Heavy music hub Loudwire has just shared a new version of an old DEATH favorite – ‘Baptized In Blood,’ taken from the forthcoming reissue of “Scream Bloody Gore” (out May 20th via Relapse). Loudwire commented on the newly revamped song,
“From the first note, the remastered presence is immediately felt with a more lumbering bass tone brought up in the mix. Warmer guitar tones come into play as well, still emanating the same eerie effects that were first heard nearly three decades ago. Chuck Schuldiner positively shreds his throat with a spirit-crushing, piercing shriek over the plodding cords and with reckless abandon, Chris Reifert (Autopsy) man-handles the song with manic tempo swings.”
The remastered version of “Zombie Ritual” can also be streamed here:

Info/Bio:
Over the course of more than a decade and seven increasingly accomplished albums, Chuck Schuldiner, the architect behind the ubiquitous DEATH, became a bona fide heavy metal icon. Now widely recognized as the father of death metal (if a single candidate must be chosen, his résumé is about as good as it gets), Schuldiner‘s singular drive and ruthless creative vision guaranteed that DEATH would ever represent the cutting edge of the style’s development. Indeed, while the savagely raw aggression contained in DEATH‘s first three albums proved crucial to spearheading the first generation of death metal bands, the astounding musicianship and increasingly sophisticated songwriting found on their later-day efforts surely influenced even more groups to explore the limits of extreme metal’s most progressive outposts. By all accounts a force to be reckoned with on-stage, DEATH also logged more frequent flier miles than perhaps any other band of their ilk, undertaking numerous far-reaching tours despite suffering from continuous and often acrimonious musician turnover within their ranks. Throughout this long journey and drastic evolutionary curve, Schuldiner was to be the only constant, the effective mastermind behind DEATH‘s continually groundbreaking career, and, as proven by his near-canonization at the time of his untimely passing, arguably unequalled in stature within one of rock’s most uncompromising style.

Eric Greif, former manager of DEATH announced last night, Tuesday 24th March, via the band’s official Facebook page that former bass player Scott Clendenin has passed away.
“With a sense of shock I’m letting all of you know of the passing today of former DEATH bassist Scott Clendenin. Scott had some health challenges in the last few years but was optimistic about his prospects. Of course he was the skilled player on The Sound of Perseverance DEATH album, and recently participated in two DTA live runs, in 2012 and 2013, including the highlight of his acoustic guitar in a poignant rendition of Voice of the Soul. Our thoughts go out to Scott’s family at this difficult time. ERIC”
Scott played with DEATH from 1996 until their breakup in 2001. In 1997, he joined Chuck Schuldiner‘s second band CONTROL DENIED and was replaced by Steve DiGiorgio.
Recently Radioactive Metal conducted an interview with TESTAMENT bassist Steve DiGiorgio, talking about his time in DEATH and currently on the Death DTA tour. Go and check it out HERE.
Current TESTAMENT bassist Steve DiGiorgio is a legendary musical journeyman whose resume would make even the most well rounded Metal veteran’s head spin… then explode. DiGiorgio was a major player in the pioneering of both the Bay Area (SADUS) and the rising early 90s death metal scenes. Taking a working vacation from his day gig, we caught up with Mr. DiGiorgio as he was terrorizing the nation playing tribute to the late, great Chuck Schuldiner as part of the Death To All tour. We were beyond stoked to discuss his time with Chuck and DEATH, the concept of Death To All, and his extensive resume. Who’s The Man? Sorry Scottie. In our News, Views, and Tunes, we go over our regional Wacken Metal Battleand tear Facebook a new one. Horns!!
