With the release of their ninth album, The Unyielding Season, out now via Napalm Records, UK’s black metal legends WINTERFYLLETH unleash the title track as the third single. “The Unyielding Season” captures the overarching theme of the album: the song is a reflection of the current state of the world wrapped in raging, yet refined atmospheric black metal, guiding the way to a worthy follow up to 2024’s celebrated predecessor The Imperious Horizon.

WINTERFYLLETH’s ninth album is a social commentary wrapped in meticulously crafted poetry and prose. Where the preceding album described an ominous, malevolent force, lurking in the distance, The Unyielding Season now explores said threat becoming a reality.

Chris Naughton on “The Unyielding Season”:
“‘The Unyielding Season’ – the song that puts music and emotion to the album concept as a whole. A beautiful, haunting and reflective track that tries to capture the weight and gravity of the current social circumstances we are living through in the world. It shares its concept with that of the wider album, and essentially tries to be a voice of the people against the tide of pressures in the world.”

WINTERFYLLETH about the new album:
“2026 marks a year of big changes for WINTERFYLLETH! A new label, a new member, a new album, and the landmark of 20 years making music together. We are enthused by what this new chapter will bring, and as a result, we are now able to share our ninth album, The Unyielding Season, with the world. It is also a powerful and virulent first output, through which we seal our new collaboration with Napalm Records.

In many ways, the new album is a reflection on – and a rebellion against – the turmoil’s and fears that are tearing the lives of many individuals apart. It is a cry against the unsustainable & constant weight of malevolence and pressure being pushed into the world by agents of an un-resting and unyielding force for evil. We hope the album resonates with you, stirs your soul, and gives you a source for hope. But, we also hope it makes you ask questions of your own circumstances and gives you pause to consider the unnerving state of the world we all share.”

Order your copy of The Unyielding Season NOW

“Heroes Of A Hundred Fields” is the first revolt on their ten-song manifesto, describing brave minds joining forces against a common oppressor to fight for their freedom.  The song unfolds in marvellous grandeur as chants of “Rebellions beacons now alight”, ring out against a tide of evil. With “Echoes In The After”, WINTERFYLLETH delivers a striking epic: adapted from a poem by Sir Philip Sidney’s late 16th-century romance “The Countess Of Pembroke’s Arcadia”, the track was written as a reaction to the felling of the famous ‘Robin Hood’ tree at Sycamore Gap on Hadrian’s Wall, in the North East of the UK. The following track, “A Hollow Existence”, opens up with galloping drums and explodes into equally aggressive and atmospheric black metal fireworks. The band’s trademark sound continues throughout “Perdition’s Flame” into the album’s title track, a powerful observation of our world’s current situation and a voice for those silenced by its hostility.

Atmospheric masters WINTERFYLLETH then pause their rage, making room for “Unspoken Elegy”, an acoustic guitar-driven instrumental enriched by equally hopeful and menacing cello melodies—a hauntingly beautiful illustration of the dichotomy within The Unyielding Season. “In Ashen Wake” takes up the perilous undertone, taking its time before unveiling itself as another highly melodic black metal saga. “Toward Elysium” expands on that with a strong, old-school-inspired guitar riff, thrilling and catchy. Following another instrumental, the beautifully structured “Where Dreams Once Grew”, WINTERFYLLETH end the album running order with a bonus track, a cover of fellow Brits Paradise Lost’s “Enchantment”, originally released as the opening track on their 1995 classic Draconian Times.

ENSLAVED Reveal Two Sea Shanties ‘Fire Marengo’ & ‘Anna Lovinda’ in Collaboration with Storm Weather Shanty Choir

Photo credit: Marlene Grygo – Left to right: Grutle Kjellson (Enslaved), Ivar Bjørnson (Enslaved), Roald Kaldestad (Storm Weather Shanty Choir), Haakon Steinar Vatle (Storm Weather Shanty Choir).

Today, Norwegian progressive trailblazers Enslaved are honoured to reveal their latest creation – two unique recordings of sea shanties, made in collaboration with the Storm Weather Shanty Choir, who hail from Bergen, Norway’s great sailing ship the Statsraad Lehmkuhl.

The shanties are titled ‘Fire Marengo‘ and ‘Anna Lovinda‘. ‘Fire Marengo‘ is a traditional shanty, whilst ‘Anna Lovinda‘ was written by the late sailor and Norwegian cultural figure Erik Bye.

Enslaved explained the collaboration:

“Enslaved was formed on the western edge of Norway, where mountains fall into the sea and history is carried by wind and tide. Bergen is not simply a coastal city; it is a threshold — between land and ocean, between myth and lived experience. The sea is not scenery here. It is memory, labour, departure and return.

Among the most powerful living symbols of this heritage is Statsraad Lehmkuhl, the great Bergen tall ship that still sails the world’s oceans. Around this vessel lives and breathes the shanty tradition — songs born of rhythm, rope, salt, and collective effort. From this environment emerged Storm Weather Shanty Choir.

Our connection to the ship began in 2014, when the Tall Ships Races concluded in Bergen. We were invited to compose and perform a commissioned piece on the deck of Statsraad Lehmkuhl. Metal echoed across the harbour that evening — a meeting of ancient wind-powered technology and modern amplified ritual. It felt less like contrast and more like continuity.

Since then, a friendship has grown — particularly with Haakon Vatle, director of the ship’s foundation and one of Norway’s most devoted custodians of the shanty tradition. He often remarks that sailors were the first metalheads — people who faced elemental forces daily and answered them with song. There is truth in that. Shanties were not entertainment; they were functional incantations — rhythm as survival.

In November 2025, during the choir’s 20th anniversary concert in Bergen, we joined forces on the traditional “Fire Marengo” and the Norwegian shanty “Anna Lovinda,” written by the late sailor and cultural figure Erik Bye. The collaboration felt less like fusion and more like recognition — two expressions of the same coastal inheritance meeting at the centre.

After the performance, it was clear that this convergence should not remain ephemeral. We met again in early 2026 to record the material — not as novelty, but as continuation

Because at the centre — at mið — we find not isolation, but shared origin. Wind, rhythm, voice. The same pulse that once moved sails now moves amplifiers. The same call-and-response that coordinated labour now shapes modern ritual.

The sea remembers. And so do we.”

Never faltering, Norway’s iconic Enslaved continue to exist as one of the most original and dependable components in our scene’s indestructible backbone. Possessing the reputation as one of the most riveting live acts around, they never fail to offer us talent of the highest calibre, always doing justice to their signature black/progressive sound. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson, releasing their first demo Yggdrasill in the summer of 1992, their legendary mini-album Hordanes Land coming out in 1993, and with their debut full-length Vikingligr Veldi arriving in the spring of 1994.

Enslaved are a band in stellar form – a band at its most existentialist and self-conscious, proud Bergeners bearing the torch of their hometown’s extraordinary musical history. Their most recent material shows Enslaved at their most unleashed and thought-through – a lethal combination unfurling a potential that’s easily rekindling the furor of their early works while dancing gracefully through their most ambitious, most haunting and most musical tunes yet. A contradiction? Life itself is a contradiction. And yet we all live to prove it wrong.

Enslaved are:
Ivar Bjørnson | guitars
Grutle Kjellson | vocals
Arve ‘Ice Dale’ Isdal | guitar
Håkon Vinje | keyboards, clean vocals
Iver Sandøy | drums

Eight years after the release of their critically acclaimed album Eonian, Norwegian symphonic black metal titans DIMMU BORGIR return with a towering new opus: Grand Serpent Rising. Set for release on May 22 via Nuclear Blast Records, the album delivers thirteen punishing yet remarkably diverse tracks that reaffirm the band’s status as one of the most formidable forces in extreme music.

Shagrath comments: “I truly feel we’ve outdone ourselves musically on this album. It’s been a long and demanding process, but seeing how it all came together makes it incredibly rewarding. Grand Serpent Rising reflects every era of Dimmu Borgir – This album carries echoes of every chapter of Dimmu Borgir’s legacy – I believe our fans will recognize that, and find something within it that truly resonates.”

Even the sheer weight of the album title speaks volumes.

“It fits perfectly,” guitarist Silenoz explains. “Dimmu Borgir is a leviathan of a band on a grand scale and we are rising once again. While the serpent represents evil to some, for us it symbolizes something else: renewal, growth, knowledge, and liberation. Shedding our skin, so to speak. And let’s not forget that February 2026 marks the end of the Year of the Snake, roughly the same moment this album was completed.”

Grand Serpent Rising was recorded in Gothenburg with acclaimed producer Fredrik Nordström, whose legacy with the band includes landmark releases Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia and Death Cult Armageddon. The collaboration once again captures the band at their most expansive and ferocious, blending orchestral grandeur with unrelenting black metal intensity.

Alongside the album announcement, the band unveils a cinematic video for the track ‘Ulvgjeld & Blodsodel’. Sung in Norwegian, the song stands as a punishing epic rooted in themes of heritage and bloodline – the passing of something essential from one generation to the next.

In October 2026, two of the most influential forces in extreme metal join together for a monumental live assault: DIMMU BORGIR and BEHEMOTH will embark on the ‘In League With Satan’ Co-Headline Tour, storming across Europe and the UK. As special guests, the Swedish black metal icons Dark Funeral will add even more ferocity to an already devastating lineup.

Moonlight Haze has released a video for “Moonlight Legion”, first single taken from the new EP “Interstellar Madness” to be released on May 22 by Scarlet Records.

«We drew inspiration for “Moonlight Legion” from everything we’ve lived through over the years with the people who’ve been part of this band’s journey from day one. The energy we get from the crowd at our shows, and the constant support we feel even offstage, made us realize early on that we’re part of something truly special and unique – with this music video, we wanted to capture that feeling, showing real moments from the life we share with them. These are exciting, fun, and genuinely meaningful experiences – reminders of how much this journey is worth because of the people who are part of it, and how good it feels to live it together» – (Moonlight Haze)

JUDAS PRIEST’s “Sad Wings of Destiny” Marks 50 Years — Exciter Records to Release Anniversary Editions

March 26, 2026, marked the 50th anniversary of Sad Wings of Destiny in the US (March 23rd in the UK)—the landmark 1976 album that helped define the sound and ambition of heavy metal. Widely regarded as one of the most influential records in the genre’s history, it continues to inspire generations of musicians and fans five decades after its release.

Originally issued in March 1976, Sad Wings of Destiny captured Judas Priest at a pivotal moment, showcasing a dramatic leap in songwriting, musicianship, and sonic identity. Featuring iconic tracks including “Victim of Changes,” “The Ripper,” “Tyrant,” and “Dreamer Deceiver,” the album set a new standard for blending progressive structure with pure metal intensity.

With its twin-guitar attack, soaring vocals, and ambitious compositions, Sad Wings of Destiny became a blueprint for heavy metal’s evolution and remains one of its most important recordings.

Exciter Records and its publishing affiliate Reach Music, in partnership with Judas Priest, have acquired the master rights to the album, returning control of this foundational work to the band and its creative partners.

To commemorate the golden anniversary, Exciter Records will release special editions of Sad Wings of Destiny currently in production to celebrate its enduring legacy.

The special editions focus on creating truly definitive versions of Sad Wings of Destiny, returning to the original multitrack and master tapes. Developed in collaboration with Judas Priest, these editions deliver a new level of sonic depth, clarity, and fidelity.

The project will include newly remixed and remastered editions, following the approach established with the 50th anniversary of Rocka Rolla, alongside audiophile-quality pressings of the original album.

Judas Priest said in a statement, “Sad Wings of Destiny was a defining moment for us as a band. It’s where we really began to shape the sound and identity that would carry through everything we’ve done since. To see it recognized 50 years on—and to have it presented in new editions—is incredibly meaningful.”

Exciter Records President Michael Closter added, “We’ve returned to the original master tapes for Sad Wings of Destiny—untouched for decades—and we’re excited and honored to bring these definitive editions to fans worldwide.”

Fifty years after its arrival, Sad Wings of Destiny remains a towering achievement that helped forge the sound and spirit of heavy metal itself. Further details about the upcoming anniversary releases will be announced in the coming months.

DOEDSVANGR Release Second Track ‘Devil Bites Man’ from Upcoming Album

Black metal outfit Doedsvangr unveil the second strike from their upcoming third full-length Within The Flesh; the new single ‘Devil Bites Man’ is now streaming via Black Metal Promotions YouTube channel. The track will be available on all other digital platforms at midnight March 27.

Pre-orders for Within The Flesh are still live ahead of the album’s release on the 10th of April via Soulseller Records.

Forged in the Nordic underground, Doedsvangr have carved a singular path through the black metal landscape since their inception in 2014. Conceived by frontman Doedsadmiral as an outlet for uncompromising brutality and creative vision, the band quickly assembled a formidable lineup, drawing members from the ranks of Nordjevel and other storied acts.

The name Doedsvangr, meaning both “fields of death” and “dead womb”, serves as a fitting harbinger of the band’s sonic and thematic intent; to explore the bleakest corners of existence with unflinching honesty and raw power.

Doedsvangr’s journey began with the critically acclaimed debut Satan Ov Suns (2017), a record that seamlessly fused the atmospheres of Finnish and Norwegian black metal. In 2019, a new line-up was established, ushering in a new era of creative exploration. The following year saw the release of Serpents Ov Old, an album that deepened the band’s reputation for delivering eccentric, visceral black metal. The band’s live presence grew with a powerful release show in Oslo, joined by Blood Red Throne, Svarttjern and appearances at various festivals. In October 2022, the EP Koinonia was unleashed, further cementing their legacy.

Now, in 2026, Doedsvangr enter a new chapter with their third full-length album Within The Flesh, set for release this spring via Soulseller Records. Hailed by Doedsadmiral as their “most bizarre and raw album to date”, Within The Flesh promises a relentless journey. Unusual, eccentric, and uncompromising.

Track-list:
1. Devil Bites Man
2. Black Sun Dissolution
3. Omnipath
4. Within The Flesh
5. Blodskam
6. The Pentagram Upon My Mouth
7. Rites Of Thorns, Rise Of Flesh

Doedsvangr are:
Doedsadmiral – vocals

Shatraug – guitars
