Virginia Beach alternative metal band MAGG DYLAN have revealed a new music video for their latest single “You Oughta Know”, a stunning rendition of the Grammy-winning 90’s rock hit originally performed by Alanis Morissette. The video was directed by Eric Di Carlo and features real women (not actresses) liberating themselves from their experience of previous marriages gone bad.
“We chose this song because it is so empowering, and it gives permission to not be okay during a break-up” says lead singer Suzanne Di Iulio. “The concept of the video came about at my best friend’s birthday party. She also went through a divorce and the idea of burning her wedding dress came up in conversation. We decided it would be amazing to have a bunch of real women instead of actresses burn their wedding dresses as well, so I asked some of my friends, and they asked some of their friends, and within a few days we actually had enough volunteers who were also willing to burn their wedding dresses for the shoot! It was a very emotional shoot for all of us, especially for my best friend Jennifer who burst out into tears when she threw her veil and dress into the fire.”
Bassist Les Mosely adds “there is a lot of real, genuine emotion going on in this video. It was truly an honor that the women who participated in the video would immortalize such a very personal and emotional experience in our music video. Watching their emotional liberation from such a dark experience of their past was inspiring to say the least. Also, I never knew just how afraid of fire Suzanne is, but when it came time to face the burning barrel, she did it head-on without a glimmer of fear… I am proud of her!”

The provocative, imperious and engaging Swedish-based metal group SOEN will unveil their fifth album, ‘Imperial’, via Silver Lining Music on January 29th 2021. Founder members Joel Ekelöf (vocals) and Martin Lopez (drums), along with Lars Enok Åhlund (keyboards and guitar), Oleksii “Zlatoyar” Kobel (bass) and Cody Ford (lead guitar) have never shied away from challenging our perceptions of life and humanity, and IMPERIAL continues SOEN’s unique journey through the psyche of our species and the conundrum of our times. Eight crisp, sharp, and supremely constructed songs spanning frustration, reflection and hope, IMPERIAL is the most fierce and dynamic release of SOEN’s journey, one which continues to be deeply therapeutic for both the group’s dedicated followers and the band themselves.
Martin Lopez explains:
“In my life I try to be as real as possible, but I think that the music, and nature, of SOEN are the only place that I really, really feel I can be myself. When you’re home, doing music, writing lyrics, that is where you really get to express yourself without any judgement and with total freedom.”
Produced by Iñaki Marconi and the band, IMPERIAL was mixed and mastered by Kane Churko, who has worked with the likes of Ozzy Osbourne and Bob Dylan, giving songs such as ‘Illusion’, ‘Modesty’ and the epic closer ‘Fortune’ a dimension and richness which will reach yet more ears and minds. The sheer power and poetry of SOEN’s dynamics are more completely executed and honed than ever before, something which is perversely a product of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Martin Lopez continues:
“It has obviously been a crazy, terrible thing for everyone, and for us as a band it has been really frustrating not being able to play shows, but also it has given us a clear window of opportunity to realise this album completely. We were able to spend 12 hours a day for many months bringing IMPERIAL to the place we truly wanted, mainly working on the groove and flow of the album.”
Lead single ‘Antagonist’ storms through the gates with a massive heavy riff of intent, followed by an epic blend of strength, beauty and defiance of all the world’s darkest powermongers, captured in the lyrics ‘Dependency dampens the wild / Inequity weighs down the motion of progress / Life isn’t just to survive.’

Furthers Martin Lopez:
“We will always be a band that has the old will to fight for freedom and all the important things in life, the people, the underdog, you have to take on the big question marks such as what the fuck are we doing with our lives and where’s the empathy. Why do we keep on testing and crushing ourselves as a species?”
IMPERIAL is an album which will engage the listener immediately and sustain long after this crazy time has passed, its rich details destined to make it a classic metal album of this era.
Joel Ekelöf comments:
“As we continue, we find inspiration in the sad fact that the world is getting more and more polarized, that it’s more complex and it’s not consensus or people getting along. We continue to try and understand why and how that will affect us all.”
SOEN are an undeniable cypher for all which swirls around us, something which will continue to set them apart from their peers for years to come, and IMPERIAL is the latest potent, unmissable commentary from their journey. Symphonic power metallers WINTERAGE have signed a deal with Scarlet Records for the release of their new album ‘The Inheritance Of Beauty’.
Having previously released the critically acclaimed debut album ‘The Harmonic Passage’ (2015) and shared the stage with renowned bands such as Angra, Moonspell, Elvenking, Dark Moor and many others, Winterage are now ready to unleash their full potential and reach a broader audience with their new, ambitious effort, a powerful Symphonic metal album with strong influences coming from Irish folk, classical and medieval music. Alongside the typical rock instruments the band is known for the presence of a violin in the line-up and the use of a full orchestra and a choir during the recording process. Over 50 musicians and other professionals took part in the production of ‘The Inheritance Of Beauty’, including Tommy Talamanca (Sadist), Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth) and Vito Lo Re (Rhapsody Of Fire). Simone Coen (Chocolate Studio, Apple) mixed the album and Jacob Hansen (Amaranthe, Epica, Fleshgod Apocalypse) took care of the mastering duties. The beautiful and evocative artwork was made by Peter Sàllai (Sabaton, Hammerfall, Amon Amarth).
The band also announced the arrival of the new guitarist Gianmarco Bambini, after Riccardo and Dario Gisotti’s decision to leave. The record sees their participation as musicians and composers: the band is keen to greet them publicly, thanking them for all the music and friendship they have shared over the years, and wishes them the best for their professional career. ‘The Inheritance Of Beauty’ will be released on January 15th, 2021.
Swedish Melodic Black Metallers KVAEN have launched a lyric video for ‘Bestial Winter’ taken from their latest album ‘The Funeral Pyre’, out via Black Lion Records, watch the video below.
In late February, a sudden conflagration burst forth in Northern Sweden. That raging fire was the release of The Funeral Pyre, and it still burns hot and true. Kvaen is a new one-man project, with several guest musicians, that comes out of the gates full of vigor. Rooted in Swedish black metal, with speed and viking metal liberally sprinkled throughout, Kvaen is a force to be reckoned with. The riffing manages to combine white hot aggression with blistering melody, while the drumming is a runaway train set to explode. The vocals channel the hatred of trve black metal, while still providing a varied performance. With good reason, The Funeral Pyre has been mentioned in early Album of the Year discussions. Catch the spark!
Swedish-American power metal supergroup NORTHTALE – who entered the studio last week to record their new album – have tapped the producer DENNIS WARD (Pink Cream 69, Angra, Unisonic, Gus G, Adagio, Helloween and much, much more) to produce the bands as of yet untitled upcoming album! Los Angeles-based guitarist/songwriter Bill Hudson (NORTHTALE, I AM MORBID, former DIRKSCHNEIDER, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, Circle II Circle, Jon Oliva’s Pain and more) has become a very sought after name in the hard rock world in recent years. Whether he is in Germany headlining the biggest heavy metal festival in the world or in the studio recording guitars for a video game soundtrack, there’s never a dull moment in the life of the Brazilian musician. In the summer of 2015, he made history in Germany, headlining Wacken Open Air, performing in front of 80,000 fans with the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA. Hudson joined the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA also for their winter tour in 2015, performing 52 shows in 6 weeks throughout the US and Canada for an average of 15,000 fans a day. From April 2017 to April 2018 Bill Hudson made part of the DIRKSCHNEIDER line-up, touring widely both America and Europe.
