Frontiers Music Srl announces the release of the hotly anticipated comeback album from former ANGEL singer Frank DIMINO, entitled “Old Habits Die Hard” on July 3rd in Europe and July 10th in North America.
While Frank is undoubtedly the brainchild of DIMINO, “Old Habits Die Hard” sees him collaborate with some heavyweights of the Las Vegas music scene, where he currently resides. Under the production of Paul Crook (MEAT LOAF, ANTHRAX), the album sees the participation – among others – of Oz Fox (STRYPER), Eddie Ojeda (TWISTED SISTER), Rickey Medlocke (BLACKFOOT, LYNYRD SKYNYRD), Pat Thrall (HUGHES/THRALL), Jeff Duncan (ARMORED SAINT), Jeff Labansky, former ANGEL bandmates Punky Meadows (on guitar) and Barry Brandt (who co-wrote with Frank the song “Even Now”) and many others.
Frank says, “It all started because of the relationships between Ken Ciancimino, Paul Crook, myself and the musicians that appeared on the album. I started writing songs with Oz Fox and Jeff Labansky and then Paul suggested we use John Miceli (drums) and Danny Miranda (bass) as our rhythm section and Justin Avery for keys & background vocals because of his relationship from playing with them for Meat Loaf. When the recording started, our friends wanted to be part of it and one after the other Pat Thrall, Punky Meadows, Eddie Ojeda, Rickey Medlocke and Jeff Duncan provided their amazing musicianship to the album. I feel truly honored to have had all these great musicians be a part of this project!”
Frank Dimino was the frontman for ANGEL in the second half of the 70’s. The band was discovered by KISS bass player Gene Simmons who got them signed to Casablanca Records, where they released 5 critically acclaimed studio albums and one live one. After the band’s demise, Dimino went on to work with UFO’s Paul Raymond and worked as a singer on soundtracks, scoring a Platinum album for the inclusion of his song “Seduce Me Tonight” with Cycle V on the “Flashdance” soundtrack.
“Old Habits Die Hard” is going to take many by surprise, as it is definitely not a nostalgia fest, but really a rather compelling and inspired Hard Rock release. Frank says: “I’m excited to reach new fans as well as many Angel fans. There is certainly a connection between then and now, and that is still about making a great record with great musicians!”
Frank Dimino is now back and here to stay. Look out for DIMINO live shows soon in a city near you!
“Old Habits Die Hard” tracklisting: Never Again; Rockin’ In The City; I Can’t Stop Loving You; The Rain’s About To Fall; Even Now; Tears Will Fall; Mad As Hell; Sweet Sensation; Tonight’s The Night; The Quest; Stones By The River.

A video for the new KING KOBRA song “Have A Good Time” was filmed last night (Friday, September 7) at Vamp’d in Las Vegas, Nevada. The track will be featured on the band’s next album, due in early 2013 via Frontiers Records. The song was pre-recorded and was played four times as the band shot the video.
The clip below was the second time “Have A Good Time” was played/filmed. This version features Vinnie Paul Abbott (HELLYEAH, PANTERA), comedian Carrot Top, Frank Dimino (ANGEL), and others on stage with the band.
KING KOBRA guitarist David Michael-Phillips previously stated about the band’s new material, “We’ve got a high-energy combination of the classic KING KOBRA sound mixed with some of our favorite (heavy) influences: LED ZEPPELIN, WHITESNAKE, BLUE MURDER. Cool, heavy grooves, great melodies, soulful lead vocals by Paul Shortino, infectious harmonies and hooks…blazing guitars by yours truly and the thundering rhythm section of Johnny Rod and the legendary Carmine Appice! This is the next natural progression of ‘Ready To Strike’ and our last, self-titled album, ‘King Kobra’.”
Other songtitles set to appear on the next KING KOBRA CD include “In The Night”, “Feelin’ Fine”, “Take Me Back”, “Deep River”, “Got It Comin'” and “We Go Round”.
Formed in 1984 by legendary drummer Carmine Appice (VANILLA FUDGE, ROD STEWART, OZZY OSBOURNE), Los Angeles heavy metal outfit KING KOBRA recorded two critically acclaimed albums for Capitol Records — the 1985 release “Ready To Strike” and 1986’s “Thrill Of A Lifetime”.
Along with Carmine, the band featured four relatively unknown musicians at the time — David Michael-Philips and Mick Sweda on guitar, Johnny Rod on bass and Mark Free on lead vocals. KING KOBRA toured the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico playing shows with KISS, IRON MAIDEN, QUIET RIOT, TED NUGENT, QUEENSRŸCHE and AUTOGRAPH.
The band was featured regularly on MTV and performed the theme song for the #1 1986 motion picture “Iron Eagle”. After disbanding in 1988, each member continued his career in other successful major-label groups — Carmine to BLUE MURDER (Geffen), Mark Free to UNRULY CHILD (Interscope), Mick Sweda to the BULLETBOYS (Warner Bros.), Johnny Rod to W.A.S.P. (Capitol/EMI) and David Michael-Philips to LIZZY BORDEN (Metal Blade).
The year 2010 saw the band reunite the original classic ’85 lineup, replacing original singer Mark Free (now Marcie Free) with veteran lead vocalist Paul Shortino (ROUGH CUTT, QUIET RIOT).
On August 29, “Tales From The Stage Volume 1” author Michael Toney conducted an interview with vocalist Paul Shortino (ROUGH CUTT, QUIET RIOT, KING KOBRA). You can now watch the chat below.
Brent Muscat (FASTER PUSSYCAT), Frank Dimino (ANGEL), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Jimmy Crespo (AEROSMITH), Paul Shortino (QUIET RIOT, ROUGH CUTT), Blas Elias (SLAUGHTER) and Ron Keel (KEEL) will be part of the rock star lineup for the weekly, free, two-hour rock trivia contest “Are You Smarter Than a Rock Star?”, to be held in August and September at Kiss By Monster Mini Golf, the rock and roll-themed amusement attraction based around the band KISS.
Every Tuesday, for eight weeks, contestants will compete in a rock trivia contest that will consist of three, 30-minute rounds containing 30 rock-related questions in each round. The first three rounds will be against fellow fans of rock while the fourth round will put contestants against one of rock’s very own. Breaks will be given between rounds with refreshments provided by Brew Ha Ha.
The grand finale will take place on Tuesday, September 25 in historic downtown Las Vegas at Fremont Street Experience on the 3rd Street Stage.
