COMBICHRIST Premiere Official Music Video For ‘Not My Enemy’

Industrial core band COMBICHRIST has premiered the official music video for single “Not My Enemy” on Revolver. There will be headlining US tours in September with support from King810 announced soon.

“I’m stoked as fk about this track. Rich DeSilva killed it doing this video for me. The world might be standing still, but music still keeps flowing”says Andy LaPlegua, the band’s vocalist.

The video can be seen here.

Initially cutting his teeth in the seminal Norwegian hardcore bands My Right Choice (later re-named Fleshfire) and European hardcore legends; Lash Out, LaPlegua segued into the electronic music world with Icon of Coil. Originally a solo project, it morphed into a full band. Not only did IOC mark LaPlegua’s first major work with electronics and dance beats, but it also granted him wider exposure beyond Norway; IOC was LaPlegua’s first project to be released in the United States. It wasn’t until 2003 that LaPlegua founded Combichrist -the project that would soon dominate his time. A departure from IOC’s softer electronic sound, Combichrist took LaPlegua’s hardcore past and electronica present and merged them into a singular, mechanical monster. Without the compromise of the band dynamic, LaPlegua, who does everything in the studio himself on Combichrist releases, was able to explore whatever avenue he desired musically. What he found was a long dark road with plenty of twists and turns. The Joy of Gunz, LaPlegua’s first release as Combichrist, was quickly followed by two EP’s: 2004’s Kiss the Blade and Sex Drogen und Industrial. In 2005, LaPlegua was back at it again, releasing the landmark album Everybody Hates You. Defying the dreaded sophomore slump, the second Combichrist full-length featured two tracks that would become club classics “This Shit Will Fuck You Up” and “This Is My Rifle” and was also the project’s U.S. debut on Metropolis Records. Further benchmarks were set with the release of the 2006 EP Get Your Body Beat, the title track of which landed Combichrist its first appearance on Billboard’s Top 10 Dance Singles chart.

The years that followed brought on 6 more full-length albums —What the Fuck Is Wrong with You People? (2007), Today We Are All Demons (2009), Making Monsters (2010), No Redemption (Official DmC: Devil May Cry Soundtrack)(2013), We Love You (2014), This Is Where Death Begins (2016) -as well as a handful of additional EPs. On top of Combichrist’s many releases, LaPlegua has also logged countless miles, globetrotting on tours of Europe, South America, Australia, the United States, and four full months in Europe and North America touring with Rammstein (in front of hundreds of thousands of people).Combichrist released album One Fire, in June of 2019.

Combichrist live lineup is:
Andy LaPlegua (vocals)
Eric 13 (Guitar)
Elliot Berlin (keyboards/guitar)
Dane White (Drums)

METHADONE SKIES Reveal Album Details And Brand New Music Video

Romanian psychedelic doom and post-rock collective METHADONE SKIES has announced the details of their upcoming, fifth studio album, entitled Retrofuture Caveman, which is slated for a released on May 7, 2021.

Following their highly acclaimed, 2019- album Different Layers of Fear, the instrumental quartet did not waste any time and started working on their new record during the pandemic. METHADONE SKIES, who formed in 2009, has released 4 full length records so far; each LP shares its own musical direction, often leaning into stoner, post-rock and doom metal territories. Never fearing any boundaries, every album highlights the sum of the band’s various influences and constant sonic exploration.

Retrofuture Caveman dives even deeper into the post-rock and doom metal worlds. These contrasting styles are ultimately blended with progressive elements, a stoner rock touch and psychedelic spheres. While this eclectic mix flows in a perfect balance, Retrofuture Caveman will easily become the band’s most ambitious and mature work to date. But let the music speak for itself, as METHADONE SKIES has just premiered a brand new music video for their first album single, “Infected By Friendship”! The track is one of the most straight-forward and uplifting songs you will find on their new record, gradually exploding into a massive wall of sound. Its surreal music video was created by the band’s drummer, Flavius Retea, and Alexandra Dragu, watch the clip right here:

“We usually pick a heavy song as an album teaser, but this time we tried something different, ” the band comments. “We really dug the song right from the beginning of the creation process and it feels more soothing than many others in our catalog. The title obviously references the pandemic, yet we wanted to give the term a positive twist. Music became even more important for people in these complicated times, so we hope it acts as a sonic getaway from the listener’s daily routine.”

Retrofuture Caveman was recorded in Timisoara, Romania, at Consonance Studio by Edmond Karban, Cristian Popescu and Andrei Jumuga (all of them members of DorDeDuh and Sunset in the 12th House), and was mixed and mastered by James Plotkin. Additional keyboard layers were added by Marius Muntean (The Thirteenth Sun, Black Water). The album will be released on May 7th as LP Gatefold, CD, Digital formats and a limited Cassette Tape edition through METHADONE SKIES’ own imprint, Haywire Records. The artwork was created by Mihai Manescu (aka Obsidian Nibs).

Album Tracklist:

  1. Retrofuture Caveman
  2. Infected by Friendship
  3. The Enabler
  4. Western Luv ‘67
  5. When the Sleeper Awakens

Finnish ULTIMATIUM Release New Single ‘Ghost Of Yesterday’

Finnish Power Prog Metallers ULTIMATIUM have shared “Ghost Of Yesterday” track off their latest album “Virtuality”. Watch the video below.

Ultimatium was birthed out the deep forests of Suomussalmi, Finland. Their 4th studio full length “Virtuality” follows their independently released “Vis Vires Infinitus” (2015), “New Dawn” (2004, Mastervox Records), and  “Hwainoo”  (2008, Mastervox Records).

The premise behind “Virtuality” is an introduction of a storyline of four gamers getting stuck in a virtual reality game in a near-future setting. Packed with five amazing lead vocalists, Peter James Goodman (Conquest, ex-Virtuocity),  Jukka Nummi (ex-Myon), Emily Leone, Tomi Viiltola (ex-Dreamtale, Perpetual Rage, Viilto) and Matti Auerkallio (Katra, Manzana, SoulFallen), “Virtuality” is a unique storyline about the virtual world, and the dangers of sharing everything in social media, along with up-tempo power metal songs combined with darker elements.

The story album is backed up with lots of background vocals, sound effects and a “narrator”/system voice synthesized with Amazon’s Alexa.

The album introduces the best parts of power and progressive metal combined, including easier up-tempo songs, but also long, progressive mid-tempo tracks. The songs take influence from such bands as Stratovarius, Dream Theater, Symphony X and Rainbow. Especially on tracks “Digital Tower” and “Ghost of Yesterday” where influences from Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore are easily heard.

“Virtuality” is available as CD / Digital Download / Streaming

Prog Legends RUPHUS To Release Sixth And Final Album ‘Manmade’ From Back Catalogue

Karisma Records have set the 7th May as the date when they will their complete their ambitious task of releasing the entire back catalogue of Norwegian prog/jazz rock legends RUPHUS.

From their early days playing hard progressive rock, to becoming one of the leaders in the field of jazz rock RUPHUS were regarded as a ground-breaking band – the Norwegian equivalent of YES if you like, not just in style, but also in skill, as evidenced by their long, melodic  compositions,  and multiple, intertwined themes.

Originally released in 1979, “Manmade” was  a truly  worthy end to the career of a band who, over the years, has created a musical legacy that is as fresh, varied  and original today as it was over three decades ago.   And the reason why RUPHUS has been able to create so much variety in their sound is due in large part to the band’s revolving door strategy, with each new member bringing with them their own influences, skills and performances.

After the 1978 release of the band’s fifth album “Flying Colours” RUPHUS lost three of its members. One of them was drummer Thor Bendiksen a loss that, on the surface, seemed almost unthinkable as he had been one of the original founding members.  But nothing seemed to deters the  band that has always relished change,  and Bjørn Jenssen proved to be a more than worthy replacement.

Elsewhere Kjell Rønningen replaced Jan Simonsen on keyboards, whilst vocalist  Gudny Aspaas returned for her third stint with the band.  Along with original members Kjell Larsen on guitars and  Asle Nilsen on bass, both of whom were the only members to appear on all the band’s albums, RUPHUS decamped to the UK to record “Manmade” with producers Steven O’Donnell and Colin H. Jennings.

As with the previous five RUPHUS back-catalogue releases, the considerable skills of Jacob Holm-Lupo (WHITE WILLOW, THE OPIUM CARTEL, etc) were called upon to re-master “Manmade”, which will be available in CD, LP and a 250 copy Limited Edition White Vinyl Version.

With cover design by Bruno Oldani, tracklisting for “Manmade” is as follows:

  1. Clear View
  2. Snowy Days
  3. Greener Grass Elsewhere
  4. Dear Friend
  5. When the Tide Comes In
  6. Fashion of Today

“Manmade” is now available to pre-order from karismarecords.no/shop

‘Slave In a Cage’ is a song about being stuck in the day to day life most of us are living. We all live in a society that tells us what we conveniently want and need, what we can or cannot have. We consume, submit, obey and follow the rules that govern us. The visaed are here to stay, we can’t escape. We are all just sad slaves in a cage…

Australian fans will get to see CICADSTONE live with album launches in Melbourne and Sydney. Melbourne Live at Stay Gold on Friday 19th March: Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/662164514491841

Melbourne-based four-piece Cicadastone deliver music that packs a punch. With an old school 90’s influences and a slick modern edge, Cicadastone have found their own space in the grunge rock genre. Formed in 2013 by founding members and brothers Mat and Mark Robins, they have spent the last few years honing their sound and live show, as well as constantly writing and releasing quality music.

In 2016 Cicadastone released their debut album Chance Collide. A bold statement and an impressive first release.
