They played to 110,000 people over the course of two nights at the massive TOKYO DOME, supported Red Hot Chili Peppers on their UK/US arena tour along with additional support slots with Metallica in South Korea and Guns N’ Roses in Japan, followed by 4 total days in Japan in 2019 with BRING ME THE HORIZON as BABYMETAL’s guest act.

In February 2020, BABYMETAL embarked on their full European headline run consisting of 17 dates in 11 countries.

Formed in Japan in 2010, the band began, supported by the so-called Kami-Band, their mission to unify the world through Heavy Metal by creating a fusion of heavy metal and the Japanese pop genre. Their music contains a stunning mix of electronic pop, a pinch of alternative and industrial rock and is levelled up by fast driven heavy metal. Their live shows are ground-breaking and epic visual as well as sound performances.

BABYMETAL continued to travel the path of Metal with the international release of their three albums, telling the story of the mighty FOX GOD and his brave metal warriors.

In October 2019 they began a new chapter with SU-METAL and MOAMETAL at the front, jumping straight to #13 in the US Billboard charts.

Norway’s VULTURE INDUSTRIES have announced their second online performance! This time, the event will take place from the historic location of Salhus Tricotagefabrik (NO). The unique event will take place on February 6 @ 3:00 P.M. EST // 12:00 P.M. PST. The stream is completely free and will be made available on the bands YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Front man Bjørnar explains:

“This time we travel to the historical location of Salhus Tricotagefabrik. Established in 1859 the factory was once the industrial heart of the west coast community Salhus. With a production line that went from raw wool to finished products, the factory had its production peak in 1957 and employed 357 people. Specialized in undergarments, stockings, sports and leisure clothes, strong competition from cheap alternatives drove the factory into an economic crisis in the 1980’s and 1989 it closed its doors. Now a knitting factory museum, the concert will take us into the very core of the factory.”

Link to the digital museum: HERE

Regarding the knitting competition, he continues:

“With the ongoing pandemic we would like to do our part in activating you all, so we call on fans, friends and foes to do their worst and call the first annual grand knitting competition. To take part you must make your own special piece of Vulture Industries band merch. Long undergarments, a headband, a pair of mittens…. Make whatever you want. To take part post a picture of what you made on Facebook and tag Vulture Industries. The deadline to enter the competition is Saturday, February 6, and the winner will receive a 200 € gift voucher for https://vultureindustries.bigcartel.com/.”

About tickets:
“We have fans all over the world and concert ticket prices vary from country to county. The ongoing pandemic has also hit some harder than others. Therefore we don’t want to hide the concert behind a paywall. Still…. generosity is appreciated and for those who prefer a set price, you can pick either a signed paper ticket or get a digital one.”

Kuwait/Syria-Born, Now Toronto-Based DEREV Deliver Debut Single “Futile”

In a release that’s anything but “Futile,” Canadian rockers DEREV harness the intensity of metal with atmospheric progressive sounds, all while incorporating elements of their Arabic and Armenian heritage in this, their propulsive new single — available now!

The freshly pressed debut track for the Toronto-based three-piece features the guest vox of Adel Saflou (Ambrotype); its video then whisks audiences on a vivid journey through the mind of an individual who is exhausted from a life lived glued to a screen and yearns to return to a more natural way of life.

“Contrary to what one might assume when seeing the music video, it’s not meant to illustrate or predict our future as this ‘doomsday,’” says Syrian drummer and songwriter Michel Karakach. “We’re not predicting the future or saying that our species is going to be dominated by machines or overtaken by this advanced artificial intelligence.”

“Rather, it’s about the present situation and how integrated we have become with this technology,” Armenian guitarist and songwriter Armando Bablanian adds. “We are so dependent on it that we hardly do any activity that does not involve us being behind a screen.”

“Futile” is the first single to land ahead of Derev’s forthcoming EP, Leap of Faith — available this Spring.

“Musically, the album combines the energy and intensity of metal music with the atmospheric feel of old-school progressive rock music,” bassist Liam Horrigan considers. “It’s also filled with mellow sections and solos that trigger emotions and deliver the message of the EP, not only through melodies and lyrics, but also through a personal and intimate experience.

“There’s many peaks and troughs.”

Although Leap of Faith isn’t slated as a concept album, per se, the common theme is about seeing things from a different perspective. “And taking action to make a change,” Bablanian offers. “Each song aims to discuss a different topic, and we target numerous controversial ones — including social issues our community faces on a daily basis.”

“It starts with a track that talks about questioning things that are culturally presumed as absolute truths: what is moral, what is taboo, the idea of going to war for peace, and so on…” Karakach expands. “The album also discusses personal struggles and hurdles that bring us down, leaving us stumped and overwhelmed with doubt and remorse, rather than taking action and achieving what we set out to do.

“The overall experience of Leap of Faith delivers a message that every listener can relate to on some level, and be moved by.”

Leap of Faith may be Derev’s newly minted breakout album, but the band’s earliest rumblings could be heard a long time ago.

With Bablanian and Karakach first meeting in high school while living in Kuwait, “we were unable to pursue the project at the time due to the circumstances of living in the Middle East,” they share.

In the meantime, Karakach received his dental degree in Syria before immigrating to Canada,  actively drumming and songwriting along the way. For his part, Bablanian received an engineering degree from the University of Toronto while also part of Canadian metal band, Till I Conquer — with whom he released an EP and three singles. Horrigan — also a UofT engineering alum — used to be in the Ottawa-area band Open Season; he’s also released a solo alt-rock offering under @t_ii_f.

Prog Rockers AIRBAG Release Video Of Live Acoustic Set

Posted by tarjavirmakari on January 30, 2021

Prog Rockers AIRBAG have released a video of the band performing a short acoustic set comprising four songs, three of which are taken from the band’s current album “A Day at the Beach”, and a fourth track, which has never been released before.

In a play on words referencing their  latest album, “A Day in the Studio”  is a set that  shows one of Norway’s leading prog bands in an intimate setting, away from the usual festival stages, which is where fans are most used to seeing them.

It is very much a way to connect with fans during a bleak period throughout the world, and one in which live shows are all but a memory.  As the band explains:

2020 has been a difficult year for us all. With our new album, “A Day at the Beach”, out in June we had planned to tour and play live for all our fans and friends but it was not to be. Still, we wanted to do something special that would keep us connected to our fans and also to say thanks for everyone’s support in these trying times. Doing this acoustic session allowed us to revisit songs from the new album and a few old ones as well. A new challenge for sure but a fun and inspiring experience.

“A Day in the Studio” was recorded at the Subsonic Society Studio in Oslo, Norway, and can be seen below.

Mixed by Vegard Kleftås Sleipnes and filmed by Eirik Stordrange, tracklisting for “A Day in the Studio” is as follows:

Machines and Men (A Day at the Beach)
Sunsets (A Day at the Beach)
Into the Unknown (A Day at the Beach)
Come on In (Unreleased)

There are also plans to release DVD of “A Day in the Studio” in the near future.

In addition, Karisma Records plan to release the entire “A Day in the Studio” set, along with two extra bonus tracks, in CD, Vinyl and Digital formats in the Autumn of this year. The two bonus tracks will be “Colours” and “Sounds That I Hear” from AIRBAG’s 2009 album “Identity” .

A new version of “Identity” itself will be released in vinyl format, and Karisma records will be announcing details of this, along with more details about the “A Day in the Studio” release,  in the near future.

Hailed as one of the most important bands to emerge from the Norwegian prog scene over the past decades, AIRBAG  was formed in the mid 2000’s with a lineup that comprised five high school class mates, two of whom,  Asle Tostrup on vocals and Bjørn Riis on guitars, have been joined by  Henrik Bergan Fossum on drums and form today’s incarnation of AIRBAG as a trio.

AIRBAG is band adept at blending diverse musical styles and sounds with a strong narrative listening experience and you can find more  information about them on the band’s website at http://www.airbagsound.com/  or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/airbagsound
