Norwegian-based heavy metallers TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK have once again teamed up with the renowned guitarist/producer ‘Roy Z‘ (Bruce Dickinson, Judas Priest, Halford, Tribe of Gypsies).
In a short video update from the band the founder and co songwriter, ‘Trond Nicolaisen‘, enthusiastically speaks about the excitement of working with Roy:
“Hi! We have a big announcement! For the post production and mixing of our new album, ‘Black Waves’, we will continue to work with our good friend Roy Z. Roy has produced some of our all-time favourite albums with Bruce Dickinson, and has also worked with Rob Halford, Judas Priest, Helloween, Yngwie Malmsteen and also our good friends from Aria. Musically we are very much on the same page and we have high expectations that Roy will take this album to the next level. Roy will also play guitar on 5 songs on the album. Stay tuned for more news!”
Black Waves is the first recording made by the current line-up consisting of Andreas Stenseth (bass), Øystein Kvile Hanssen (guitars), Valentino Francavilla (guitars), Owe Lingvall (drums) and Tony Johannessen (vocals).
In June 2019 the band made their live debut in their own backyard at the Gressholman Festival outside Harstad.
The set list consisted of mostly tracks from their latest release, ‘A Voice Unheard’, but also presented some material from the upcoming album, ‘Black Waves’.
The latter is a concept album based on actual events from Gressholman itself, stretching from 1748 to the early 1900s. They tell the story of a brutal double murder which shook their small community in Northern Norway, and also about the once vital and important trading post which met its ultimate end in a fire centuries later.
Musically ‘Black Waves’ is said to be a continuation of what the band did on their previous album, ‘A Voice Unheard’.
The artwork was created by the very talented Slovakian artist, ‘Rado Javor’.
‘Black Waves’ track listing:
Eventide Oceans of Sadness Black Hearts and Roses in Snow Black Waves Silver Ghost Wait For The Sun Procession To Pikeholme (Instrumental) Lament of the Damned When Falls The Axe The Monument The Calm (Aria cover)
Norway’s TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK have posted a tribute video to LETHAL, feat. RIOT V Singer Todd Michael Hall. Watch video for ‘Immune’ below.
The band says:
«Talent, effort or quality don’t always decide whether a band achieves success on a large scale. It often seems almost accidental, and the cliché of being at the right place at the right time is certainly true. One of the greatest examples of this may be Kentucky-based LETHAL. Perhaps if their masterpiece ‘Programmed’ had been released 4-5 years earlier, around the same time Queensrÿche reigned with their legendary albums ‘Rage For Order’ and ‘Operation: Mindcrime’, the story might turn out differently. Because Lethal had everything needed to succeed.
Being massive fans of Lethal we decided back in 2015 to record a cover of the brilliant song ‘Immune’, intending to include it on our then upcoming album ‘A Voice Unheard’. Plans changed, like they so often do, and the recording wound up in the vaults (AKA a folder on a harddrive). We forgot about it for a few years until 2019 when the German metal magazine powermetal.de contacted us and wanted to include it on their new sampler ‘Metalliance Volume 3’.
We invited RIOT V singer Todd Michael Hall to handle those amazing vocals, while guitarist Dell Hull – of the original Lethal lineup – graciously agreed to participate. Completing the lineup for the song are the core gang from ‘A Voice Unheard’: bassist Andreas Stenseth, guitarist Øystein Kvile Hanssen and drummer Andreas Nergård. All video was recorded later, in celebration of the cover finally making its way out of its computer prison and getting released – both in physical and online form. For this release we’d like to thank our friends at powermetal.de; Frank Jaeger, Mahoni Ledl and Rüdiger Hugin Stehle. This is our tribute to a band who has inspired us greatly and given us many, many years of musical enjoyment.»
Norwegian metallers TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK have revealed the front cover illustration for a new concept album in the works, based on actual events that happened in Northern Norway anno 1748-1750; “The gruesome murders of two young Sámi men, and a trial where three local people; two men and a young girl, were sentenced to death”.
“Northern Norway, December 1748. Two Saami boys were heading home, their boat loaded with food and liquor for Christmas. The weather was awful and the seas were rough, so by necessity they pulled to shore and started dragging the boat across a sandbank. This is where they met their cruel fate.
Three local people who lived nearby came to help: Iver, a wicked man; Steffen, old and weak; and his daughter Ane, a fair-haired young beauty. The Saami people are viewed as inferior, and when Iver found the liquor he decided to take it. A fight broke out, and the Saami boys were murdered in cold blood – one knifed in the throat and the other strangled with his own scarf.
The murderers buried one boy, but the other was left on the cold stone where he fell. This would be their undoing, as he was found within days and suspicion fell upon Steffen, who lived nearby. Also, Ane was seen prancing around wearing the dead boy’s scarf. This carelessness led to their arrest, confession and harsh judgement.
“The sentence is death for each and every one of you. Thrice you shall be branded with red hot pliers; first on the place of your crime, next on route to Pikeholme, the place of execution, and lastly when you arrive. Your right hands are forfeit; they shall be hacked off. Then, after justice is served and your heads have been severed, the Night Man shall place your hands and heads on pikes and lay your bodies on stalls, there to rot as a warning to any who pass by, that we will not suffer murderers in our midst!”
After the Supreme Court upheld the sentence, the murderers were executed in the summer of 1750. For the sake of alcohol, five people had died.”
The band says: “We don’t want to give away too much about the next album yet, but since the cover artwork has already been ready for quite some time, and since we’re extremely pleased with the amazing work of our good friend Rado Javor, we can’t keep it to ourselves any longer. The picture looks super awesome! The landscape, with the sea and the mountains, is actually authentic with the view from our living room window, so it’s a bit chilling when you actually know the story and what happened only a couple of thousand meters apart from where we live. It’s a great story to write an album about, and we’re definitely having a lot of fun with it.”
The music is said to be a continuation of what the band did on A Voice Unheard, the upcoming album which was produced by Roy Z (Bruce Dickinson/Halford/Judas Priest). The band describe their music as a nice hybrid of classic metal bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Helloween.
The band says:
“It looks like the next album might be another Roy Z production. We have already introduced him for some ideas, and he was amazed by the intriguing concept. He did a killer job with the mix on A Voice Unheard, so why really change a winning formula? We’re also going to ask him to play some guitar on the album. Roy is both an amazing guitarist and song-writer, so don’t be surprised if there will also be one or two of his ideas on the album. Regarding singers, we’ll probably stick with Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear) and Tony Johannessen (Thunderbolt). These two Supermen are among the top singers in heavy metal of today, and with them only the sky is the limit.”
Some music for the next concept album has already been written and recorded, and the band are truly excited about the new songs.
The band says: “We can’t wait to start talking more about the next album, but first let’s focus 100% on the upcoming A Voice Unheard; which details about the release is just around the corner. Hang in there and thanks for being patient.”
Tomorrow’s Outlook have just recently released two teasers from the upcoming A Voice Unheard album. Both are cover songs where they are collaborating with leading members of Russia’s biggest and most famous heavy metal band, Aria. The songs are “Darkside Of Aquarius” which is off Bruce Dickinson’s fourth solo album, Accident Of Birth, from 1997 and “Slave To The Evil Force” (На Службе Силы Зла) which is off Aria’s most famous release from 1987, Hero Of Asphalt (Герой Асфальта).
Trond Nicolaisen, manager and co-songwriter of the Norwegian metal project TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK, has issued the following update:
“Late 2008/early 2009 we recorded ‘Red Sharks’ for an upcoming CRIMSON GLORY tribute album called ‘The Revenge Of Azrael’. We were asked to contribute with a track by metal maniac Lon Patello, a longtime friend of our singer Ski [Norman Kiersnowski] and also founder of the true/power metal label Metallic Arch Angel Records.
“‘The Revenge Of Azrael’ has been in the works for many years, but it will hopefully see the light of day sometime soon. Bands that are expected to appear on the CD include: CYCLOPHONIA (Norway), INNOSENSE (Greece), GRAVEN IMAGE (USA), ANARCHY X (Italy), ETERNAL WINTER (USA), FATES PROPHECY (Brazil) and HELD UNDER (USA).
“To create a buzz around the release, I asked our guitarist, Øystein K. Hanssen, if he could write a very special tribute song for [late CRIMSON GLORY singer] Midnight. Øystein loved the challenge and he took what he considered to be the essence of their albums ‘Crimson Glory’ and ‘Transcendence’ — the musical grandeur and utter lyrical madness — and created a brand new song in that spirit. He tried his very best NOT to rip off any previously existing material.
“‘Behind These Walls’ is a big production song featuring seven different singers, including Todd La Torre (CRIMSON GLORY). The other singers scheduled to appear on the track are Ida Haukland (TRIOSPHERE), Vasilis Georgiou (INNOSENSE, SUNBURST), Norman ‘Ski’ Kiersnowski (ex-DEADLY BLESSING, TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK), Mike Gorham (TOMORROW’S OUTLOOK), Kai-Joar Kristensen and Andreas Angell (CYCLOPHONIA).
“Drums for the song were laid down a few weeks ago in Trondheim Studio by Andreas Nergård. Guitars and bass will be recorded over the next few weeks in Murphy’s Cube Studio by Øystein K. Hanssen and Kristian K. Hanssen (CYCLOPHONIA). There will be uploaded some footage from the recording sessions at www.tomorrowsoutlook.com, so stay tuned!”
