Cleopatra Records is sad to hear of the passing of the supremely talented rock guitarist Jeff LaBar at age 58. LaBar’s dexterous and melodic playing helped propel Cinderella’s 1986 debut album Night Songs to the #3 spot on the Billboard album charts and would soon be certified platinum. Being an integral part of Cinderella’s sound, LaBar would continue with the group all the way through to their final recording as a band, the phenomenal 1999 concert album Live At The Key Club, which was released on CD by Cleopatra Records’ metal imprint Deadline Music. LaBar’s talent showed through on that live recording as well as on the impressive video concert document In Concert, which was released as a DVD in 2005 capturing LaBar and the boys on their massive 1991 Heartbreak Station tour. The DVD would be RIAA Certified Gold later that year. LaBar continued to record with other projects like Freak Show featuring Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali and the band Naked Beggars and would occasionally re-unite with Tom Keifer and the rest of Cinderella for some spectacular live performances that are certain to live on in fan’s memories for years to come.

Cleopatra Records owner Brian Perera remarked “Jeff LaBar was such an amazing guitarist and a very dear friend. We will miss him and the good times we shared. We extend all our love and deepest sympathies to his family and fans.”

R.I.P. Jeff!

THY KINGDOM WILL BURN Release Video for ‘Season Of Sorrow’

Finnish melodic death metallers THY KINGDOM WILL BURN have released a video for the song ‘Season of Sorrow’ – the third single taken from their self-titled debut album, released in June by Scarlet Records.

In the band’s own words: “It’s all about the coming of winter. Finish winter. About the time when sun ceases to exist and darkness descends. It also tells how that period of time depresses someone and how they dream to run away from it. It is the fight song against darkness. As the last song of the album it creates a bridge for our upcoming second
album.”

‘Thy Kingdom Will Burn’ has been engineered, mixed and mastered by Juho Räihä at SoundSpiral Audio (To/Die/For, Swallow The Sun, Before The Dawn, Wolfheart). The superb, Lovecraftian artwork was made by Richard Luong-Tentacles and Teeth.

Prepare for the never-ending winter, prepare for a cathartic season of sorrow: Thy Kingdom Will Burn.

IMPERIAL AGE have launched a crowdfunding campaign for the release of their third album “New World”. The album release date is set for December 2021.

The video for the campaign includes a new demo track – ‘The Call of the Towers’.

“New World” is the successor to IMPERIAL AGE’s 2018 album “The Legacy Of Atlantis” and contains 12 songs (one of them – the mentioned “The Call Of The Towers” – is 20 minutes long!).

The cover art was painted by Darkgrove‘s Jan Yrlynd under strict instructions from Aor and Jane (the band leaders) and is actually a ciphered text written in the same metaphoric language as the Tarot cards.

TESLA Announce “Let’s Get Real!” Tour 2021

After an 18 month hiatus that the world has taken from live concerts due to the Covid-19 lockdown, America’s multi-platinum rockers TESLA are announcing their return to performing live concerts with the “LET’S GET REAL!” tour – kicking off August 5th in Grants Pass, Oregon. The tour will include shows with legendary artists Styx, Kid Rock, and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and will continue until November 2021 – hitting the continental USA and Mexico.

Frank Hannon: “We are so excited and anxious to get back to performing ‘real’ live concerts again. There’s nothing like the energy of being in the same spontaneous moment with an audience of people. Tesla has always taken pride in being a high energy live band relying on performances without any backing tracks or pre-recorded help. We are planning some surprises for our fans on this upcoming tour by playing some deeper Tesla cuts as well as a fresh brand new song we just wrote. Of course we will play the hits as well, but introducing a fresh new track on this return is something we are very excited about!”

Tickets and special VIP Soundcheck packages are on sale now at www.TeslaTheBand.com

TESLA: Over the course of their thirty-five year + career, the iconic Sacramento melodic hard rock quintet—Frank Hannon (guitar), Brian Wheat (bass), Jeff Keith (lead vocals), Troy Luccketta (drums), and Dave Rude (guitar)—sold more than 25 million albums domestically and played globally to sold-out crowds far and wide. To say TESLA live is absolutely bombastic is an understatement, they are a hard rock band to beat all hard rock bands.

Jim Matheos’ TUESDAY THE SKY Reveal Details for New Album ‘The Blurred Horizon’, Launch First Single “Hypneurotic”

Posted by tarjavirmakari on July 15, 2021

On September 3rd, TUESDAY THE SKY will release their new album, The Blurred Horizon, via Metal Blade Records. For a first preview of the record, the new single, “Hypneurotic” – which features drummer Gavin Harrison – can be heard at: metalblade.com/tuesdaythesky, where The Blurred Horizon can also be pre-ordered in various formats.

Tuesday The Sky‘s origins could almost be considered accidental. Guitarist Jim Matheos, famed for his work with progressive metal giants Fates Warning alongside projects such as OSI and his collaboration with John Arch, Arch/Matheos, penned a few songs that did not fit in with any of his established outlets, and intrigued by this, decided to write more and see where this took him. The result was 2017’s Drift, a record that drew influence from the likes of Brian Eno, Sigur Ros, Boards Of Canada and Explosions In The Sky, and now he returns with its successor, The Blurred Horizon. A mixture of ambient, electronica, post-rock and more, The Blurred Horizon is perhaps best described as a beautiful record, having a natural grace to it. While predominantly the work of Matheos, he is not the sole performer on the record, enlisting the help of other musicians where necessary. “It’s primarily a solo project, but with the idea of having different guests on each record to help fill it out and, hopefully, give each one a slightly different sound. With the first record, there was Anna Lynne Williams on vocals for a couple of songs, and Lloyd Hanney of God Is An Astronaut on drums. For this one, the live drums on five tracks were handled by Gavin Harrison of The Pineapple Thief, King Crimson, and Porcupine Tree. He’s my absolute favorite drummer, so he was the first person I thought of when I decided that some of the songs could benefit from real drums. I originally was thinking of just one or two songs, but once I heard how good he made them sound, I kept asking him do more, which, thankfully, he agreed to. His playing added a whole new dimension to the songs, particularly on ‘Hypneurotic’, where he plays two different full drum kit takes, panned left and right, to achieve a kind of ‘double drummer’ effect.”

“Everything Is Free” – the closing track and only one on the record to include vocals – is a cover of a Gillian Welch and David Rawlings song from 2001. “Fates Warning were thinking about doing some cover tunes as bonus tracks for ‘Long Day Good Night’ (2020), and when that didn’t happen, I kept this one in mind for a future project. It seemed to fit nicely here, even though it’s an otherwise instrumental album, and the vocals are by Tim Bowness. Like Gavin, Tim is someone I’ve worked with in the past, with OSI and several other projects. He’s got a beautiful voice and his gentle delivery is just what I wanted for this one.”
