be released on exclusive glow in the dark vinyl on 24th September and BCCIV will be released on 22nd October via Mascot Records / Mascot Label Group. You can pre-order them here

The band was the brainchild of producer Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin). Black Country Communion initially came to fruition when Kevin Shirley saw Glenn Hughes and Joe Bonamassa join forces on stage in Los Angeles in November 2009 for an explosive performance at Guitar Center’s King of the Blues event.

The bands’ debut album Black Country Communion was released in 2010 and was a top 20 hit in the UK, Germany and in the US Top Rock Album charts. It was a critical smash with Classic Rock described it as “Possibly the best hard rock album of 2010,” while MOJO awarded it 4 stars. Music Radar hailed the disc as “a potent and stomping collection of riff-heavy rockers that will undoubtedly stun listeners.” It was voted #3 in Classic Rock’s “Critics Album of the Year” poll, and listeners of Planet Rock crowned BCC as the Best New Band of 2010.

Black Country Communion 2 followed a year later and once again was a Top 20 hit across Europe and reached #6 in the US Hard Rock album chart and saw the band embark on their first tour across Europe and the US. They also won the Best Breakthrough Act at the Classic Rock Awards the same year.

BCCIV was released in 2017 and proved that classic rock is alive and well and in good hands in the 21st century. At the time Glenn Hughes said, “All four of us wanted to make a record that stood up to the first three albums, however, the new album is more of a progression, as we wanted to be careful not to repeat the previous albums. The new album shows BCC with a much harder, riffier and bigger and bolder sound.  If you’re looking for a folk album, this ain’t the one.”

The album spawned the songs “Collide,” “Wanderlust” and the epic “Last Song For My Resting Place.” Once again it was a chart hit reaching the Top 20 across Europe including #7 in the UK plus #4 in the US Top Hard Rock Album chart.

Taking their name from the industrial area in Britain, and the birthplace of both Hughes and Bonham, Black Country Communion unleash their brand of take-no-prisoners hard rock to a world thirsting for music with substance.  BCC has cultivated a reputation not only as amazing songwriters, but as a powerful live act, is only exceeded by their dedication to their craft, and a willingness to challenge and motivate each other to make the best music they can.

GAMA BOMB Return with Anti-Nuclear Weapons Single ‘Thunder Over London’

Irish thrashers, GAMA BOMB are today premiering their new single, Thunder Over London, and it’s accompanying music video via YouTube. Thunder Over London is the title track from their surprise release three-song digital EP, due out tomorrow (August 6), and sees the band pivot back to their more political roots as they rally against nuclear arms. The music video alternates between the band performing, with beloved band mascot Snowy on drums, and key statistics and thought provoking information on nuclear weapons.

Speaking on the surprise EP release, Philly Byrne (vocals) comments: “This EP was born out of the sessions for our last album Sea Savage – two of the tracks were meant for the album but had their own vibe, so felt better somewhere else; the last track we couldn’t find a lyric idea for – maybe I was burnt out – but it later became Thunder Over London.”

On the title track, Philly adds: “It’s a song about the waste and evil of nuclear weapons, talking about the history of punishing your enemy’s civilians with aerial bombing, leading us to a world where thousands of nukes are ready to launch any second, but nobody writes songs about it any more. We want people to wake up and get angry about that.”

Thunder Over London tracklist:

  1. Thunder Over London
  2. Reveal The Shrieking Skulls
  3. Shut Up and Shout

Having unfortunately cancelled a September run alongside Exhorder due to coronavirus concerns, this November GAMA BOMB will be heading out on an eight day headlining tour in UK / Ireland. The tour will get underway on November 6, with GAMA BOMB performing at Damnation Festival, and run until November 13. The headlining shows, alongside support from Shrapnel, will serve as their first set of UK and Ireland live shows since the release of their latest album, Sea Savage, in December 2020.

GAMA BOMB November tour dates (w/ Shrapnel)
6 November – Damnation Festival, Leeds*
7 November – The Underworld, London
8 November – The Brickmakers, Norwich
9 November – Star & Garter, Manchester
10 November – Asylum 2, Birmingham

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM Release Official Video for New Song “Primal Chasm (Gift of Fire)”

Two decades into their journey as ritualistic black metal conjurers, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have emerged from the forest with “Primordial Arcana”, their most majestic album to date, and their first release via Century Media Records (outside of USA and Canada) and Relapse Records (USA and Canada) out August 20th.

In the visuals WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are taking us on a journey through Cascadia, a bioregion that has been highly influential for the band’s aesthetics and sound. From the forests in “Mountain Magick” and rivers and streams in “Spirit of Lightning” we are following them to the ocean in their latest video for “Primal Chasm (Gift of Fire)”:

The band comments: “’Primal Chasm (Gift of Fire)’ is an explosion of cosmic grandeur, a symphonic rendering of the hermetic maxim As above, so below. The lyrics are a dreamtime retelling of creation. The act of the universe creating itself comes from the same impulse—it all springs from the same source, the same union of fire and ice. It’s the interplay between polarized opposites, and it’s from their contradiction and chaos that life happens and music and the planets are created.”

“Primordial Arcana” is the band’s first completely self-contained work: In addition to composition and performance, brothers Aaron and Nathan Weaver alongside guitarist Kody Keyworth handled all aspects of recording, producing and mixing at their own Owl Lodge Studios in the woods of Washington state.

First preorders are up under the following link: https://wolvesinthethroneroom.lnk.to/PrimordialArcana

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM’s new album title “Primordial Arcana” is a reference to the band’s ongoing reach back to the most ancient, archetypal energies.

Leadoff track “Mountain Magick” sets the august tone with alpine guitar melodies cresting skyward in triumph.  “Spirit of Lightning” returns briefly to the earthly plane as a tribute to the human connections forged in music. Meanwhile, “Primal Chasm (Gift of Fire)” is an explosion of cosmic grandeur, a symphonic rendering of the hermetic maxim “as above, so below” as envisioned by Keyworth. In fact, Primordial Arcana is the first WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM record in which Kody was a part of the writing process from the start, so it benefits from his background in cosmic funeral doom.

Always uncompromising, “Primordial Arcana” sees WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM stay true to their unique vision. An album born out of the DIY ethos, “Primordial Arcana” proves to be the band’s most genuine and focused. One of the year’s most ambitious recordings, “Primordial Arcana” cements WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM’s legacy as one of US Black Metal’s most daring, unique, and quintessential bands.

Archspire’s JUNO-Nominated (Canadian Grammy) 2017 Relentless Mutation was a cavalcade of speed and extremity — blasting, accelerating and, in partial reference to its title, “mutating” as each song unfolded, all the while rapid-fire, shotgun vocals blurred the lines between a man’s throat and additional instrument. It was, unquestionably, an innovation of sound and technique — Archspire had broken the speed barrier while creating songs memorable as they were unabashedly extreme for extreme metal. Thus, the pressure was already there to top Relentless Mutation when the band started to compile new songs in 2018. The global pandemic heightened the situation (read: no touring, expanded free time) and caused Archspire to turn inward and apply additional rigor to their songwriting process, albeit painstakingly so. But by the end of the fraught calendar year that was 2020, the band emerged with their fourth studio album, Bleed the Future.

According to the members of Archspire — vocalist Oli Aleron, guitarists Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli, bassist Jared Smith and drummer Spencer Prewett — they originally went into the making of Bleed the Future under the idea they would finish the album in between the various tours scheduled for 2020. Of course, none of that happened, prompting the band to do more pre-production than at any time in their career. Archspire then subjected the album’s eight songs to near-constant critiquing that ensured they came away with a product, that in their estimation, is their best to date.

“The benefit we had was that Relentless came out in 2017,” says Lamb. “Since then, we toured more than we ever did before. We had the viewpoint of ‘What do crowds like? What parts should we write more of? What parts do people give us good feedback on?’ We wanted to expand and write those parts more consistently — there are more hooks and when we do have hooks, we wanted to repeat those parts so people will know that this is the catchy part of the song.”

“The most important thing was that we had clever songwriting,” adds Prewett. “We wanted the album to be more accessible to more people but still keep it extreme, fast and technical. So, we changed our process this time. We recorded rehearsal every day and listened to what we did afterward. We’d then come back to the jam spot and change riffs and ideas based on what everyone was thinking about during the week. It resulted in an album that everyone was happier with.”

Archspire also had the stated goal for Bleed the Future that they wanted to get faster. While such a feat may defy reason given their previous output, the band wrote their fastest song to date — the album-closing “A.U.M.,” a cut that opens up with an audio recording of a German friend of Prewett’s who, according to the drummer, enjoys ragging on Archspire. Comedic clips aside, “A.U.M.,” caps off an album that pushes the boundaries of speed but also is textured — Smith’s ethereal basslines often serve as mid-song interludes, while Lamb and Morelli weave melodic, spiraling guitar lines that annihilate the fretboard during “Abandon the Linear,” “Bleed the Future” and “Acrid Canon.” Accordingly, the members of Archspire were keenly aware of the expectations placed upon them after the success of Relentless Mutation. The online comments regarding whether they could top

Relentless Mutation was also occasionally on their minds when composing Bleed the Future and prompted the band to ensure that all five members were happy with everything — down to the last riff, vocal line, bass run and drum pattern. “Audience expectation is really important,” says Lamb. “If we leave the jam spot and everyone is stoked on a song, it’s pretty likely that the audience will be stoked. We have the expectation of the audience but we also have to be pumped on the music. I feel the proudest of the music. We spent more time on the songs and got better at writing. I feel it’s better music.”

“It’s an extremely tedious writing process,” adds Smith. “If anyone isn’t feeling a riff, we scrap it and have to find something we’re all happy with. It can be super-frustrating in the moment, but in the end, we have something better. We want everything we write to be a step up and I think we achieved that with Bleed the Future.”

The album is accompanied by a concept developed by Aleron that begs the question: What happens when humans start giving birth to non-humans? Born from a weird dream the vocalist had, Bleed the Future’s concept does not have finality or a conclusion. It does, however, posit a few ethical dilemmas to ties into Archspire’s long-running science fiction themes.

“I thought about what if those things they were giving birth to could actually benefit them in the future so they wouldn’t want to reject them,” says Aleron. “What would happen to the humans that weren’t born? Would they go to a different dimension? I played with that whole idea because I hadn’t seen a horror movie where that was the theme. It worked for all the songs. The only social commentary is that people don’t know what they’re giving birth to — if you put someone on this planet, you don’t know whether they’re going to be good or evil.”

Bleed the Future was recorded in October and November 2020 at Flatline Audio in Colorado with producer/engineer Dave Otero. This was the second consecutive album the band worked with Otero. According to Morelli, the recording process was seamless. “Dave was already familiar with what we each can do individually,” he says. “This time, he was more prepared to tackle those elements. How he tracks was more focused on what we were capable of and I think it really shows here.”

As live show activity for 2021 hangs in the balance (Archspire currently has dates lined up for November), the pandemic has prompted many bands to re-think their new album release dates as well as how to stay visible in a world currently without touring. But, with a fanbase that has embraced the band’s online presence that includes playthroughs, tutorials and now, cooking shows (!), Archspire heads into the Bleed the Future album cycle the benefactors of their commitment to touring and, most of all, position as one of death metal’s most forward-thinking bands.

“We have a lot of awesome fans, so I think they’ll be there to support us and pick up the album because they like the music,” says Lamb. “We’re a self-managed band; we’ve been working with the same label for ten years and I think the outcome will be good. Would it had been better if we had been on a full North American tour starting a week before the album release? Sure, but I think people will come out and support us through other means. As soon as we’re ready to go back on tour and everybody is safe to do so, we’ll be out there.”

STRAYTONES Premiere Brand New Song + Video ‘Oh Sweet Seeds’ From Upcoming Album

Ukrainian psych, surf and garage rock trio STRAYTONES, who is set to unleash their fourth album, Magic Green River Swimmin’ & Stunning Tarzanka Experience, on August 27th through Robustfellow, have just premiered another hot, new single!

Following their latest, critically acclaimed EP Beware, Dark Lord! Here comes Bell-Man! (2019) and countless live shows with acts such as Somali Yacht Club or Stoned Jesus, on their new full- length record the up & coming, Kyiv- based band will delight rock fans with their vibrant blend of garage, psychedelic and surf rock. Imbued with the spirit of 60’s garage rockers and hippies, and heavily influenced by modern neo-psychedelic vibes, Straytones may recall associations with The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Night Beats, Wand, Ty Segall, Fuzz or Oh Sees, but add a very own and refreshing touch to their distinctive, groovy sound.

Their new LP, Magic Green River Swimmin’ & Stunning Tarzanka Experience, significantly demonstrates the growth of the band in the realms of psych and garage rock. The genre grasp has truly increased, but the mood and the vibe of the sound is still sunny and familiar, thus Straytones are one of those bands you need to check out!

After STRAYTONES just recently shared a first album appetizer ( Listen to the track “Super Hot” HERE ), they now premiered a new single and lyric video for “Oh Sweet Seeds”. Says the band:
“This warm tune is about reasons and blocks we artificially create inside ourselves, that actually prevent us from feeling good and joyful. It’s also a kind reminder that we are the smiths of our own happiness, so that we can change our perspectives in order to feel life itself and live it to the fullest.

The video to this song is a declaration of love to our city and to the wide river called Dnipro. In summertime it sometimes turns green and attracts with it’s magic. It’s all about hanging on the beach, catamaran riding, tarzanka jumping and freedom in all dimensions.”

Watch the new STRAYTONES video, that will get you in the perfect summer mood, right here:

“Our new album carries on a lot of stories and replete with a variety of colors, but we believe all of them perfectly fit into the Kyiv summer entourage.“ The band commented earlier.

“The title is a play on words taken from famous rock albums and songs which were put together in a way to make a jocular and genuine mood of the album and to highlight the artwork. And the artwork captures a typical picture of Kyiv summer, which sticks in the memory since childhood, and worth mentioning – not much has changed since then! You can see a granny with naughty grandchildren, an old fisherman with his little boy, catamarans, clumsy home-made pie seller, boys from the hood with beer, tents, barbeque, reeds and canes, frogs, rope-jumps (we call it tarzanka-jumping), and more of what you can see on the bank of Dnipro river at summertime. These memories carry a warm tinge of carelessness, and we really wanted to express this mood with music and the artwork, and we think we did it just fine! Of course, not all these songs are about summer carelessness, but all they take their deserved place on the record. When we wrote these songs, recorded them, created an arrangement, mixed and mastered the records – we gave it 100%! Also, we wanted to mention that the album was recorded with Marina, our ex-drummer, and she’s put a lot of effort and talent into creating it. Currently, she’s not a part of Straytones anymore, and our beloved Eugenia took her place.”

Magic Green River Swimmin’ & Stunning Tarzanka Experience will be released as CD, Tape and Digital formats on August 27, 2021 via Robustfellow, make sure to check out their store at THIS LOCATION!

Album Tracklist:
