Rock icon Ozzy Osbourne is to get star billing in his native Birmingham by having a Midland Metro tram named after him, reports Bravewords.com. The city’s own Prince of Darkness will be in town to meet the tram bearing his name this Thursday, May 26th.
The Aston-born frontman of legendary Birmingham band Black Sabbath will be at the new Corporation Street stop at 11am.
Ozzy said: “It’s a great honour to have a new tram named after me, I’m proud to be a Brummie and this means so much.”
On-street driver training between Bull Street and the Stephenson Street stop outside New Street station began today (May 23) following successful work over the weekend to correct minor alignment problems on some sections of the track.
Training is scheduled to take seven days and passenger services will begin once this is successfully completed.
The tram-naming ceremony has been organised by Centro, the delivery arm of the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority (ITA).
Trams returned to the streets of Birmingham city centre for the first time in more than 60 years last December when the Metro started running to the new stop in Bull Street.
The extension is expected to boost the West Midlands economy by more than £50 million a year and create 1,300 new jobs.
According to Bravewords, Ozzy Osbourne (Black Sabbath) and Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour) invite fans to a very special announcement and event on Thursday May 12th at the Hollywood Palladium at Noon. No lineups prior to 7am. The Hollywood Palladium is located at 6215 Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles, CA. This event is free of charge.
Speculation is rampant that the pair will say something about their respective festivals, Ozzfest and Knotfest; however no official details have been leaked.
According to E! News, Ozzy Osbourne and his wife of 33 years, Sharon Osbourne, have split up. A source has told E! News that the couple mutually agreed that Ozzy would move out of their house temporarily, reported Blabbermouth.net.
The report states that the couple’s breakup is not related to Ozzy‘s sobriety. The BLACK SABBATH singer has apparently been sober for three and a quarter years.
British tabloid newspaper The Sun claims that Sharon left Ozzy after she reportedly accused the musician of having an alleged affair with a celebrity hairstylist.
Ozzy, who relapsed into drug and alcohol abuse for 18 months a few years ago, has previously credited Sharon for saving his life. “I’m alive because I’ve got a strong wife, I think,” he said. “I didn’t expect to live past 30. I remember when I was 21 saying I would be dead by 40. That was all right until I was 39½.”
Sharon discussed Ozzy‘s last relapse during an episode of her U.S. talk show “The Talk” in April 2013. She said: “Everybody knows he’s been struggling with this his entire life and I never knew that he was using prescription drugs. I knew he was drinking occasionally, but I didn’t realize to the extent.
“It’s a disease that not only hurts the person that has the disease but it hurts the family. It hurts people that love you and we’re dealing with it. We’ve dealt with worse and we will deal with it and this too shall pass. Otherwise my husband will be taken to the hospital to get my foot removed from his ass.”
As part of his recovery, Ozzy was going to daily AA meetings which he said was the only way he can stay sober. “Sharon tells me I’m a bloody fool and screams at me when I’m drinking, but that doesn’t stop me,” he told DailyMail.co.uk. “But she supports me, she knows it’s an illness, she knows it’s part of who I am and it’s only me who can deal with it and it’s because I don’t want to lose what I have with Sharon and the kids that I do it. No one else can cure an addict but the addict.”
After Ozzy was fired from BLACK SABBATH in 1979 because of substance abuse and erratic behavior, Sharon became his solo career manager, and then his girlfriend. The two were married on July 4, 1982.
The couple’s early relationship has been described as volatile, with Ozzy blacking out and almost strangling Sharon after a five-day Vodka binge in 1989.
Ozzy and Sharon have three children: Aimee, 31; Kelly, 29; and Jack, 28.
For The Metal Voice, Neil Turbin (vocalist Deathriders) caught up with singer Marq Torien of The BULLETBOYS at the Cathouse Live festival at Irvine Meadows organized by Riki Rachtman.
In the interview Marq Torien talks about the BULLETBOYS news album Elefante, why he doesn’t like the term Hair Metal or Grunge and his time playing guitar for Ozzy Osbourne replacing Brad Gillis who replaced Randy Rhodes.
If he considers the Bulletboys a Hair metal band
“No man, I just consider ourselves a hard rock band we got thrown into that mix. People that really know, know. Tesla got thrown into that mix too you know, I don’t consider them a Hair Metal band either. No disrespect I don’t like that particular wording. I don’t even like Grunge, I think Grunge is just real rock.”
On The BulletBoys new album Elefante
“We’re just very blessed and want to thank all our fans, family and friends for being so supportive of Elefante, it took a couple of years to do it and we wanted to do something different and special and take some risks. ”
On his time playing guitar with Ozzy Osbourne after the death of Randy Rhodes
“I was actually going to replace Brad Gillis, Brad Gillis had just left the band and I got hired by Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne to be the new guitar player of the band. I would say I was in the band a little over a month. I was very blessed and fortunate that a very close friend of mine one of my mentors Gregg Giuffria introduced me to Ozzy and Sharon and I got a chance to come and play at Gregg’s house and Ozzy liked the way I played and wanted me to come and see if I could work with the band. That was big time.
I was just talking with Rudy Sarzo and he was telling me, Marq at the time we were still really trying to get over Randy’s passing and I think Ozzy thought you were still too young and he wanted to get someone else for the Eurperon tour and I think they manged to get Bernie Torme.”
Ozzy Osbourne has made a response to Bill Ward‘s recent statement. You can read the response, posted on Ozzy‘s official Facebook page below:
“I never wanted to discuss this in a public forum but Bill’s statements left me no option to but to respond honestly.
Wow Bill,
What the fuck are you on about? I cannot apologize for comments or opinions I may have made about you in the press during Sabbath’s “13” album and tour– physically, you knew you were fucked. Tony, Geezer and myself didn’t think you could have done a two hour set with a drum solo every night, so we made the decision to move on. With Tony’s condition we felt that time was not on our side.
Bill, stop this smokescreen about an “unsignable contract” and let’s be honest. Deep down inside you knew you weren’t capable of doing the album and a 16 month tour. Unfortunately for you, our instincts were correct as you were in hospital several times during 2013. Your last hospitalization was for a shoulder surgery that you now say you’ve only just recovered from. This would have meant that our world tour would have been canceled. So how is all of this my fault? Stop playing the victim and be honest with yourself and our fans.
Bill, we go back a long way, let’s stop this now before it gets out of hand.
God bless you.
Love. Ozzy”
