ROTTING CHRIST: New Video “For A Voice Like Thunder” Released

Greek metal masters ROTTING CHRIST have released the first video in support of their latest album, ‘Rituals’. The clip for the track “For A Voice Like Thunder” features guest vocals by Nick Holmes (PARADISE LOST), and is streaming here.

Regarding the video, ROTTING CHRIST mastermind Sakis Tolis comments:

“Dear all, we present to you our first official lyric video in support of our latest album ‘Rituals’ with pride. This song has been inspired by the poetry of William Blake and contains long forgotten but nonetheless very meaningful words, which influenced us during our writing sessions. Hopefully you will enjoy ‘For A Voice Like Thunder’ as much as we do!”

ROTTING CHRIST recently landed the Billboard Heatseekers Chart, at #14 for the release of ‘Rituals’. The band, hailed as “one of the best guitar-riff-writing bands out there to date” (No Clean Singing), is streaming ‘Rituals’ in full here..

The band’s twelfth studio album, ‘Rituals’ is regarded as “singular and unique a contribution to the development of metal as anything on the table.” (Kevin Stewart Panko, Metal Injection) and is available across multiple formats at the Season of Mist E-Shop.

Side projects or supergroups can have a limited shelf life. But when the “right time, right place” combination of artists strikes a chord with fans, the project can burn quite brightly. More often than not, the flames extinguish quickly as the main band demands start monopolizing time and energy. Sweden’s BLOODBATH remain the exception to the rule. Despite being a side project, the band remains revered and respected in the death metal scene. So much to the point that one is hard pressed to remember that Bloodbath is indeed a project on the side. We recently sat down with Nick Holmes to discuss how he became the new vocalist, how the band has maintained its high quality musical output, and if there’s any crossover audience between Bloodbath and PARADISE LOST. In ourNews, Views, and Tunes, we give mad props to Barney Greenway, go off on the Grammys, and introduce (un)black metallers THE AUTUMN LEAGUE in our Indie Spotlight. Horns!!

PARADISE LOST: Announce New Album Title And Release Date

After taking a trip back in time with the “Tragic Illusion 25 (The Rarities)” album and the last studio album “Tragic Idol” (2012) which entered the charts in over 10 European countries – most notably #2 in UK Rock Charts, #6 in Germany, #15 in Austria, #30 in France and #32 in North America Top New Artists/Heatseeker Charts, it’s now time for PARADISE LOST‘s 14th studio album. The album will be entitled “The Plague Within” and will be released via Century Media Records on June 1st, 2015 in Europe and June 2nd, 2015 in North America.

Nick Holmes comments: “We wanted to approach the new album differently this time by embracing the band’s VERY early days. We have written a very dark, yet melodic album, but this time many songs definitely have a death metal edge, which is something we haven’t done for a long long time in Paradise Lost.”

Their much anticipated 14th studio album is produced and mixed by with Jaimie Gomez Arellano from Orgone Studios in London (Ghost BC, Ulver, Cathedral, Angel Witch).

More details about the upcoming PARADISE LOST album “The Plague Within” will be revealed soon…

Sweden’s master of horror BLOODBATH is set to release its fourth album of supreme death metal, Grand Morbid Funeral, on November 18 through Peaceville Records, has unveiled a new track, “Unite in Pain”, featuring new vocalist Nick Holmes. Stream “Unite in Pain” on Soundcloud HERE.

Blakkheim (guitar) commented, “‘Unite in Pain’ is a very ‘straight to the death metal bone’ kinda song. A morbid cry out to the old school past when things were kept simple but effective. Take the legs of Slayer, the feet of Entombed, the arms of Bathory, the hands of Death and piece them together with the severed head of Bloodbath, shovel a HM-2 pedal down its throat and face the gore, once more!”

“The original lyrical content for ‘Unite in Pain’ was about the human need to wish for a peaceful death without suffering, so I tried to reverse this where only a painful end would suffice,” added Nick Holmes. “The lyrics were sent to me direct from His Unholyness, and some of the words got lost in translation from ancient Latin to American English.”

Bloodbath is a titan of death metal from Stockholm, Sweden, notable for the inclusion of Katatonia, Opeth and now Paradise Lost members. Following the departure of Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt and months of speculation and rumor, Nick Holmes was announced as the new vocalist of Bloodbath earlier this month.

Recorded once again at Ghost Ward Studios and the City of Glass Studios in Stockholm, and mixed by David Castillo, Grand Morbid Funeral is undoubtedly the the band’s darkest and dirtiest opus yet; an organic collection of filth-ridden tracks straight from the grave, boldly eschewing the approach of somewhat over-produced modern death metal in favor of something altogether more rotten to the bone.

With eerie, doom-like melodies mixed with raw and savage riffing, and featuring a number of guest appearances including Chris Reifert and Eric Cutler from U.S. gore-master, Autopsy, Grand Morbid Funeral is a new high-point of brutality for Bloodbath.

Formed in 1998 with a mutual fascination for horror and the glory days of death metal (especially the old Florida & Stockholm ‘Sunlight’ scenes), the band has remained a leading light of extreme metal since its ‘Breeding Death’ EP was unleashed back in 2000, and a formidable force for 15 years, further cemented by the devastating – and most successful album to date – The Fathomless Mastery in 2008.

Bloodbath is set to appear on a string of festivals throughout 2015, including Inferno festival (Norway), Neurotic Deathfest (The Netherlands) and Maryland Deathfest (U.S.) with more TBA.

Sweden’s masters of horror, BLOODBATH are set to release their fourth album of supreme death metal – Grand Morbid Funeral on 17th November 2014 / 18th November – USA & Canada / 21st November – Germany through Peaceville Records have finally unveiled their new vocalist.

Following the departure of Opeth’s Mikael Åkerfeldt and months of speculation and rumour Metal Hammer have revealed Paradise Lost’s Nick Holmes as the new vocalist of Bloodbath.

Blakkheim (guitars): Little did I expect to be working with the voice behind the death metal classic ‘Lost Paradise’, or the genre defining ‘Gothic’ and yet here we are decades later, fulfilling another death metal dream. With his sinister and ominous vocal delivery, it’s an absolute pleasure to make Old Nick the bell-ringer in Bloodbath’s grand morbid funeral!”

Jonas Renske (bass): “Ever since I got into ‘Lost Paradise’ back in ’90, Nick Holmes has been one of my fave growling vocalists out there. He was always audible and articulate but still deep and definitely morbid. It is a great pleasure to work with him some 25 years later after I was introduced to his thunderous roar!”

British gothic metal pioneers PARADISE LOST have announced a four-date U.K. tour to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Support on the trek will come from Italian heavy rockers LACUNA COIL.

Commented PARADISE LOST vocalist Nick Holmes: “25 years is a long time. On the surface, we may look ramshackled, but playing music for so many years has kept us young in our hearts and I truly believe that a youthful spirit is one of the greatest things you can’t buy in a pub.

“We have written many albums, played many concerts; we are older and not really any wiser, but there is a strong possibility we may play a song you thought we never would. So please come along and join the celebrations with us, including our biggest U.K. headline show to date!”

Added LACUNA COIL vocalist Cristina Scabbia: “PARADISE LOST were in between the bands that strongly influenced me as a singer, when I started my career with LACUNA COIL, so it is just awesome for me to realize we’ll share the stage with them on this upcoming tour. I am sure that the dark vibe coming from the stage will totally embrace old school and new fans making it an event you absolutely CAN’T miss! Boy, I can’t wait!!!”
