Michael Schenker

Legendary guitarist Michael Schenker (UFO, Scorpions, MSG) and two of his bandmates from Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock, Herman Rarebell (ex Scorpions) and Doogie White (ex Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow) are interviewed on this week’s show. All 3 members choose songs from their current album “Spirit On A Mission”, along with tracks from previous bands.

First up, Michael tells fans what they can expect from the setlist on the band’s UK tour in January 2016 (full dates at http://www.michaelschenkerhimself.com/tour.php), and also discusses the band’s forthcoming third album, and his longterm vision for Temple of Rock. You’ll also hear Michael’s choice of a classic Scorpions song.

Doogie White then celebrates the 20th anniversary of the album he recorded with Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, “Stranger In Us All”, choosing 2 songs and looking back on how he came to join the band, giving an insight into the writing, recording and tour for the album. Doogie also pays tribute to original Rainbow vocalist Ronnie James Dio, and chooses 2 of his favourite songs from Ronnie’s tenure with the band.

The Temple of Rock triple threat concludes with drummer Herman Rarebell, who begins the first in a series of 7 interviews covering the newly released remastered reissues of 8 classic Scorpions albums on SPV Records. Herman tells how he came to join the band in 1977 and shares his memories of the recording and tours for the “Taken By Force” and “Tokyo Tapes” albums and Uli Jon Roth’s departure from the group. Herman also selects two songs from each record.

The show concludes with quickfire interviews with bands who have released some of Rich’s favourite albums of 2016; Michael Voss talks about Mad Max’s “Thunder Storm and Passion” collection of re-recorded 80s classics, Joseph Tholl from exciting new Metal band Black Trip discusses their album “Shadowline”, Grave Digger mainman Chris Boltendahl looks at their newly re-recorded compilation of 80s classics “Exhumation-The Early Years”, and heartland Rocker Melissa Etheridge drops in for a chat about her live cd/dvd/blu ray “A Little Bit of Me – Live In LA”.

Ex-SCORPIONS Drummer HERMAN RAREBELL Working With Former REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE Singer

Former SCORPIONS drummer Herman Rarebell is working with musicians from California and Brazil — including singer Gustavo Monsanto (REVOLUTION RENAISSANCE, TAKARA) — on the follow-up to Herman‘s 2010 album, “Take It As it Comes”. The new CD will issued under the moniker HERMAN RAREBELL AND THE FATAL STING.

“Take It As it Comes” — a disc of material featuring songs written by friends — was released via Dark Star Records.

In a 2010 interview with Noisecreep, Rarebell stated about his songwriting approach, “I make songs that are very commercial, so [each] could be a single. It’s a whole new thing. I think all you need is the forum to promote the music. The more people know about the song, the better chances you have. For example, if you have it in a movie, you have an edge because then people come out of the cinema, they hear the song pulsing their brain, they go home and download it. So it’s not like in the old days where the next day you go into the shop, you buy the CD and you take out the cover, you study the whole thing. It’s a completely different ballgame now.”

On the topic of his former SCORPIONS bandmates, Rarebell said, “They do very good, and I probably just think that it was time after 20 years with them just to something else, no bad blood you know. It was just like you make a decision after you’re married for 30 years and you say to your husband, ‘Look, I want to do something else in life,’ and [you] get divorced.

“Shit happens, as you say. My real life philosophy is what the song says. ‘Take it as it comes.’ There’s not much you can do about it except stay positive. Don’t look back, look forward and do something … you really want to do and live your life. It’s my philosophy. That’s why I say that with my heart fully behind it. I learned that lesson, you know?”

HERMAN RAREBELL Performs SCORPIONS Classics At Fresno State University (Video)

Former SCORPIONS drummer Herman Rarebell played several of the band’s classic songs before his drum clinic/seminar at Fresno State University on November 4, 2011. Joining Herman for the performance were local musicians Allen Woodward, Gino Castillo, Corey Whitehead and Nathaniel Dahman.
