Einar Solberg of Leprous has recently completed work on his upcoming second solo album, the follow-up to 2023’s ‘16’. Today he is pleased to reveal his first new piece of solo music since that release, in the shape of the bold & dynamic ‘Stella Mortua’, recorded alongside The Norwegian Radio Orchestra. Watch the video here:
The first live dates in support of his upcoming second solo album have also been announced, and 2026 will see him playing the following headline dates across Europe.
EINAR SOLBERG – frontman of Norwegian rock mavericks Leprous – released his debut solo album ‘16’ earlier this year. But back at the beginning of 2022, he took on an entirely different solo endeavour. For a special live streamed performance, he reinterpreted the Leprous album ‘The Congregation’ in full, just piano and voice. Now that performance will see an official audio release as ‘The Congregation Acoustic’ on the 16th February 2024.
Today he is pleased to launch the video for his special performance of the track ‘Within My Fence’.
Einar comments: “If there’s one song from our catalogue I’d make a bet that I’d never release an acoustic version of, it would be ‘Within My Fence’. Nothing about that song implies it would work as an acoustic version. To my big surprise it did, and it gave the song a whole other vibe and maybe also more depth?”
Einar comments of the release: “I’m both super excited but also kind of terrified for me to release this live version of “The Congregation”. It’s raw and unedited and exactly how I did it on my livestream. Usually all musicians these days (myself included) are used to fixIng stuff in post-production, but on this one we’ve done nothing! I think it’s cool sometimes to dare to show a more fragile and less “perfect” side of yourself. “The Congregation” is probably the least suitable album we’ve ever done to make an acoustic version of, but I think it turned out surprisingly OK!”
Einar Solberg is as renowned for the tender honesty of his lyrics as he is for the eccentric majesty of Leprous’ music. But even by his usual standards, ‘16’ is an extremely emotional and dynamic piece of work. Einar describes the record as “the closest I’ve ever come to writing a concept album” and explains that the new songs are about a very specific and transformational period in the musician’s life. This is the sound of a restless spirit in his absolute element.
’16’ finds Einar collaborating with everyone from modern prog contemporaries like Bent Knee’s Ben Levin and Agent Fresco’s Toti Gudnason, to experimental cellist (and regular Leprous live musician) Raphael Weinroth-Browne and Magnus Børmark, best known as a member of Norwegian alt-folk troupe Gåte. He also once again collaborates with Ihsahn and Star Of Ash amongst many others. The record was mixed by mixed by Adam Noble (Placebo, Biffy Clyro, Nothing But Thieves) and mastered by Robin Schmidt (The 1975, Placebo, The Gaslight Anthem, etc.). The cover artwork was designed by Elena Sihida. ‘16’ is out on Ltd CD Digipak, Gatefold 180g 2LP + LP-booklet & Digitally. Order here: https://einarsolberg-artist.lnk.to/sixteen

EINAR SOLBERG – frontman of Norwegian rock mavericks Leprous – is pleased to announce the release of his debut solo album ‘16’ on June 2nd, 2023. Wildly diverse, but spiritually rooted in Einar’s well-established musical world, ‘16’ is an album that brims with surprises and spinning curveballs and features a collection of intimate but extravagant collaborations.
Solberg has also released the video for “Grotto”, the first single to be taken from the album, a track written alongside Magnus Børmark, best known as a member of Norwegian alt-folk troupe Gåte. It also features Keli Guðjónsson (Agent Fresco) on drums, Tor Egil Kreken on bass, Raphael Weinroth-Browne (Leprous touring member) on cello & Chris Baum (Bent Knee) on violin.
Australian electro prog sensation VOYAGER have teamed up with Metal Hammer TV to premiere the stunning music video for their new single, “Entropy”, which features Einar Solberg from LEPROUS. The video, which was created by Dark Spirit Photography, can be viewed via the official Metal Hammer YouTube channel at THIS LOCATION.
An accompanying Metal Hammer feature on VOYAGER can be found at THIS LOCATION.
Vocalist Danny Estrin comments on the video: “Touring with Leprous around Europe and Australia, we became good friends with the guys – they are fantastic musicians and fantastic human beings. Einar has one of the most unique styles and grasp for vocal melodies in progressive music today and it would have been remiss of me not to ask him to guest on this track. I gave Einar free reign to do what he wanted – a risky move usually, but not with Mr Solberg. The end result is stunning – a truly catchy Voyager track with some soaring Solberg – it doesn’t get better than that!
Solberg adds: “I was super happy to participate on ‘Entropy’ with my good friends from Voyager. Very groovy stuff! Danny gave me some guidelines for vocals but I didn’t even listen to them.”
Danny continues: “I can confirm that Einar definitely didn’t listen to the reference track. #surprisevocals”
“Entropy” is taken from the band’s upcoming new album, ‘Colours in the Sun’, which is due on November 1 via Season of Mist. It can be pre-ordered HERE.
VOYAGER have previously revealed the artwork and track-list of ‘Colours in the Sun’, which can both be viewed below.
Vocalist Danny Estrin comments on the album: “Colours in the Sun is the most transcendent, layered, and effervescent album we have written and recorded. It’s poppy, but still holds weight with crunchy, powerful riffs. It’s a true reflection of Voyager – five individuals from different roots coming together and creating a unique sound under the Australian sun.”
