Noble PR have released the news that Zakk Wylde has today announced that a brand new BLACK LABEL SOCIETY studio album “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” will be released in Europe on April 7th 2014 via Mascot Label Group.
Mascot Label Group are honoured to welcome the band to the label, having recently signed BLS exclusively for European territory. The band will join, amongst others, Joe Bonamassa, Volbeat, Gov’t Mule, Beth Hart, Vandenberg’s MoonKings, Black Country Communion and Kenny Wayne Shepherd on the Rotterdam-based record company’s roster.
“Catacombs of the Black Vatican” is Black Label Society’s first new studio album since 2009’s “The Order of the Black”, which debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.
Since their late nineties inception, Black Label Society, formed by guitar legend Zakk Wylde, has been at the forefront of their genre. Their taste for hard riffs and blazing solos has resulted in a slew of hugely successful albums and a reputation as one of the most powerful live bands of their generation.
Zakk Wylde, who has been called one of the true guitar heroes in modern history, served as Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist for over 20 years, in addition to his work with BLS. This collaboration led to a string of multi-platinum albums, including Osbourne’s biggest selling “No More Tears,” for which Wylde wrote all the music.
Bestowed with such accolades as “Metal Guru” from the recently held Classic Rock awards in the UK, “Golden God” by Metal Hammer and the “Best Guitarist” Award from Revolver Magazine, Wylde has proven time and time again that his songwriting, guitar prowess, and on-stage persona, along with his larger-than-life personality, have made him a force to be reckoned with.
Lizzy Borden guitarist Dario Lorina has left the band to join Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society, they’ve confirmed.
Moving on: Lorina, right, with Lizzy Borden
The job became available after co-founding guitarist Nick Catanese – known as the “The Evil Twin” for his chemistry with Wylde – left amicably last month.
Shock-rocker Borden says in a statement: “We’re extremely proud and happy for Dario on being selected.
“It’s been an amazing ride performing all around the world with him. He’s an incredible blues-driven artistic guitarist, adding so much to the Borden sound.
“It was a privilege for me to have him on my left side for the last four years. I know Zakk, his band and their fans are going to love Dario as we all do.
“He will always be one of us and we wish him all the luck in the world.”
Lorina, who’s just 23, joined Lizzy Borden in 2009 after the departure of Ira Black. He’s been called “a young Paul Gilbert” by Mr Big’s Eric Martin while Motorhead axeman Phil Campbell said of him: “He never ceases to amaze me every time we jam.”
Wylde stopped the show during the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour in November when he played an emotional piano solo, ahead of being given the Metal Guru award.
According to Sliptrick Records, Noveber the 27th will see CYCLE OF PAIN unleashing their brand of groovy, funk influenced heavy rock. Also a video featuring Don Jamieson from ‘That metal show’ is currently under production.
Cycle of Pain current line-up features:
John “JD” Deservio (Bass)
Joe Taylor (Lead Guitar)
Gregg Locascio (Vox, Guitar)
Bob Pantella (Drums)
Troy Cromwell (Keys)
John J.D. DeServio’s career as a bassist can be defined only as formidable and impressive. His time spent with Black Label Society has taken him around the world and made him a sought after bassist for clinics from Japan to South America and back. But long before he began globetrotting J.D. started out like most accomplished musicians, in the garage with a band and whiskey. 25 years later, that same band has emerged as Cycle of Pain with an intense and diverse self titled hard rock album.
At 15 years old, J.D. began practicing his favorite Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, and Scorpions tunes with good friends Joe Taylor (Guitar) and Gregg Locascio (Drums/Vocals). Despite the many high profile moments in their careers (Lita Ford, Vinnie Moore, Drill, Rich Kotzen, BLS, and many more), the old band has always aspired to record and tour together.
In 2009 they made that dream come true, releasing the self titled Cycle of pain cd on Reform records. The band had music on American TV shows; Sons of anarchy, Burn notice and many more, as well touring with the likes of BLS, Sevendust, and Shinedown. They also received “The Doobie Award” from High Times magazine.
And now after several years they will be releasing their second endeavor on Sliptrick records out of Italy. The first EP is due out this summer.
Though rooted in metal, COP’s first album delved into elements of funk, hip-hop and soul. Cycle Of Pain (the album) also features performances by Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy), Ray Luzier (Korn) Brian Tichy (Billy Idol), Sen Dog (Cypress Hill), Russ-T Cobb, Hugo Ferreira (Tantric), Marcus Ratzenboeck (Tantric), Clip Payne (P-funk), Burton C Bell (Ascension of Watchers, Fear Factory) & Russell Allen (Symphony X) and Rich Monica (Tantric) on drums.
