Guitarist Jimmy Page and bassist John Paul Jones will accept the award on behalf of the band. Singer Robert Plant is unable to attend the event since he has a concert scheduled the same night in Singapore.
The New York Times reported earlier in the month that LED ZEPPELIN is in negotiations with a number of subscription music services — including Spotify, Rdio and Rhapsody — for the exclusive right to stream the band’s catalog.
ZEPPELIN has sold more than 111 million albums in the United States, including 840,000 in 2012.
The band waited until 2007 to make its albums available through iTunes.
LED ZEPPELIN‘s concert film, “Celebration Day”, which is available on CD, DVD, and Blu-ray disc, sold 101,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 9 on The Billboard 200 chart. The package arrived in stores on November 19, 2012 via Swan Song/Atlantic Records.

According to The New York Times, LED ZEPPELIN are in negotiations with a number of subscription services for the right to stream “Whole Lotta Love,” “Stairway to Heaven” and the rest of the band’s classic catalog. If it does reach a deal, the band — one of the biggest-selling acts in history — could help legitimize the subscription market, which has been slow to build a large customer base.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to collaborate with Led Zeppelin to activate streaming rights for their catalog,” a spokesman for the Warner Music Group, the band’s longtime record label, said in a statement. “We’re supportive of the band’s discussions with W.M.G.’s streaming service partners to create a window of exclusivity to maximize the impact of this launch.”
Among the companies in potential competition for the exclusive rights are Spotify, Rhapsody and Rdio, along with Deezer, which began in France and is interested in the American market. Depending on which service gets the deal, the band’s presence could tip the competitive scales between them, putting a leader like Spotify far ahead or giving a needed boost to a smaller company like Rdio.
Because their catalogs are largely the same, the major subscription services compete on features like playlists and social integration, and also for exclusive content.

In a preview of Anthony Mason‘s CBS-TV “Sunday Morning” interview with the British rock band LED ZEPPELIN, singer Robert Plant addresses Mason‘s questions about a possible reunion of the group. The entire interview will air this morning (Sunday, December 16) on CBS-TV‘s “Sunday Morning”.
During LED ZEPPELIN‘s October 9 press conference at New York’s Museum Of Modern Art following the screening of “Celebration Day”, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham were respectful to the writers and reporters, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were clearly annoyed that they genuinely wanted to know if the band is considering any new work or concerts. According to The Pulse Of Radio, Page and Plant would respond to any reunion questions by staring the reporter down — Plant alternately pretended to snore and even called a reporter from The Associated Press a “schmuck” for asking about the future of LED ZEPPELIN.
Page and Plant — who, while hawking their five-year-old reunion concert CD/DVD — couldn’t be bothered to honestly answer the press, who tried gamely to play along with the fact that they were supposed to ignore the 300 pound gorilla in the room, which was that LED ZEPPELIN were right in front of them and NOT making music. At one point Page tersely answered a reporter’s reunion question. “Well, look; at this time four years ago, we’d have been rehearsing to get to the O2,” he said. “In December it’ll be five years since the O2. So, that’s a number of years that pass in between, so that seems unlikely, if there wasn’t a whisper, or a hint that we would get together to do something or other. I’d say even two years ago, or whatever. Seems pretty unlikely, that’s what I think.”
Rock writer Bill Flanagan, the editorial director MTV Networks, served as the moderator and gently coaxed Plant into finally answering the reunion question with a bit of respect for the reporters in the room. “We were so happy that we were actually gettin’ it right [coughs] and taking it beyond what we thought we were about that night,” he said. “There were moments in it where we just took off and pushed off in some place. The responsibility of doing that four nights a week for the rest of time is a different thing. ‘Cause, we’re pretty good at what we do; the tail should never wag the dog. If we’re capable of doing something in our own time that will be what will happen. So any inane questions who are from syndicated outlets [laughs], you should just really think what it takes to answer a question like that in one second, y’know? We know what we’ve got.”
