Finnish melancholic progressive metallers AMORPHIS released their enormously successful new album »Queen Of Time«, on May 18th, 2018 through Nuclear Blast. To present their new hymns live on stage, the band is pleased to announce that they will join forces with visionary Swedish metallers SOILWORK for a European co-headline run in early 2019. The band is currently working hard on the follow-up to 2015’s hit album »The Ride Majestic« (Nuclear Blast). The trek will mark SOILWORK‘s first tour in support of their new record. As if this package wasn’t great enough, these headliners will be supported by Ukrainian modern metal outfit JINJER plus German melodic death/doom metallers NAILED TO OBSCURITY, who are working on their Nuclear Blast debut.
AMORPHIS guitarist Esa Holopainen commented, “We can’t wait to hit the European roads and take the AMORPHIS live production to the next level with the »Queen Of Time« tour. We are really happy to bring the mighty SOILWORK, JINJER and NAILED TO OBSCURITY to this tour as well. Get your tickets now, it’s gonna be a blast from the past!”
Added SOILWORK vocalist Björn “Speed” Strid, “We are very excited about touring with AMORPHIS, as the first tour for our upcoming album. AMORPHIS have been my favorite Finnish band since I was a teenager, when »Tales From The Thousand Lakes« was my daily soundtrack. Both of the bands’ unique take on metal, will create an epic cocktail, as we roll through Europe on tour together. It’s about time, I can’t wait!”
JINJER stated, “We are absolutely thrilled and honored to tour alongside two metal giants such as AMORPHIS and SOILWORK, it’s almost too good to be true! We’ll be bringing our A game and playing some new material as well. Europe, get ready because 2019 is going to get loud!”
NTO guitarist Jan-Ole Lamberti said, “We can’t wait to get back on the road again and we are very excited to be a part of this killer tour package. We are looking forward to seeing familiar faces at cities and venues that we’ve already played in the past, but also to meeting lots of new people at places and even countries we haven’t been to yet. This is going to be great!”
Swedish visionary metallers SOILWORK have entered Nordic Sound Lab studios in Skara, Sweden, to begin recording their 11th album and follow-up to 2015’s critically acclaimed “The Ride Majestic”.
The album will be the first to feature the addition of Bastian Thusgaard‘s (THE ARCANE ORDER, DAWN OF DEMISE) drumming. Thusgaard replaced longtime drummer Dirk Verbeuren in 2016, who left the band to join MEGADETH.
Thusgaard comments:“I‘m so proud of my achievements on this album. I was given a great amount of freedom both in writing and recording drum parts for it. Obviously, I wanted to honor the “drum-vibe” that has developed in the band through time. At the same time, I‘m very aware of the fact that I‘m a different drummer than my predecessors. Something I really wanted to showcase by adding my own vibe to the band‘s sound.”
Björn “Speed” Strid continues: “On this new album we have gone back to classic heavy metal basics but with a twist of our own legacy of sound, with soaring melancholic melodies at a sometimes furious tempo and great diversity. People will recognize the vibe that we’ve had on the latest 2 albums, but we feel that we’ve taken our sound even further, with more energy, darker elements but yet uplifting structure.”
The band is joined in Skara by engineer and producer Thomas “Plec” Johansson (The Panic Room). The new album is scheduled to be released in fall via Nuclear Blast Records.
Visionary Swedish musicians SOILWORK are pleased to officially announce the inclusion of their now permanent drummer, 25-year-old Bastian Thusgaard. Thusgaard has been blazing the kit for the band for the past 10 months, but will make his official debut as a permanent member of the band at their upcoming summer festival performances. See below for a full listing of dates.
Bastian Thusgaard originally joined the SOILWORK machine as their touring drummer after former full-time drummer Dirk Verbeuren‘s departure. Thusgaard began his journey as Verbeuren‘s understudy, eventually taking over touring duties for the band full-time in the summer of 2016.

In a band statement, SOILWORK says: “We are super stoked to announce Bastian Thusgaard as our permanent drummer. He’s been touring with us for quite a while and has been nothing short of amazing to work with, both on a musical level and on a personal level. Taking over after Dirk must have been pretty hard, but he has proven, time and time again, through our tours through North America, South America and Europe, that he is the perfect man for the job. Bastian is only 25 years old and already possesses such great groove and fantastic technique. We can’t wait to see, how his ability will take us to the next level while we write our next album. It will be a beast, there’s no doubt about it. We have so much left to say musically and Bastian will be the perfect drummer, to help the band evolve on our constant musical journey. Give Bastian a warm welcome everyone!”
Bastian Thusgaard adds: “First and foremost, I would like to thank Björn, Sven, David, Sylvain, Markus and everyone else involved in SOILWORK team for their very warm welcome. I want to thank Dirk for his guidance, support and ability to inspire young drummers like myself, to put in the hours needed in order to make it to this level. He is the reason that I’ve had my life’s best musical experiences during these past ten months. To the fans that I’ve already met around the world and all the wonderful people surrounding me, thank you for your great support and positive feedback. It has truly been overwhelming.
I am truly honoured to be given the opportunity to continuously work with SOILWORK, a band that I grew up listening to and one of the key elements of my musical education. I am 100% committed to SOILWORK and am looking forward to create music with my childhood heroes and to see what the future will bring. See you all on the road.”
SOILWORK continue to strive toward excellence no matter the elements that are thrown at them. With several summer festivals quickly approaching and fall just around the corner, fans will surely witness the great new chapter of the band’s legacy.
