WISDOM AND CHAOS MUST UNITE, THE STORM WILL LINGER ON…
Enslaved’s new EP Caravans To The Outer Worlds has today been released unto the universe, alongside a beautiful video for the track Ruun II – The Epitaph. Viewers should note that the video is part two – a second part to the video which accompanied the EP title track.
A new cycle is underway, and Enslaved find themselves on a bridge between the archaic and the unmapped. Caravans To The Outer Worlds EP is a tale of departure, of leaving behind a barren and desolate world, travelling boldly into the future. There are outer worlds to go to and new havens to rebuild in, to invoke a new dawn and to defend the new world for those of Sense and Earth.

Grutle Kjellson stated, “Releasing an EP is a huge privilege, it really is. It is somehow reliving to go on a stroll away from the the album format, and take some leaps into obscurity in between two full lengths. There’s so many great and experimental EP’s in music history; Magical Mystery Tour, Garage Days Revisited, Deathcrush, The Golden Years… just to mention a very few. We hope Caravans To The Outer Worlds, our third EP in 30 years, can fascinate and inspire.”
Ivar Bjørnson stated, “This EP is an expression of the vital state Enslaved is in – the idea to create a transitory release between Utgard and what is to come next logically led to the idea of an EP. Iver’s idea of adding short intermezzos between the two main songs gave this release even more energy and depth. This EP is one that points backwards towards our early works as well as forward to a yet unknown place we seem to be heading for.”
Caravans To The Outer Worlds EP contains neck breaking riffage that points backwards to the raw beginnings of Enslaved – the title track marking an explosive lift-off with melodic breakaways and proggy slingshots onto new orbits, while the ominous Ruun II: The Epitaph takes a sombre dive into the murky and mysterious ocean of stars beyond the known. These two main pieces are framed by two intermezzos: Intermezzo I: Lönnlig. Gudlig. and Intermezzo II: The Navigator; wrapping up the main stories with respectively what came before and what is to come…
ENSLAVED are proud to announce a string of very special Norwegian tour dates, titled the ‘Big Band Tour 2021‘. Joining them this October will be fellow Bergner’s, the psychedelic rock band Shaman Elephant, who will perform twice each night! Each evening will launch with Shaman Elephant’s opening performance, followed by a unique headline event – Enslaved’s set will also feature Shaman Elephant, with a total of 9 musicians gracing the stage. Every show promises a rare setlist featuring songs that have never previously been performed live, and some new interpretations of fan-favourites.
Ivar Bjørnson commented, “We are as always moving ahead, ever trying to expand the Enslaved universe – and to challenge ourselves as a unit and as individual musicians. Some of the most exciting and learning experience come from collaborations with other artists; within all sorts of artistic expressions – sonic, visual, philosophical and so on ad infinitum.
For the Enslaved Big Band Norwegian Tour (at least that is where we start) we have invited the brilliant young Bergen band Shaman Elephant to join us on stage. We will re-arrange a broad selection from our entire catalogue for a monstrous nine-headed, two-band sea monster to perform on stage. This will be one for the chronicles!!!”

There is a desert which is very old, very dry, and very dangerous. Few have ever dared to cross it, and fewer have returned. Some say that it is a desert between places, others say that it is a desert between worlds. Those who have crossed it and returned swear that the desert is another world in itself – an astral bridge, which swallows all but the most well-prepared travelers.
Travelling by sonic pathways, Enslaved‘s new epCaravan To The Outer Worlds will set off October 1st, inviting the listener to explore the esoteric spaces which call out from just beyond the dunes.
Enslaved are seasoned voyagers. In their last venture, they descended into Utgard, deep in the dark beneath their native Norway. Now, they are preparing to set off again, not down this time, but out. They intend to cross the desert, into it and perhaps beyond it.

The latest chapter in Enslaved’s 30th anniversary voyage is coming to a close. Today, the Norwegian avant-gardists have released their full Cinematic Tour 2020 live album/DVD collection, and in celebration they have premiered a live video for ‘Homebound’, the final act in this tetralogy of exquisite audiovisual performances.
‘Homebound’ is a snapshot of a unique show, recorded in summer 2020 in Sotra, Norway, encompassing five tracks from Utgard, Enslaved’s latest studio album. Utgard saw Enslaved inhabit an esoteric space – finding themselves fueled by the pace of their black metal origins, while continuing their melodic evolution.
Iver Sandøy commented, “Ah, the live album… Some of my all time favourite albums have been concert recordings. On top of that list I’ll put Made In Japan by Deep Purple and Live After Death by Iron Maiden. As a youngster, I spent more time listening to these cassettes on my little walkman than any other album since. Both those stellar collections of career defining performances by each of those bands were, incidentally, captured for posterity by the brilliant Martin Birch. He sadly left us in August 2020, right as Enslaved were working on these virtual performances that we are now, finally, releasing properly in all the classic formats.
The classic live albums of the 70s and 80s stand as monuments to not only amazing performances by the artists, but also a celebration of the bond between them and their audiences. The parallel universe that was 2020 forced Enslaved to find other ways to honour that bond. We could not hear you scream for us from your living rooms as we performed, but these recordings stand as a testament, and indeed, a monument, to the eternal gratitude we feel towards you, our fans.”

Enslaved are also proud to announce that they will be playing at Hellfest 2022, on Friday June 24th 2022, headlining the Temple stage. For more information head to: https://hellfest.fr
The Rise of Ymir chronicles Enslaved’s debut digital show, which took place on April 1st 2020 at USF, Bergen, as part of the Verftet Online Music Festival. Norway’s progressive metal legends ENSLAVED have travelled a long way since their origins in the extreme black metal scene of the early 1990s. This week sees them premiere a new live video performance of ‘Sacred Horse‘, taken from their forthcoming package of live releases, Cinematic Tour 2020, out June 25th. For Enslaved, this performance represents a cherished career zenith, unapologetically translating their extreme metal roots into grandiose psychedelia.
‘Sacred Horse’ (live) is taken from their upcoming Cinematic Tour 2020 recording: The Rise of Ymir (Verftet Online Festival 2020). Despite being locked down in space, Enslaved take us on a tour through time, with classic tracks and fan favourites resurrected and revitalised by a formidable and accomplished live performance.
Many great bands struggle to walk the hard road between artistic evolution and staying true to themselves, but on ‘Sacred Horse‘ and The Rise of Ymir, Enslaved show how inspired composition and musicianship can bring an audience along with them, from the most abrasive depths to the most absorbing heights extreme metal has to offer.
Enslaved’s Grutle Kjellson commented, “Sacred Horse is probably one of our proudest moments in our now three-decade long career, and that song pretty much sums up what Enslaved is all about; energy. A very aggressive song, yet also dynamic and mellow. Besides, it’s always a delightful experience to perform it on stage and to see how our audience absorbs it and enjoys it. We’ve even seen people crying at the front row while playing this song, and of course beholding our fans unleashing such emotions, really lifts the whole experience to a pretty much divine level! Obviously, performing it without an audience at an online show wasn’t an easy task, but the memories of our previous endeavours playing it alongside our fans, got us through. Thanks for watching!”

Never faltering, Norway’s iconic Enslaved continue to exist as one of the most original and dependable components in our scene’s indestructible backbone. Possessing the reputation as one of the most riveting live acts around, they never fail to offer us talent of the highest calibre, always doing justice to their signature black/progressive sound. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson releasing their first demo Yggdrasillin the summer of 1992, their legendary mini-albumHordanes Land coming out in 1993 with debut full lengthVikingligr Veldiarriving in the spring of 1994.
Enslaved in 2021 is a band in stellar form, a band at its most existentialist and self-conscious, proud Bergeners bearing the torch of their hometown’s extraordinary musical history. Latest album Utgardhas shown them at a stage where simply everything they touch turns to gold. Icy black metal anthems walk hand in hand with refined prog rock gems and primordial, dark folk sorcery. It’s Enslaved to the bone. And yet again a band that cast off its old skin, delivering some of their shortest songs in years while still packing them with glimmering detail. It is a journey into and through scary Utgard, showing Enslaved both unleashed and thought-through – a lethal combination unfurling a potential that’s easily rekindling the furor of their early works while dancing gracefully through their most ambitious, most haunting and most musical tunes yet. A contradiction? Life itself is a contradiction. And yet we all live to prove it wrong.
Left-field metal luminaries ENSLAVED have revealed the next audiovisual gem taken from their forthcoming Cinematic Tour 2020 live releases. As part of their 30th anniversary revelries, the band has today premiered a live video for their single ‘Fenris’. A classic track from their early arsenal- though black metal to its core, ‘Fenris’ nevertheless hinted at their kosmische obsessions that lurked behind the curtain.
This performance of ‘Fenris’ is taken from their upcoming live release Chronicles of the Northbound (Cinematic Tour 2020), which sees Enslaved fly through a career spanning entirely fan-voted set of favourites. It is one part of their four new live album/DVD Cinematic Tour 2020 collection due to be released on June 25th.
Enslaved’s Grutle Kjellson commented, “Fenris was perhaps the first song we wrote that got a massive encore demand, and before we actually had a lot of songs to pick from, we even played it twice during a set… haha. So, since all the songs on the Chronicles of the Northbound set was handpicked and voted for by our fans, it wasn’t a big shock that the grand old wolf was among the chosen ones. Fenris has been present on many of our setlists for pretty close to 30 years now, and it is still a great song for both ourselves to perform and for the audience to absorb. It’s a very energetic song, and its lyrical concept deals with letting the energy flow naturally without trying to enslave (bish!) it. The consequences can be fatal if you keep the wolf in captivity for too long. Let loose your inner wolf, the inevitable tide, and enjoy!”
