INSOMNIUM Announces Nick Cordle As Fill-In Guitarist On Upcoming North American Tour

Finnish melodic death metallers INSOMNIUM have announced Nick Cordle (SANCTUARY, ex-ARCH ENEMY, ex-ARSIS) as the fill-in guitarist for their first USA headlining tour this August. Due to his very busy work schedule, Ville Friman is not able to join the band on this run of dates, but fans can still expect the dual face-melting, guitar hero onslaught of Vanhala & Cordle every night!

Ville Friman comments: “My sincere apologies for not being able to take part in INSOMNIUM’s busy touring schedule this year. I’ve tried my best to work my way around work and band and will be doing as many shows as possible. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to take part in this run. But worry not, Nick has kindly accepted to step into my shoes and will be shredding his way into your hearts every night. In the meanwhile, I’ll be concentrating on coming up with new INSOMNIUM tunes. Hope to see you soon in North America.”

Nick Cordle adds: “It’ll be an honor and a pleasure to sit in with INSOMNIUM on this run! They’re an awesome live band and I’ll try to hold up my end of that ‘face melting guitar hero onslaught’ as promised!”

Kicking off at the Heavy MTL festival on August 9th, the tour also features OMNIUM GATHERUM as direct support. Stay tuned for details about a special tour split 7″ with INSOMNIUM and OMNIUM GATHERUM coming soon! See below for all dates.

SANCTUARY: Announce New Guitar Player Nick Cordle For European Tour

The 2014 comeback album “The Year The Sun Died” from the legendary Seattle band SANCTUARY took the metal world by storm. The four original band members Warrel Dane (vocals, ex-Nevermore), Lenny Rutledge (guitars), Jim Sheppard (bass, ex-Nevermore) and Dave Budbill (drums) proved to be still on top of the game with an album that pleased every old fan without sounding old fashioned.

Now, SANCTUARY are proud to announce the next chance to witness old and new songs live in Europe! The tour starts with a very special show in London before they join the mighty Overkill on a couple of mainland shows while finishing the trip with two headlining gigs in Greece.

The live line-up will be completed by the guitar talent of Nick Cordle. Lenny Rutledge comments: “Brad Hull has recently parted ways with Sanctuary. We are excited to welcome Nick Cordle from Arch Enemy and Arsis to the Sanctuary team. Nick is an amazing musician and we believe he will bring a fresh energy to the line-up. You can see Nick Cordle with Sanctuary this March touring Europe on the Killfest tour.”

ARCH ENEMY Performs With New Guitarist NICK CORDLE For First Time; Photos, Video Footage

Swedish/German/American extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY made their live debut with new guitarist Nick Cordle (ARSIS) this past Friday, April 13 at Shibuya Ax in Tokyo, Japan. Check out photos at Creativeman.co.jp.

Fan-filmed video footage of ARCH ENEMY‘s second-ever concert with Cordle, which took place earlier tonight (Saturday, April 14) at Yokohama Blitz in Yokohama, Japan can be seen below.

ARCH ENEMY earlier in the year amicably parted ways with guitarist Christopher Amott and replaced him with 26-year-old Cordle.

Christopher — the brother of ARCH ENEMY‘s other guitarist Michael Amott — was a member of ARCH ENEMY from 1996 to 2005 and again from 2007 to 2011.

Commented ARCH ENEMY in a statement: “We thank Christopher for the time he’s worked with the band and, of course, wish him the very best in his future endeavors. Thankfully, there is no drama behind the scenes here. This is the best way forward for all involved. Christopher simply isn’t into playing extreme metal anymore. We have already chosen and rehearsed with a new guitar player and we will complete the ‘Khaos Legions’ 2012 touring cycle as planned. We are highly motivated and look forward to continue spreading our music around the world! Finally, our deepest thanks go to the ARCH ENEMY fans, whose amazing support and belief inspires us ever onward.”

Added Michael Amott: “Nick was my first choice as he ticks all the right boxes for ARCH ENEMY with his musicality and technicality as well as his personality and dedication. [We are] looking forward to having him join us stage, the rehearsals have shown we have a devastating twin axe attack going on!”

Nick Cordle was raised in a musical family in Virginia by parents who teach classical piano and was immersed in 19th-century piano music as a child. Rachmaninoff, Brahms and Liszt are his early memories. There were piano and violin lessons from a very early age but a rebellious streak led to the guitar at the age of 10, and within a few years he discovered the classic thrash metal albums by MEGADETH, METALLICA, and SLAYER. This was his first real musical passion and gateway into extreme music.

Nick studied jazz and music theory at the University of Virginia from 2003 to 2007 but remains self taught in the ways of “shred” and metal. Shortly thereafter, he joined American death metal band ARSIS playing bass and guitar over a three-year period, performing with them on various European tours and countless gigs across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico as well as performing and writing on their most recent album, “Starve For The Devil” (2010).
