TOMMY CONCRETE Announces New Album ‘Hexenzirkel’, Out June 25th

TOMMY CONCRETE will release a new album ‘Hexenzirkel’ on June 25th, through Trepanation Records.

“There are people who say there is nothing new in rock and heavy metal these days, and then there is Tommy Concrete.  (He is) quite possibly one of the most thought provoking and intelligent writers and composers out there today.” Gary Cooper, The Moshville Times

“Sometimes harrowing, sometimes enlightening, there isn’t a second […] that doesn’t feel completely genuine.” – Nathan Tyler, Astral Noize

Marked by relentless persistence and an ever-evolving creative spirit, the music of Edinburgh, Scotland solo artist Tommy Concrete pushes new boundaries with the upcoming album Hexenzirkel.  Due out via Trepanation Records later this year, Hexenzirkel features an array of guest artists and incorporates unexpected musical genres to deliver a soundscape that fans of Devin Townsend, Ihsahn, The Gathering and Opeth will enjoy.

Concrete says of the album,

“It uses the same musical ingredients as my previous work, as in it’s a combination of black, doom, prog, and trad metal.  But this time I’ve tried to create a fusion of styles as opposed to swapping between them.  This concept came from listening to 70s flamenco/rock fusion artists such as Al Di Meola and Cameron De La Isla.  Hexenzirkel also contains elements of flamenco, trip-hop, rap, and alt-rock thrown in with the usual blend of extreme metals.”

Lyrically, Concrete considers the album an exploration of psychosis of which he was diagnosed in 2019. A condition which he came to terms with during the global pandemic, in so far as it gave him the drive to create Hexenzirkel. The lyrics were written in order as they appear on the album, in almost diary format from March 2020 – May 2020.

Concrete, who is autistic, experiences synesthesia which is the ability to experience sound and music visually. His recent Unrelaxed 1 & 2 albums had neurodiversity as the lyrical concept. This time Concrete decided to represent neuro-diversity musically, by utilizing his synesthesia as a creative tool. In as such as drawing the music first and composing the songs to fit the shapes and colors. Hexenzirkel is literally the sound and shape (if your have synesthesia) of psychosis.

Hexenzirkel contains more doom metal influences than his previous releases. A genre he is more known for outside his solo work, having most recently appeared in three of the forty bands of the recent ‘Doomed & Stoned in Scotland’ compilation, namely Psychotic Depression, Jackal Headed Guard of the Dead and of course Tommy Concrete.

He has taken a definite turn from his time with Scottish punk legends The Exploited, forging his own solo identity.  Now with Hexenzirkel, his ninth solo album and the second with Trepanation, Concrete welcomes a wealth of collaborators to continue this musical evolution.  “The word ‘Hexenzirkel’ is German for ‘witches coven,’ which I felt was an appropriate title as so many people have contributed to the album,” he says.

Concrete is joined by the following vocalists:

-Laura Gilchrist of doom metal band King Witch
-Jenni Sneddon of witch rock band Juniper Grave
-Michael Brannagh of Tommy Concrete and the Werewolves and formerly American hard rock band Warrior Soul
-Christian Kimmet from Warrior Soul and American glam legends Love Hate
-Jamie Herkes from Tommy Concrete and the Werewolves and Scottish punks Critkill
-Bryan Ramage from prog metal band Ramage Inc.

Ramage also produced, mixed, and mastered the album.

Hexenzirkel will be available in CD and digital formats on 25th June 2021.

Philly Rockers THE AGE OF TRUTH Make Steadfast Return With Storming New Album + Single

Casting kinships from the heaviest rock and metal around, self-proclaimed brothers-in-arms, THE AGE OF TRUTH, return this summer with their brand-new studio album, Resolute.

Upon the release of their 2017 debut Threshold, the band were not only defined by their adventurous ideas, but also their conviction and togetherness as a hard rocking unit.

“Together we’ve constantly tried to evolve our song writing, instrumentation and the sound we wanted to capture,” explains bassist, William Miller. “This album has been a real journey for us and almost three years in the making. We’ve held ourselves to exacting standards every step of the way.”

With Resolute, the Philadelphian quartet have rebuilt their entire sound atop an unshakable foundation. Producing a record that is bigger and bolder than anything they’ve attempted before, the band has newly replenished their arsenal of deadly tones, diesel-fuelled fuzz, and heavy psychedelic blues.

One of the defining benchmarks on Resolute is new single ‘Salome’; a silver-riffed beast that will strike a chord with followers of classic stoner rock and Clutch’s no-nonsense aural assaults. Throw in the majestic gravitational-altering grooves of Soundgarden and it truly encapsulates everything The Age of Truth is about.

Resolute will be officially released on 23rd July 2021 through Contessa Music. In the meantime, however you can stream their brand-new new single ‘Salome’ right now via The Obelisk – https://bit.ly/3y86hz5

WYTHERSAKE Release ‘Antiquity’ Video

US blackened-death metal hottest newcomers WYTHERSAKE have released a video for the song ‘Antiquity’ – taken from their debut album of the same name, available on Scarlet Records.

This is how the band commented: “Early on in the planning stages we decided to have this first video focus on us as a band performing. No story, no actors – just us. We all miss performing live and felt like this could be an outlet for us and hopefully for everyone watching. Although the video itself may seem like something simple to create since it was solely performance based, we experienced some delays and setbacks that made it a bit more complicated. We really appreciate our long time friends who came through for us with providing a killer location as well as the amazing job done with the video itself. So let’s get right to it. Ladies and Gentleman, we are proud to present the official video for the titletrack ‘Antiquity’. Cheers!”

Combining the sophisticated and progressive/melodic side of the 90’s Scandinavian death-black masters with sheer American fierceness and frenzy, Wythersake is the band that the extreme metal scene has been craving for a long time.

The secret ingredient of their astonishing debut is the fact that they allowed themselves the freedom and time to explore different sounds, layers and dynamics, all pushed to the limit. Lyrically, the concept of ‘Antiquity’ revolves around apostasy and Gnosticism: in the early Middle Ages, personal spiritual growth and knowledge and the eradication of ignorance became considered heretical and were replaced by salvation through unquestioning faith and piety and a focus on eradication of sin (by any means necessary).

The evocative artwork by Alvaro Valverde/AV Ilustración beautifully depicts the themes of ‘Antiquity’, which is available in a 4-panel digipack.

Fast-rising St. Louis, MO, USA based black metal export STORMRULER will release their infernal, fantasy battle-inspired full-length offering, Under The Burning Eclipse,on Friday, May 28 via Napalm Records, and are thrilled to announce that fans will be able to experience their sinister mastery in all its glory on the very same day – from their own homes!

On May 28 at 12pm PDT/3pm EDT/9pm CEST, Black Metal Promotion will stream the band’s very first performance virtually, for free, in celebration of the new album’s release. STORMRULER says about the stream:
“We’re incredibly excited for everything to finally make it to this point and we can’t think of a better way of saying thank you for the all the support this early on.

We’ve got two very close friends of ours helping fill out the live lineup – Marcus Newstead (Fister, Daybringer) doing a bang up job on second guitar duties, and Tim Kutterer (Bastard, Lightning Wolf) crushing it on the low end. We’ve all been grinding hard as hell to get these songs ready to show everyone, and I think it shows. This might be the inaugural STORMRULER set, but it will be just a sample of what’s to come.”

Watch the stream HERE on May 28 at 12pm PDT/3pm EDT/9pm CEST!

STORMRULER – featuring the dark lyrical genius and deft skill of guitarist/vocalist Jason Asberry and drummer Jesse Schobel – have built a noteworthy subterranean following since their formation, leading to their recent signing with Napalm Records. Combining unrelenting black metal atmosphere and vision from varying metal genres with a brutal, modernized twist of inspiration, careful listeners may just be able to identify themes from some of their favorite stories, games and more…

Featuring 19 tracks alternating between ominous instrumental ambience and incendiary black metal riffs and fury, the album tells harrowing tales of war, death, victory and defeat, and delivers an unmatched, hellscaped auditory experience. Creeping in like menacing sonic smoke, instrumental ambient intro track “Shine Of Ivory Horns” launches directly into opener “Reign Of The Winged Duke”, instantly careening into a cascade of pummeling drums and charred riffage. Under The Burning Eclipse evenly ebbs and flows between warning mystical atmosphere and ghastly action, evident on the likes of blackened headbobbers “Age Of Steel & Blood”, “Dawn Of The Eternal Fire” and unrelenting 8+ minute title epic “Under The Burning Eclipse”. Standout burner “Of Hollowed Souls & Distant Flame” looks to the north with archaic screams and memorable, colossal progressions, while combat-ready tracks like “At The Cliffs Of Azure City” incorporate ruminations of classic heavy metal combined with scorched, war-torn percussion. The album traverses desolate musical peaks and valleys before closing with the otherworldly brutality of “Fear The Old Blood” – a non-stop onslaught of black metal attack – and ambient, acoustically-driven finisher of olde “Fields Of Mortal Shame”. Under The Burning Eclipse is a solid hour of fantasy-laden, grim fables transfixed in blackened scourge. Fans of extreme metal will not want to miss this debut offering from the mighty STORMRULER!

Swedish Multi-Instrumentalist PER WIBERG Premieres New EP ‘All Is Well In The Land Of The Living’

MetalSucks is currently streaming All Is Well In The Land Of The Living, But For The Rest Of Us… Lights Out, the brilliant new solo EP from Swedish multi-instrumentalist PER WIBERG. The EP comes out today, Friday, May 14th via Despotz Records.

Aptly titled for these turbulent times, WIBERG’s latest EP is a commanding celebration of innovative rock at its finest. Expanding and further evolving his vision, WIBERG adeptly paints the definitive and familiar paradigms of golden age progressive rock with spirited and electrifying twists of dark tone. Listening to a master weave his deep spells, from shadow to light, we are at once entranced and delighted in equal measure as PER WIBERG brews a potent concoction that’s captivating, catchy and forever expansive and impassioned. From tracks like “All Is Well,” which comes across like Young Gods gone prog, to the haunting and avant-garde “But for The Rest Of Us,” which basks in dark improv in the vein of Alice Coltrane/Sun Ra, WIBERG unfolds his sound in blankets of fresh atmosphere. “In The Land Of The Living” smashes latter era Sonic Youth alt rock into the heavy fuzzing riffs of King Crimson/Hawkwind with a bassline that has you hitting the steering-wheel across bleak highways while “Lights Out” lies on the melancholic side of Dark Side Of The Moon with Ulver at their most post-pop and early Porcupine Tree at their most anthemic. If you want to hear Swedish progressive metal taken to the next level of dark melodic exploration, you will find your black heart shrouded in a very different kind of heavy with All Is Well In The Land Of The Living…

Writes MetalSucks, “All Is Well In The Land Of The Living… represents WIBERG’s most ambitious work to date. No two songs sound alike; it is genre-defying, psychedelic, atmospheric, catchy, expansive, and dark without being dour or dreary. It’s a big creative swing, but WIBERG hits it out of the park and no second feels misguided, tedious, or wasted. We hope to hear much, much more material in this vein from WIBERG in the future.”

Witness PER WIBERG’s All Is Well In The Land Of The Living, But For The Rest Of Us… Lights Out, exclusively via MetalSucks, at THIS LOCATION.

The EP will be released on vinyl and digital formats. Find physical preorders at THIS LOCATION and digital orders HERE.

A sonic craftsman of the highest order, WIBERG’s work has illuminated an array of classic albums (and stages) over the years performing with the likes of Opeth, Spiritual Beggars, and Candlemass, as well as Clutch/The Bakerton Group, Switchblade, and Kamchatka to name but a few. However, it’s WIBERG’s solo work that serves as the pinnacle of his odyssey through music. Over three decades of expertise culminate into a sound that is distinctly PER WIBERG’s own, with Classic Rock describing it as, “sometimes reminiscent of the distant beauty of Steven Wilson, sometimes of the industrial hypothermia of Nine Inch Nails, and sometimes of simply nothing that existed before him.”

In 2019, WIBERG released his debut solo offering Head Without Eyes, consummating his career as a musician with an eruption of soulful song. Nordic prog in a gnawing stew of jolting guitar notes, jangling bones, and emotive melodies, the critically-lauded recording laid bare a beautifully uncharted new terrain that outstripped the laurels of his past and solidified his strong presence as a unique solo artist in his own right. PER WIBERG aced his class of prog and now has the history books firmly at his command. Take a seat, and kick back to All Is Well In The Land Of The Living… and let WIBERG’s masterclass of atmospheric rock open a gap in the universe for you to escape and survive these dark times.
