Reliving the Height of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal, TANK’s Classic ‘The Man Who Never Was’ Gets Its Moment in the Sun

As the 1970s faded from view and the world of post-punk rock n’roll waited to see what could possibly happen next, the London club scene was already percolating one of the most unexpected hybrids of all.

Running steadfastly against the prevalent fashions, bands like Girlschool, Iron Maiden and Def Leppard emerged with all the energy and attitude of punk, but transplanted into the realm of classic heavy metal – a new wave indeed that was destined to sweep all before it.

Of all the bands that arose, Tank were quite possibly the heaviest of them all, at the same time as they were the punkiest, too – founder member Algy Ward, after all, arrived fresh from the dynamism of The Saints and The Damned; bandmates Peter and Mark Brabbs were unknown beyond their home town of Croydon, but were the perfect foil for Ward’s wild intentions all the same.

Three albums spun out before the original line-up shattered, with the third, 1983’s This Means War, also introducing a fourth member, guitarist Mick Tucker, and a brutal two guitar frontline that sent Tank’s already formidable firepower into the stratosphere.

The only downside was, one of the new line-up’s most coruscating songs, “The Man That Never Was” didn’t even make the album. Instead (at least for now), it was tucked away as the b-side of the single “Echoes of a Distant Battle.”  Yes, a whole new line-up of the band would return to it on their next album, while it has also been restored to something approaching its rightful place among the CD bonus tracks on Cleopatra’s forthcoming reissue of This Means War (these also include the song’s demo).

At the time, though, it was all but lost.

Today, however, it steps fully into the spotlight as Tank’s latest single, its raw guitar and metronomic beat a showcase not only for the two axemen, but for Algy, too – his opening scream alone blasts the song into a whole new dimension!

Drummer Mark Brabbs recalls, “The title for ‘The Man Who Never Was’ came from a late 50’s war thriller film of the same name, except Algy sings ‘The man THAT never was’ instead of ‘…WHO never was’!

“Algy’s pre-production lyrics followed the film’s storyline, but he rerecorded the vocals on his own in the studio, and he changed quite a few of the lyrics! So whilst the title remained the same it’s doubtful, in my mind, that the lyrics still follow the film’s concept!”

Cleopatra are almost halfway through the long-awaited reissue of seven primal Tank albums, with the classic Filth Hounds of Hades and Power Of The Hunter already in the stores, and This Means War just weeks away from its October 23 release date.

Like its predecessors, the CD and vinyl releases are packed with rare photos, and detailed liner notes, while drummer Mark Brabb recalls, “We went a bit more metal than we ever had done in the past, but it was a natural progression.”

Recording in what amounted to a well-soundproofed tent on a north London industrial estate, the album was overseen by ex-Argent bassist John Verity, fresh from producing Saxon’s first album. ““I liked John’s approach,” continues Mark.   “We needed someone who could bring out the sound that we wanted… and I really liked what John did. It was refreshing for us, it was new, it was kind of ‘wow, we sound quite mainstream now,’ which was something we’d never really thought about in the past.”

Mick Tucker adds, ““Algy wanted it to sound like Rainbow Rising.  That was the thing, and that’s what we tried to do.”

They succeeded, too. But they also achieved something else, a dynamic album that today stands proud among the last truly classic LPs of the entire NWOBHM era.  And “The Man Who Never Was”… well, it was one of the movement’s last truly classic b-sides.

MOTÖRHEAD Announce 40th Anniversary Edition of “Orgasmatron” + Release Lyric Video for Title Track

MOTORHEAD PROUDLY ANNOUNCE THE 40th ANNIVERSARY EDITION OF ‘ORGASMATRON’ CELEBRATING 40 YEARS
OF A MOTÖRHEAD CLASSIC

FEATURING A BRAND-NEW REMIX OF THE LANDMARK 1986 ALBUM FROM LONGTIME COLLABORATOR CAMERON WEBB ALONGSIDE THE REMASTERED ORIGINAL RECORDING FROM BILL LASWELL

WATCH A NEW VIDEO FOR THE SONG “ORGASMATRON”
HERE PLUS PREORDERS HERE

Released in 1986, Orgasmatron featured the line-up of Lemmy, Phil Campbell, Würzel and Pete Gill. It marked a new chapter for the band, pushing further into heavier territory while retaining the speed, aggression and raw energy that had defined Motörhead from the beginning.

The album’s production was the subject of much discussion among the band and their fans, but beneath it was a formidable collection of songs. “Orgasmatron”, “Deaf Forever” and “Built For Speed” became key parts of the Motörhead live repertoire, while the album’s combination of hard rock, heavy metal and punk influences gave it a character all of its own. Four decades on, Orgasmatron has taken its place as one of the most distinctive and respected records in the Motörhead catalogue.

Now, 40 years after its original release, Orgasmatron is revisited in a new anniversary edition that explores both the album itself and the story behind its creation. The original studio recordings have been remastered for the anniversary and cut at half speed from the original tapes, while longtime Motörhead collaborator Cameron Webb has created a brand-new remix and remaster from the original stems.

The Motörhead team explain: “‘Orgasmatron’ is a special album. Part of that is down to the stylized production of Bill Laswell, who approached the work from a unique perspective. Bill’s work stands in its own right as something special in the Motörhead library, and Orgasmatron stands as one hell of an album. However, there was some controversy in the sense that both Lemmy and Phil Campbell felt that some of the power, bite and energy had been lost in Laswell’s final delivery.”

“As old-school Motörhead fans, we found ourselves sitting around the coffee table one night several months ago, drinks in hand, pondering what ‘Orgasmatron’ would sound like if it were to be remixed by Motörhead’s longtime producer, Cameron Webb. Cameron helmed six studio albums, and it’s fair to say he had the trust, love — and grumbles too! — of Lem, Phil and Mikkey. Would it be ‘right’ to ask him if he wanted a crack at remixing ‘Orgasmatron’? Would it be disrespecting the original album if we were to offer such a thing alongside Bill’s original work? We concluded a big fat ‘no’! It would be an added adventure if people wanted to take it. So we asked Cameron if he was up for it. And he screamed a rather enthusiastic ‘yes’!”

For Cameron, the opportunity was particularly personal:

“My brother introduced me to ‘Orgasmatron’ when I was 14 years old. I heard the song and thought, ‘Is this even music?’ It was like the devil coming through my cassette tape. And I loved it. That record and Rock ’N’ Roll were my Motörhead records, so being asked to work on this is incredibly special to me. I honestly don’t know anyone in the world who would be more excited than me to do it.”

At the same time, Webb was keen to preserve the character of the original recording and acknowledge the work of producer Bill Laswell and engineer Jason Corsaro:

“I love the fact that the original is wild and a little messy. I wanted to be respectful to what Jason Corsaro and Bill Laswell created, rather than simply trying to make it sound like a modern heavy metal record. When we opened up the original 24-track tapes, you could really hear how creative they were with the sounds, particularly the drums. There’s so much character in that recording, and I wanted to preserve that.”

With the original mix in mind, Webb also approached the remix by considering what Lemmy and Phil might have wanted to hear:

“Lemmy and Phil both said they didn’t like the original mix, so I thought about what they might have asked me to do if they were sitting next to me. I tried to channel what I knew about them and their approach to recording — bringing out the bass here, defining the guitars there — while still respecting what was already there. The aim was never to replace the original, but to reveal more of what was inside it.”

The Orgasmatron (40th Anniversary Edition) will be released on November 6th via BMG. It will be available as a deluxe 3LP bookpack and 2CD, featuring the remastered original mix, the Cameron Webb Remix, additional studio rehearsals and outtakes recorded in 1985, and the complete BBC Radio 1 Friday Rock Show session from 1986, capturing the band during the ‘Orgasmatron’ era. The 40th anniversary edition is also available as a 1LP pressing on transparent violet vinyl, featuring the original studio album.

Few bands in progressive rock history earned a live reputation quite like Gentle Giant. Renowned for translating their astonishingly intricate studio recordings to the stage with remarkable precision, imagination and musicianship, they delivered performances that remain among the most celebrated of the era.

Front Row Center (US Dates 1975–1980) presents an extensive document of that legacy, bringing together eight CDs of rare American performances spanning the band’s classic years. From the celebrated Live At The Bicentennial concert recorded at New York’s Calderone Concert Hall in July 1976, through the acclaimed Playing The Fool touring period of 1977, to a powerful 1980 performance from Atlanta and the superb Capitol Studios recordings from 1975, this collection captures Gentle Giant at every stage of their evolution as a live band.

Across these recordings, the group’s extraordinary interplay, multi-instrumental virtuosity and fearless arrangements are showcased in full, featuring definitive performances of classics including Free Hand, Proclamation, On Reflection, The Advent Of Panurge, Just The Same, Playing The Game, The Face, Funny Ways, Knots, Memories Of Old Days, extensive Octopus excerpts and many more.

Front Row Center also includes a 60-page hardback book featuring a substantial new essay by Alan Kinsman, drawing on extensive interviews with the band to explore Gentle Giant’s unique approach to live performance, touring, musicianship and stagecraft, alongside rare photographs and memorabilia.

Expertly mastered by Peter J. Reynolds from the best available sources, Front Row Center is the most comprehensive collection yet of Gentle Giant’s remarkable US live recordings – an essential archive celebrating one of progressive rock’s most original, adventurous and accomplished live bands.

VELVET INSANE Return with First Single & Video ‘Wild In The City Tonite’ from Upcoming Album “IV”

Velvet Insane is back with the first single from upcoming album “IV” and a new booking agency!

After a period of silence from Velvet Insane, it was announced earlier this year that the band had signed a new record deal with Icons Creating Evil Art (ICEA).

This was celebrated during the summer with something of a comeback show at Kristianstad Rockfest, and shortly thereafter it was also confirmed that the renowned booking agency Continental Music Group (CMG) would be taking Velvet Insane under its wing. That these new partnerships are set to bear fruit became clear when the band kicked off their new album campaign with a triumphant performance at the annual showcase festival Live At Heart in Örebro in early September.

On the 25th of September, the wait was finally over as the first single, Wild In The City Tonite, is out – the first taste of the upcoming fourth full-length album IV, which is set for release on March 5, 2027.

The entire album was recorded and produced by rock legend Chips Kiesbye (Sator), whose CV is impressive enough to warrant a press release of its own. All songs on the album were written by the band themselves, and as the title might suggest, this first single invites you to the dance floor with a hook-heavy party anthem. From the very first notes, you’ll probably feel like throwing the TV out the window, so crank up the volume and put the champagne on ice – Velvet Insane is back with a vengeance, and they’re not asking for permission!

Wild In The City Tonite is out on the 25th of September, 2026, via Icons Creating Evil Art, along side a music video made by Emil Klinta (Who has previously worked with Ghost and The Hellacopters).

Stream the single on all major streaming services here

About the band:

Formed in Östersund, Sweden, in 2013, Velvet Insane is a high-energy rock band with a deep-rooted love for classic rock ’n’ roll, glam and hard rock. Founded by lead singer Jonas Eriksson and guitarist Jesper Lindgren, the band has released three acclaimed albums: Velvet Insane (2019), Rock ’n’ Roll Glitter Suit (2021) and High Heeled Monster (2023).

The band’s music combines raw energy, infectious melodies and a larger-than-life attitude, earning them a reputation as one of Sweden’s most exciting acts in their genre. Their last two albums were recorded at the legendary Sunlight Studios with producer Tomas Skogsberg and co-written with Sulo of Diamond Dogs.

Now, Velvet Insane is entering a new chapter with a revamped line-up, a fresh batch of songs and a new album ready to be unleashed – all written by the band themselves for the first time since their debut album. A new era is certainly here, and Velvet Insane is most definitely ready to get Wild In The CityTonite!

Wanikiya Record/Promotion Presents BLECKHORN — Viking Metal Project Feat. Magnus Rosén & Göran Edman

Posted by tarjavirmakari on September 26, 2026

Wanikiya Record/Promotion is proud to announce the promotional campaign for Dragonfire, the powerful EP by Swedish melodic heavy metal project Bleckhorn, featuring two legendary names from the Scandinavian metal scene: bassist Magnus Rosén and vocalist Göran Edman.

Originally released in 2019, Dragonfire represents the first official chapter in the story of Bleckhorn — a project built around powerful heavy metal, Scandinavian musical heritage and stories inspired by Viking mythology.

Now, through Wanikiya Record/Promotion, Dragonfire returns to the international spotlight as the first step toward a much larger chapter for Bleckhorn.

A JOURNEY THROUGH VIKING MYTHOLOGY

Bleckhorn was created by guitarist, keyboardist and songwriter Jayce Landberg, who developed the project together with bassist Magnus Rosén, best known internationally for his years with HammerFall and his extensive career as a performer and composer.

The lineup is completed by the unmistakable voice of Göran Edman, whose career includes collaborations and performances with artists such as Yngwie Malmsteen, John Norum and Brazen Abbot, alongside drummer Birger Löfman.

The result is a distinctly Scandinavian take on melodic heavy metal, combining traditional metal power with epic atmospheres and themes drawn from Norse history and mythology.

Dragonfire features four tracks:

01. Dragonfire
02. Gates of Valhalla
03. Land of Glory
04. Ragnarök

Across its four songs, the EP explores the imagery of Valhalla, Ragnarök, glory, ancient lands and the legendary world of the Vikings, creating an epic musical journey rooted in Nordic storytelling.

MAGNUS ROSÉN — A CAREER THAT NEEDS LITTLE INTRODUCTION

For metal fans around the world, the presence of Magnus Rosén immediately gives Bleckhorn a special significance.

The Swedish bassist became internationally known through his long association with HammerFall, helping establish one of Sweden’s most recognized heavy metal acts during a crucial period of its career.

Since then, Rosén has continued to build an extraordinarily active career, working across numerous musical projects and international collaborations while developing his own artistic identity.

Bleckhorn represents another side of that journey: a project strongly connected to Scandinavian culture, Viking themes and melodic heavy metal.

FROM DRAGONFIRE TO 2027

While Wanikiya Record/Promotion is now focusing its international promotional activities on Dragonfire, the story of Bleckhorn is far from over.

2027 will mark a major new chapter for the project with the release of Bleckhorn’s first full-length album.

The forthcoming album will expand the musical and conceptual world introduced with Dragonfire, bringing the project into a new phase and giving fans the opportunity to discover Bleckhorn in a much broader format.

For Wanikiya Record/Promotion, promoting Dragonfire today also means introducing international audiences to the foundations of a project that is preparing to return with new music in 2027.

BLECKHORN — THE STORY CONTINUES

With its combination of melodic heavy metal, Scandinavian identity, powerful vocals and Viking-inspired storytelling, Bleckhorn occupies a distinctive place within the modern Nordic metal landscape.

Dragonfire is the beginning.

The next chapter arrives in 2027.

Wanikiya Record/Promotion is proud to support the international promotion of Bleckhorn and to bring this powerful Swedish project to the attention of media, radio stations, webzines, playlists and metal audiences worldwide.
