IGGOR CAVALERA & SHANE EMBURY’s Split LP “Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness” Out Now

Two legendary titans of the extreme metal scene – IGGOR CAVALERA (Cavalera, Petbrick, ex-Sepultura) and SHANE EMBURY (Napalm Death, Dark Sky Burial) – join forces for a unique split album through long-running UK-based Cold Spring Records. Brooding dark ambient, industrial strength noise, and heavy synth-laden electronics, create what feels like the lost soundtrack to some dystopian fever dream on Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness.

Stream Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness HERE.

Setting the tone for this double-headed behemoth with creeping, cinematic dark ambience, IGGOR CAVALERA‘s side-long “Neon Gods” unfolds into a brutal sonic nightmare. Equal measures of dread and anguish come together with the occasional reprieve of slow, pulsating drones and almost meditative waves of static. The crescendo of harsh industrial noise with heavy death industrial vocalization is nothing short of pummeling.

CAVALERA reveals, “‘Neon Gods’ is a bit of a sonic trip, with different layers of atmospheric vibrations, from darkness to light. It’s an absolute pleasure to do this split release with Shane; I believe we share a lot of similar ideas when it comes to opening our mind to different styles of sounds”

The other half of the record, SHANE EMBURY‘s “Own Your Darkness” merges menacing, pitch-black dark ambient and hypnotic bass swells with celestial synth lines that subtly lurk around the peripheries. Rising and falling, ebbing and flowing, until finally the all-encompassing apocalyptic bleakness, the enveloping darkness, closes in around you.

EMBURY writes, “Iggor and I have been good friends for decades and this is a record very different for us both but amazing! A very interesting track to make, it was my first experiment with the Solar 42 – an excellent synth for those eternal drones of despair – and I was assisted by my longtime colleague, Russ Russell. As I journey ever onward in through my individuation it’s imperative that I own my own darkness… hence the title. We all need to strive for balance and to kindle a light in the darkness of being.”

Stream IGGOR CAVALERA and SHANE EMBURY’s Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness everywhere including Bandcamp at THIS LOCATION.

Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness is now available digitally, on CD, and on 180-gram vinyl – the latter with both Black and limited White variants – at the Cold Spring Records webshop HERE and Bandcamp HERE.

“It’s hard to believe that anyone familiar with these two giants of death metal would guess that their combined forces would result in this alien acid trip through abyssal terrors.” – Decibel Magazine

“…whether it’s a fever dream of the nightmarish kind, or one from which you never want to wake, will very much depend on your capacity for industrial-strength gloom.” – Electronic Sound Magazine

“‘Neon Gods’ follows Cavalera’s collab tapes with Vomir and Integrity’s Dwid Hellion, and its brand of noise isn’t quite that forbidding, though fair stretches of this 20-minute composition get pretty gnarly: an early strafing segment reminded me of Anthony Di Franco’s JFK project and the coda is a full-fathom blowout. Embury’s steez is more cinematic – as you might expect if you’ve heard Dark Sky Burial, though this is distinct from that – with something like a roided-up version of the Berlin School sound resulting at points and a welcome horror-synth interjection about nine minutes in.” – The Quietus

“Together, Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness create an atmosphere of relentlessness and unrest. Their layered, distorted sounds intensify over time yet give way to moments of fleeting calm. These deep, shadowy tonalities interspersed with spectral electronics only amplify the listener’s disorientation.” – Avant Music News

“Neon Gods / Own Your Darkness is probably not going to be a party-favorite with most listeners, but a good set of headphones and a willingness to let the sounds carry you away on a flight of imagination, and this split EP could well be a trip you’ll find yourself wanting to take again and again.” – The Razor’s Edge

Due to changes at their label and production delays, the release of the new album by dark rock/metal duo SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE – feat. Guido Meyer de Voltaire (Aardvarks, Misticia, ex-Bethlehem) and Yantit (Eisregen, Ewigheim, Goatfuneral) – had to be postponed to March 21, 2025. Today, the band is finally celebrating the official release of “Zweckpessimismus”, that is out now on Massacre Records!

The album is available as a 2-CD Mediabook, Ltd. Vinyl LP (2 colors: black / white), Ltd. Box Set and Digital formats, the Box Set includes the 2-CD Mediabook, a Patch, Flag and an Autograph Card. To order your favorite choice of format, visit: https://lnk.to/zweckpessimismus

SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE‘s music is not made for everyone, and certainly no light entertainment. This is for listeners who have a healthy sense of dark humor and find pleasure in tragedy.

It is an art to aptly describe one’s own lyrical outpourings without quickly sounding pathetic or even

ridiculous. There is certainly a similarity to Ewigheim here, but SCHÄDLICH & SÖHNE are much more direct and at the same time much more abstract. Or to put it a little more vaguely: total cynical negativity + the whole bitter truth = ZWECKPESSIMISMUS [Eng.: calculated pessimism (for people who can endure it)].

For the musical realization of their new album  “Zweckpessimismus”, Yantit and Guido were joined by Markus Stock both on bass and as a producer. He was also responsible for the album mix and master. Kevin Olasz contributed some additional lead and solo guitars to selected songs on the album.

Colombia’s POISON THE PREACHER Sign to Seek and Strike, Announce Debut Album “Vs The World”

Colombia’s Poison the Preacher are set to take the metal and hardcore scene by storm with their explosive crossover sound. The band have officially signed a worldwide deal with Seek and Strike Records for the release of their debut album, Vs The World, set for release on 23rd May.

Juan Pablo (vocals, guitars)states: “We are incredibly excited to be a part of the Seek and Strike family. We are proud to have the opportunity to work with these excellent professionals moving forward. We chose them because they showed a genuine interest in the band and were very like-minded individuals. We believe this is the next logical step in our career and we are sure we’ll make huge impact together.”

To give fans a glimpse of what’s to come, Poison the Preacher have released their fiery new single, ‘Sucker Punch’. The track is a high-octane anthem filled with crushing riffs, fierce energy and unrelenting intensity and features guest vocals from Chris Ramos of Dead Heat. ‘Sucker Punch’ is a powerful statement of the band’s raw, unfiltered hardcore and metal sound.

Pre-save Vs The World here: https://orcd.co/ptpvstheworld

“We first met Dead Heat at the 100% Hardcore Fest in Bogotá in 2023, and we instantly clicked,” the band recalls. “Chris’s contribution really took this song to the next level, and we couldn’t be more excited about how it turned out.”

‘Sucker Punch’ captures the essence of Vs The World, showcasing everything that defines the band, dynamic harmonies, complex time signatures, gang choruses, mosh-pit riffs and a breakdown that’s sure to get any crowd moving. “We chose this track as the lead single because it encapsulates the core of our sound,” says the band. “It perfectly represents everything we’re about, fierce attitude, intense energy, and an evolving, mature songwriting approach.”

The video for ‘Sucker Punch’ was filmed with a live audience to capture the chaotic energy of a Poison the Preacher performance. “We were blown away by how many people showed up. The vibe was wild, and it was exactly what we wanted for the video,” the band shares. “You can feel the intensity, and that’s exactly the experience we aim to deliver.”

Vs The World represents a major milestone in the band’s musical evolution and features guest appearances from members of Dead Heat and Sanguisugabogg. “This album feels like a huge leap forward for us,” says the band. “It’s the culmination of everything we’ve done up to this point. Everything fell into place, and we’ve finally developed a sound that truly represents who we are. This is us, unapologetically.”

The band’s relentless drive to push boundaries and evolve is evident throughout the album. “This record has put us in a mindset of constant improvement, experimentation, and growth,” the band notes. “We don’t want to make the same song twice. Every track on Vs The World comes from a different place. There’s something for everyone here. Whether you’re into thrash, death metal, hardcore, or something in between, we’re bringing it all together in a fresh, unique way.”

With influences from across the heavy music spectrum, Poison the Preacher refuse to be confined to a single genre. “We’re not just a thrash band with breakdowns. We’re a proud fusion of all the heavy music you love, with a perspective that challenges what you expect from a metal band.”

For those new to Poison the Preacher, the band promises that Vs The World will offer something for every fan of heavy music. “If you’re into thrash, death metal, hardcore, anything in the heavy music world, there’s a song here for you. And for our fans, you’re going to see us evolve and diversify even more. We’re not reinventing the wheel, but we’re definitely bringing something new to the table.”

POP EVIL Celebrate New Album Release with Dark New Video ‘Side Effects’

Six-time RIAA gold-certified modern rock powerhouse Pop Evil have released their eighth studio album What Remains via MNRK Heavy. The band celebrate with a new, dark video for the track ‘Side Effects’.

Listen to the full album here: https://popevil.ffm.to/whatremainsalbum

The song is an arena-ready juggernaut and boasts rueful lines such as “The world I built you tried to tear apart” and “Why did I try so hard to prove / What’s killing you is killing me too,” serving a powerful, unshielded message for anyone who has found themselves in a toxic situation and seeks the strength to break free for their own happiness and growth.

“Every action causes a reaction, a side effect,” says Kakaty. “Toxicity is a virus that spreads and kills, but liberation and healing lies in an antidote you already possess. And now is the time to take it.“

For two decades, Pop Evil frontman Leigh Kataky has needed to mine the deepest of reserves in order to drag the band up from the blue-collar grassroots of his local Michigan scene to stand proud at the top of the modern rock game. Soaring successes, bitter defeats… Leigh Kakaty has survived it all.

What Remains is the culmination and story of this journey with Pop Evil, laid bare like never before. Continuing in the recent vein of 2023’s acclaimed Skeletons, the new opus is both sonically and thematically Pop Evil‘s heaviest ever offering; a thundering collection of arena-ready modern rock and metal hits in which Kakaty opens heart, mind, and soul.

“There are a lot of issues and things that I’ve dealt with in this journey of Pop Evil that I’ve buried for a long time,” the frontman explains of this document of resilience, perseverance, and accountability.

Pop Evil were born in North Muskegon, Michigan in 2001, Kakaty drawing on the lessons of a youth first shaped not by music, but by high school basketball — leadership, team work, the drive to improve in the lonely hours put in at the gym at 5am, the will to win suppressing any fear — in order to fight tooth and nail for their break-out moment.

“I was hustling and learning every day to make my dreams come true,” Kakaty recalls of his time playing local bars and slinging early EPs out of the back of his truck. “Studying never interested me. Neither did getting a regular job. A knee injury wrecked my shot at playing sports. Music was all I wanted to do from that moment, and I didn’t give myself a backup plan. Pop Evil gave me a purpose, and a reason to get up every day. It became a crusade.“

Lipstick on the Mirror, their 2008 debut, and its follow-up, War of Angels, brought acclaim and global attention; 2013’s Onyx delivered the first of the band’’s nine No.1 singles and six RIAA-certified gold and platinum plaques, but also a period of darkness brought on by the grief of Kakaty losing his father. “I was completely lost … I had just missed the last five years with my dad, chasing this dream when I could have been with him. I didn’t know if I wanted or could do Pop Evil any more,” he says. The band’’s 2017 self-titled album, opened by the smash-hit ‘Waking Lions’ was written “pretty much to save my life” – but in turn “reminded me of the fire I have inside, and that God put me here to make music that could help people.“

It’s a mission statement enshrined in Pop Evil to this day — and which provided the spark for the genesis of What Remains.

“You’re always chasing that one song that can connect with that one person,” Kakaty says. “And that process has to start with yourself. There’s a lot of personal healing on this record, a lot of things I wanted to get out for my own mental well-being. I’m finally at a place where I can confront my demons.“

Sonically, the album is a riotous explosion of life-affirming noise; a vortex of scything riffs and gut-punch drum beats that regularly give way to Pop Evil‘s hallmark anthemic choruses.

“We set out to push boundaries” nods Kakaty. “Metal has always been a part of our DNA, but we’ve never made it such a focal point before. A lot of writing on this record has been about listening to what my soul is saying and letting the songs find their own path, rather than chasing a sound that might fit in on the radio. I think you can really hear the mood and emotion of the album’s themes in the music.”

Track-list:
1. When Bullets Miss
2. Deathwalk
3. What Remains
4. Wishful Thinking
5. Side Effects
6. Criminal

NDE’s sound is a masterful alchemy of gothic doom metal, characterized by Anne Soazig Couëdel’s ethereal, lyrical vocals that float above a landscape of crushing riffs and introspective melodies. Drawing inspiration from legends like Paradise Lost, The Gathering, Draconian, Katatonia, and Moonspell, the band crafts a sonic experience that is both visceral and vulnerable.

Their debut album, “Brief Is The Light”, is a ten-track exploration of near-death experiences and the raw, often unspoken realities of domestic violence. Each song serves as a window into profound emotional territories, challenging listeners to confront the darkness within and without.

Since their first live performance in June 2023, NDE has completed ten shows, building a reputation for emotionally intense and musically precise performances.

KING PARROT Release New Single ‘Punish The Runt’ + Announce New AU Dates

The new single from Australia’s rampaging grindcore outfit, KING PARROT is here.
“PUNISH THE RUNT” is the latest offering from the bands long-awaited new full-length,
A Young Person’s Guide to King Parrot, coming out on June 6.

The single comes after recently completing a monstrous 35 date tour through Europe and the UK with stadium dates alongside Pantera and Power Trip followed by a full European club tour with death metal pioneers Master.

Stream the single here.

KING PARROT deliver this 3rd cut “PUNISH THE RUNT” from their forthcoming new album; a hook laden auditory assault encompassing all of the elements that King Parrot fans have come to know and love in the band’s sound. Encapsulating modern grindcore elements, alongside punk rock ethos and grooving riffs in a high paced mind-melting smorgasbord; “PUNISH THE RUNT” is a true reflection of King Parrot.

After the completion of the bands successful European dates vocalist Matt Young commented on the new single “This new one is a personal favourite of mine from the upcoming record. We enjoyed putting this one together and it’s got every aspect of what the band does in it, grind, thrash, punk and even rock’n’roll elements”. It was one of the first tracks we put together in the writing sessions, we hope you all dig listening as much as we did writing.”

A Young Person’s Guide To King Parrot marks the band’s first new output in five years. A hostile and abrasive slab of sensory destroying anthems, the record features ten thoroughly crafted blasts through the psyche of this crazed Aussie quintet. Recorded at Melbourne’s Dangertone studios with engineer Luke Walton, it’s the first full-length album since 2017’s critically adored Ugly Produce offering and their first new music since 2022’s Holed Up In The Lair EP.

Applying a similar approach to the writing process of their previous records, which has been historically organic and old-school, KING PARROT adopted a new approach to the studio process. Pulling the new record together was a meticulously creative endeavour and the final product is the most complete, aggressive, and urgent the band has ever sounded.
