Season ten of VH1 Classic‘s “That Metal Show” kicks off on Saturday, March 31 and featured guests include IRON MAIDEN‘s Adrian Smith (making his first appearance on the program), METALLICA‘s Lars Ulrich, MOTÖRHEAD‘s Lemmy Kilmister, Alice Cooper and former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted.
“I’ve known the MAIDEN guys for a long time and been a fan since day one,” “That Metal Show” co-host Eddie Trunk told VH1.com‘s Tuner. “They are easily one of the most requested bands to have a member of on ‘That Metal Show’. Because they are such a global band, it’s been hard to track them down, but thrilled we were able to catch up with Adrian. It will be cool because we don’t hear from him often, he’s a great guy, has a huge history with the band, and has a new side project to discuss.”
He added, “I’m so excited about the evolution of the show, having rock and metal artists, and first time and returning guests. I love all the variety and am thrilled for a huge 2012!”
Distilling decades of your favorite hard rock and heavy metal into sixty minutes of mayhem; “That Metal Show” will deliver the ever-popular “Stump The Trunk” as well as the triumphant return of “TMS Top 5” to your TV every Saturday night at 11 p.m., only on VH1 Classic.
“That Metal Show” is a production of VH1 Classic. Lee Rolontz and Keshia Williams as executive producers for VH1. Jeff Baumgardner serves as producer for the series for VH1.
Frankie DiVita from 96.7 KCAL Rocks spoke with IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain at the 2012 NAMM (National Association Of Music Merchants) convention which took place January 19-22 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
When asked about the current status of the band McBrain answered: “We’re taking some time off and we’re gonna go back out on tour sometime this year. We’re not sure yet when. It’s in the words of a very famous British singer from the Second World War called VERA LYNN. And she had a song and it went something like, ‘We’ll meet again. Don’t know where. Don’t know when.’ So that’s in the line of Vera Lynn. We’re doing a Vera Lynn. We don’t know where, we don’t know when. Iron Maiden is touring sometime this year, yeah. I don’t think it will be a world tour. Next year, maybe. But this year, it’s just gonna be a little tour; short run, short and swift.”

EMI recently announced the release of a new live Iron Maiden Blu-Ray, 2 DVD and 2 CD soundtrack album, on Monday March 26th (March 27th in North America via UMe). Check out the newly-released trailer below:
En Vivo! was filmed on April 10th, 2011 in front of over 50,000 ecstatic fans at the Estadio Nacional, Santiago during the Round The World In 66 Days leg of The Final Frontier World Tour, and captures a magnificent performance by the band, ardently embraced by the legendary Latino passion and energy of their Chilean fans. With spectacular stage backdrops, dynamic musicianship and a literally jaw-dropping appearance by Eddie, this live show encapsulates to perfection the heart and soul of Iron Maiden 2011.
Bass player and founder member Steve Harris comments: “For The Final Frontier Tour it was really important to me that we filmed in South America as we’re always so overwhelmed by the fans’ reaction when we go to that part of the world and I wanted to reflect that in the filming. After much consideration we chose the Santiago show as we felt it was one of our best performances of the entire Tour and to play at the prestigious Estadio Nacional was a landmark moment for us. For reasons known to our fans, it took a long time before we got to play our first show in Chile, and once we did get to play a show, the response was so phenomenal we just had to keep coming back and it’s got better and better each time!
This show also features the gigantic new Eddie. He wasn’t due to make his appearance until our European leg of the tour later in 2011, but we managed to transport him across the sea in a special huge container just in time for the latter end of the South American dates so it was great we were able to immortalize him for the DVD as he really has to be seen to be believed!”
The concert was filmed digitally using 22 HD cameras and an octocam (a flying camera which captures aerial crowd scenes), recorded in both stereo and 5.1 audio and mixed by Maiden’s longstanding producer Kevin “Caveman” Shirley, all of which serves to accentuate the incredible atmosphere of this compelling performance. Extensive use is made of split screens so fans can follow the individual members closer and the set list moves seamlessly between songs from Maiden’s most recent studio album, 2010’s The Final Frontier through to classic fan favourites via the band’s vast and varied catalogue (full set listing below).
DVD Disc Two is a Bonus Disc containing an 88-minute documentary, Behind The Best. This is also an entirely in-house production by Maiden’s own Krew, led by Andy Matthews, and is intended as an interesting and revealing high quality “home movie” for their fans of how to put on an Iron Maiden tour and what goes on behind the scenes at a show. It describes the extraordinary story of one of the most acclaimed and ambitious touring shows in the world. It illustrates the day to day life and complex tasks of the Maiden Killer Krew and the other characters behind the scenes. The expertise and experience, the problem-solving and successes, the sheer scale and immense difficulties of the undertaking comes to life through the day to day coverage of the tour and the background work of the crews in sound, lighting, carpentry, production and set design. As well as interviews with the Iron Maiden crew, it interweaves anecdotes from the band and their fans, and includes footage of the live show in this comprehensive guide to the intricacies of staging massive, live Stadium shows around the World out of the belly of a Boeing 757. The bonus disc also contains an extended version of the promo video ‘Satellite 15…The Final Frontier’, a video about the making of ‘Satellite 15…The Final Frontier’ plus the opening video sequence to The Final Frontier World Tour.
In addition to the Blu-Ray, the 2 DVD will initially be available as a Limited Edition double DVD in Collectors Steel book case and Double Vinyl Picture Disc. As well as a traditional 2 CD Soundtrack album, En Vivo! will also be available as a Digital Download, CD soundtrack album and Digital Download Video.
Maiden’s Final Frontier World Tour 2010-11 saw the band circumnavigating the planet for the third time in their customized Boeing 757, Ed Force One, piloted by lead singer Bruce Dickinson, and playing 98 shows in 36 countries to over 2 million fans.

Legendary singer BLAZE BAYLEY recently interviewed by Metal Blast. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Metal Blast: How do you think [your new solo album] “The King of Metal” is going to be any different from your last album?
Blaze: Well, this album is a bit more back towards my classic metal style; it’s closer to the “Silicon Messiah” and “Tenth Dimension” albums. Although I didn’t plan it that way, this is how it has worked out. So far it sounds really good, the songs have really come together and even though it’ll still be a couple of weeks until we get to the vocals, I’m really excited about it. All the demos that we’ve done, as well as the rehearsals, have been very positive.
Metal Blast: What has been your favorite moment while creating this album?
Blaze: I had an idea to do a tribute song for Ronnie James Dio, and when that actually came together, when I heard the drums play for the first time, that was really a very special moment. Dio was my inspiration to start singing, so I’m hoping that the song turns out well and that the fans enjoy it.
Metal Blast: It was a very sad time when Dio passed away, and he’s still fondly remembered. People are always making tributes and keeping his memory alive. Now, regarding this album, who’s mainly in charge of writing the lyrics and music for “The King Of Metal”?
Blaze: Well, it’s my album, so I’ve written all the lyrics and quite a bit of the music. I’ve been working very closely with a young guitar player called Thomas Zwijsen, who has co-written most of the songs, and it has worked very well. Now, the title track, “The King Of Metal”, is dedicated to the fans, because they are the real kings of metal. Without the fans, there’s no heavy metal, and I think that people trivialize that and even disrespect heavy metal fans, compared to fans of pop or jazz. I’ve called the album “The King Of Metal” as a tribute to heavy metal fans, thanks to whom it has been possible for me to have such a wonderful career and spend my life as a professional singer.
Metal Blast: Well, you’ve clearly had a lot of obstacles to overcome. Do you think that it was a big obstacle to show yourself as more than “the guy who used to sing for IRON MAIDEN?”
Blaze: Well, there’s only three people who’s been the “ex singer” of IRON MAIDEN, and one of them went back. I’m really proud that we made with IRON MAIDEN, of the albums and the music that we made. It obviously was a huge part of my life and I learned a lot. But now, when I’m touring Europe, I have a lot of fans that say that “I don’t care if I don’t hear you play IRON MAIDEN songs, there are so many of your songs that I like that it really doesn’t bother me.” So, nowadays, if I go to a country that I haven’t toured properly before, and they’re not so familiar with my own material, I do more IRON MAIDEN songs. But mostly, in the rest of Europe, I do less IRON MAIDEN songs and more of my own.
Metal Blast: It’s very good to be able to show your own work and show that Blaze Bayley is still out there, putting out albums and go on the stage. Now, I’m sorry to ask about IRON MAIDEN one more time, but there was never any clarity as to what exactly lead to your departure from the band.
Blaze: Everybody was reforming back then, BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST, DEEP PURPLE… everybody was having a reunion and IRON MAIDEN did the same. They said, “Bruce is coming back and you’re going.” It absolutely killed me. I loved being in IRON MAIDEN, and I loved singing the music and being on tour. Writing with Steve Harris was absolutely fantastic. I already had songs that I wanted to work on for another album, but that was it they just kicked me out and I had to do my own thing.
PS: As previously reported, BLACKDIAMOND of Metal Shock Finland has recently conducted an interview with BLAZE BAYLEY which will be published soon on Metal Shock Finland.

IRON MAIDEN vocalist Bruce Dickinson, who is a licensed commercial pilot, has set up a state-of the-art Boeing 737 flight simulator at London’s Heathrow Airport and is holding training sessions for members of the Iron Maiden Fan Club.
New footage from some of last month’s training sessions can now be seen below.
After the success of the first Bruce Air Flight 666 Experience, fan have another chance to fly Bruce Air in a state-of-the-art full motion 737 flight simulator with personal instruction from Bruce.
This full motion flight simulator has been purchased by Bruce and ex-Astraeus colleague Mario Fulgioni as part of their aviation business, training and checking pilots and crews from many airlines. In fact, Bruce did his own pilot training in a 737 simulator just like this one.
For those of you with good memories you might also recall that a 737 was the very first plane to bear the Bruce Air moniker when Flight 666 took its maiden voyage to Paris back in November 2003.
You will taxi the aeroplane around a major international airport, line up on the runway and perform the take off. If you’re good enough, you’ll do the landing too!
In between take off and landing, you will be shown the real performance capabilities of a modern airliner and experience the most advanced cockpit visuals.
You can book a slot and have an hour of Bruce‘s one-to-one tuition all to yourself, or you can split it between 2 or 3 of you and divide up the hour of flying time between you and your friends. Or if you just want to bring a couple of people to sit in the observers seats (directly behind the pilots seats), you can do that, too.
All participants will be given a personally signed commemorative Bruce Air Flight 666 certificate as a souvenir of their experience.
The Bruce Air Flight 666 Experience costs £666 + VAT (at 20%) for one hour of simulator time with Bruce.
In a press release that was issued in November, Bruce commented, “I can’t wait to sit in the simulator with fans and share the buzz of what it is really like to fly a modern passenger jet such as Flight 666 and all the challenges that entails.”
Bruce Dickinson has a huge passion for flying — so much so that he is a commercial airline captain and a talented originator — devising an ingenious method of converting a Boeing 757 to allow him, the band, their crew and tons of equipment to tour three times around the world in their customised plane “Ed Force One”, call sign “Flight 666”.
Not content with just entertaining fans on the ground, Bruce then instigated a series of highly acclaimed “Bruce Air Flight 666” excursions, filling the plane with fans and personally flying them to and from various IRON MAIDEN concerts around Europe.
Dickinson told CNN.com in a 2007 interview, “Aviation’s been kicking around my family for as long as I can remember; my uncle was in the RAF. But I always thought I was too stupid. I was useless at maths and majored in history at university, so I thought history majors don’t become pilots, let alone rock stars. And then our drummer learned to fly so I said if a drummer can learn to fly then anyone can.”
He added, “I never dreamed I would end up flying an airliner. I ended up flying IRON MAIDEN around on tour in a little eight-seat, pressurized, twin-engine plane. Basically we were flying round all the world’s major airports, flew across the Atlantic and back, which was quite an adventure. At the end I thought I really want to fly something bigger, but I can’t afford it — I can’t buy my own 707. If I’m going to do that I have to get a job.”
On how the thrill of piloting a 757 compares to taking to the stage with MAIDEN:
“It’s a different kind of buzz. Obviously you aren’t leaping around the flight deck yelling and screaming, but you have to manage situations… Flying at 35,000 feet is an internal thing, really. Whereas 35,000 people, that’s just showing off.”
On whether he will be hanging up his leopard-skin spandex forever:
“I could never contemplate giving up music. I have to say I’ve always been interested in planes, the only difference is I started to fly the darn things 15 years ago. I don’t see why I should give up either of them. People say ‘Why do you need a second job?’ I say ‘Why do you need to breathe?'” Source: Blabbermouth.net
