British prog metal mainstays THRESHOLD have entered Thin Ice Studios in Surrey, England to record the follow up to their critically acclaimed 2017 album ‘Legends Of The Shires’.

Guitarist Karl Groom comments: “After not seeing the rest of the band for the longest time I can recall, it’s great to be spending time together making music again. A new THRESHOLD album is always special for the band, but this will mean a lot after recent events.”

Following the release of ‘Legends Of The Shires’, THRESHOLD toured the album across 18 different countries before their touring plans were put to a halt by the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Legends Of The Shires’ saw the return of vocalist Glynn Morgan, for the first time since the band’s 1994 record ‘Psychedelicatessen’. In regards to rejoining the band, and recording the follow up to ‘Legends…’, Glynn explains: “It’s an absolute buzz meeting up with the guys again and totally exciting to be getting going again. The whole ‘Legends’ journey was just so cool and it was awesome to be part of it, I just can’t wait to do it again!”

All of the songs for the new album have now been written and arranged, and the band are currently in the process of tracking their final performances.

Keyboard player Richard West concludes: “It’s all coming together beautifully and sounding better than ever. If ‘Legends Of The Shires’ had a slightly darker, moodier older brother then this would be it.”

THRESHOLD‘s as yet untitled new album will be released via Nuclear Blast Records in the first half of 2022.

Texas’ electronic rockers CEDARS released their new album “Cowards” on June 11th, via Gruene Records. Today the band has revealed a teaser for their next video ‘Formerly Known‘, coming out on July 12th.

The band on ‘Formerly Known’:
“‘Formerly Known’ is a story of escape and redemption. Making this video was a way to reclaim pain and transmute it into something powerful. Drawing from past experiences, the Formerly Known video was crafted to create a conversation about something that’s happening every moment around the globe, but no one wants to talk about. Watch the full video 7.12.21.”

Just recently the band revealed the concept of the “Cowards” album:
“Cowards, at its core, is an album about choosing yourself, even in the face of great consequences. So often we find ourselves in situations or systems that ask us to minimize ourselves or our desires or even our needs, but there comes a point where we have to make some really tough choices: do we continue to support the system that is crushing us and building itself on our backs, or do we honour our own still, small voice?
The album is the story of finding ourselves in a season of life where those choices were very pressing, and very loud, with very real consequences. There are times when death is necessary to make room for the new, the better, and sometimes the knife is in our own hands. The album, though full of heavy moments, is also woven with bright strands of hope and light, the kind that can only come after great loss and struggle. How quietly we go to war.”

CEDARS is an electronic rock band from central Texas whose music incorporates the DIY ethos of bands like The Pixies and PJ Harvey, the haunting atmospheres of Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, and the infectious grooves of MuteMath. CEDARS is more than just a band: it’s is a vision of community, a community driven by the idea that beauty can save the world. Led by longtime friends Sandeigh Kennedy and Drew Heaton, they blend industrial and organic textures, drawing together disparate elements to marry complex sonic landscapes with compelling stories. Gritty synths and wispy vocals; hard hitting beats and delicate textures are the tools they use to tell powerful, authentic stories that explore truth and beauty.

LEPROUS Launch First Single/Video ‘Running Low’ From Upcoming Album

Norwegian Rock outfit LEPROUS have released the video for “Running Low”, the new single off their upcoming studio album “Aphelion”, out August 27th, 2021 worldwide via InsideOutMusic.

Check out the album’s opening track “Running Low” in a video clip directed by Troll Toftenes HERE

LEPROUS vocalist/keyboardist Einar Solberg commented about “Running Low” as follows:
“The initial idea for “Running Low” started when I had decided to force myself to write a sketch on my phone on a way up to a mountain top called “Himingen” in Telemark, Norway. It felt completely pointless while I was doing it, but when I came back, I was able to go further with it and actually structure it into a proper composition. Then we met up in Cederberg Studios together with the band to take it even further. This song is a proof that even the smallest sparks can turn into a big flame. Despite being a band who always wants to explore new territories, I believe “Running Low” can easily unite both our old and new fan base.”

Next to the Jewelcase CD and Digital Album versions, “Aphelion” will also be available as limited edition Mediabook CD (with expanded booklet) and as Gatefold 2LP+CD with two bonus tracks.

The album’s 180g 2LP vinyl version, which comes in Gatefold packaging and with the entire album on CD as bonus, is available in various colors and limited editions.

FATHER BEFORE ME Releases New Video For “Behind The Veil”

FATHER BEFORE ME has premiered a new video for “Behind The Veil” via Ghost Cult Magazine. The video can be viewed here.

Behind The Veil is the next single from Father Before Me‘s blistering new EP “Ruby” which was released on major platforms June 25th.

Father Before Me kicks off their sophomore EP, Ruby, with four brand new anthemic tracks. Fans of the debut Emerald will immediately recognize FBM’s signature blend of catchy melodies, fast beats and intricate guitar work. Following Emerald, the new EP Ruby is faster, breathier, more explosive, and notably more mature. As always, savvy FBM listeners already know that each of these songs contain ample pop culture nods.

“Behind the Veil” is a true working class anthem. The story is universal – selling one’s own mind and soul just to make enough to get by. Giving your all every day only to receive a tip of the hat in return. Father Before Me reminds us that “your mind’s not for auction, your soul’s not for sale.” Feeling under appreciated and taken advantage of, but your worth can’t be measured. The accompanying music video is an animated feat – a first for a Father Before Me video – exploding in colors and mind-bending imagery that bring the lyrics alive.

The EP takes a darker turn with the second number, “Trepidation.” Songwriter Elijah Catrone channeled his mental health experience into “Trepidation” by personifying his depression and anxiety as a monster from a horror movie.

“Until Lambs Become Lions” kicks off with a guitar shred reminiscent of a fire at the core of the EP’s namesake Ruby. The lead single, “Lambs” explodes with the high energy needed to face any challenge. Much like the city skyline from the cover art, life can also take the shape of a treacherous steep climb. But as the lyrics say, “the choice is ours alone” – keep climbing and you can face the impossible.

Closing out the EP, as if facing the aftermath of a city earlier destroyed, is “Under New Kingdoms.” The piece starts off with brooding lyrical imagery like a vision of smoke and red flowers and proceeds to showcase singer Catrone’s melodic vocals laid on top of a driving mix of half-time and double-time rhythms. Father Before Me closes out the EP by leaving the listener a tad bittersweet, but always hopeful.

The EP cover continues the collaboration between Father Before Me and Capstan Designs. The artwork suggests New York City under a chaotic fire, with words of negativity sprinkled throughout the buildings. Yet, looking closer, you see a small message of “Hope” written on the Statue of Liberty’s arm as she prepares herself for battling the odds.

The EP is self-released by independent artist Father Before Me. Songs were mixed and mastered by genre veterans Grant McFarland and Carson Slovak at Atrium Audio (August Burns Red, Carousel Kings). The animated music video was animated by Taylor Bowen of Hausriot Studios.

[ “This EP was a reflection of the climb and the tribulations I’ve faced in the last few years. It is a testament of survival in environments where you seem doomed to fail but still finding the power to persevere through even the darkest of times” – Elijah Catrone]

Rockshots Records Signs Brazilian Multi-Instrumentalist Lucas Barbosa For TERRA’s Debut Album “Hypercube”

Rockshots Records is proud to announce their signing of Brazilian multi-instrumentalist Lucas Barbosa for the release of his studio project Terra and its debut album “Hypercube”.

Terra is a musical, audiovisual and artistic experience that translates the personality and experiences of Brazilian composer and multi-instrumentalist Lucas Barbosa, resulting in a musical journey for those who love music and adventure.

“The idea of Terra was always there, I believe. I have been composing and writing songs since I was 15. I needed a platform to structure and back these songs. This platform should allow me to combine some passions of mine: folk and metal music, traveling and photography. When I was around 20, I came up with the concept of TERRA, a project that would combine all the influences that made the musician and the person I am, in an organic manner, which would allow me to tell my stories of discoveries and exploration, including my experiences traveling through Brazil and throughout the world. It took about 10 years to actually find the environment and opportunity to bring this idea to life by recording Hypercube and kick-starting this journey.” comments Barbosa.

Terra’s first record is the outcome of the combination of elements put together to tell a story of a journey of growth and self-discovery, that frankly, could be the tale of every human being at some point in their lives. There are ten songs to paint a picture of the artist’s personality and explore each step of the way with the respective deserved depth. Although heavy metal is the glue that unites all the musical nuances presented on this album, “Hypercube” does not shy away from a rich range of influences such as American Bluegrass, Country Music, Classic Rock, Classical Music, Western Folk, traditional Brazilian, Caipira and Sertanejo music along with passages of Samba, Capoeira, Bossa Nova and many others to convey its message.

Lucas Barbosa was responsible for playing almost all instruments, including rhythm and lead guitars in all their forms (electric, classical, 6 string, 12 string), bass, Brazilian guitar (or Viola Caipira), Andean guitar (or Charango), Pan flute (Andean flute), Thai bong, harmonica, castanets, moringa, whistle, piano and percussions, in addition to singing all the songs.

Terra‘s debut album“Hypercube” is due out November 2021. The first single will be released on July 27th.
