Interview by Kostya Aronberg
Sovetsk-based old school heavy/thrash metal band DEFORMITY was formed in 1994 from the fragments of the Soviet Union, taking their inspiration from Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Pantera. Deformity’s lyrics are telling about social problems, the future of the planet, war, love, death and more. In spite of various information about this band, at least one thing is a pure fact: these guys never change their style! Recently Metalshock Finland‘s Kostya Aronberg had a chat with Alexander Garshin (rhythm-guitar – vocal), check it out below:
1. Hello Alexander and welcome to Metal Shock Finland!
Hello, Kostya! Nice to meet you .Thank you for the invitation! I am fine and very busy ,because now a lot of work and I have to appreciate every moment. Now Deformity is working on a new album and music videos.
2. DefromitY was formed in 1994 from the fragments of the Soviet Union, and since then it has became one of the most popular bands in Kaliningrad region. Can you tell us more about the early days?
The band was found in 1994. During these years the hard style of music was very popular. At the moment of formation of the band, the guys played in the style of melodic death. Everyone was young and full of strength and energy and it helped to write heavy style and dynamic songs. In 2000 not only the membership of the band was changed but also its creative leader. If before 2000 the founder of the band – Nikulin Vladimir (lead) – did the creative work, after 2000 till this day Garshin Alexander (rhythm-guitar – vocal) is responsible for it.
3. The band plays Trash/Heavy metal. Why did you choose these 2 styles and decide to combine them together?
We wanted to create fast, technical, aggressive and at the same time not heavy music and as a result we came to this style of music.
