ZAKK WYLDE (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, ex-OZZY OSBOURNE), Morgan Rose (SEVENDUST, CALL ME NO ONE), Kevin Martin (CANDLEBOX, THE GRACIOUS FEW), John “JD” Deservio (Black Label Society, CYCLE OF PAN) and New Yorkers, THE INFINITE STAIRCASE (pictured below) will be teaming up to write and record a song in an effort to help raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Architekt Music, the state of the art recording facility where Sevendust recently tracked ‘Black Out The Sun’ and The Infinite Staircase continue to record their new album, located in Butler, New Jersey, has, along with recording engineer Mike Ferretti, graciously agreed to donate their services to help make this project come to fruition.
The song will be released, as an iTunes exclusive, via Vanity Music Group on January 8th 2013.
Each musician involved in this project has very close ties to the New York and Jersey area, having either grown up there, having very close friends and family who currently live there, or in the cases of JD DeServio and Lenny and Jeff Cerzosie of The Infinite Staircase, still residing in the storm damaged areas.
This storm has touched the lives of so many… Everyone’s hearts are in the right place.
Heading into the studio this week, expect more details on this project and its release to be announced shortly.

Initially issued on DVD in 2006, Black Label Society’s Doom Troopin’ Live – The European Invasion, was released on Blu-Ray on August 24th via Eagle Rock Entertainment.
Doom Troopin’ Live follows Zakk Wylde on his 2005 trek around Europe, for a sold out tour supporting the Mafia album. This 16-song set in Paris is completed with extensive bonus features, including four tracks from the Astoria show in London, music videos, and “Backstage Pass” – a 50-minute documentary following BLS on the road. Originally released as a 2-DVD set, this blazing blast of heavy metal is now presented in high-def as a single disc package.
A video from the release, for the track ‘In This River’, can be seen below:
PureGrainAudio‘s Mitch Lafon conducted an interview with Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) on October 20 at Le Métropolis in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. You can now watch the chat below.
Asked about a hypothetical PANTERA reunion with him filling in for the late “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott on guitar, Zakk said, “I’m friends with all the [former PANTERA members]. Phil [Anselmo, former PANTERA singer] called me up when they did that ‘Metal Masters’ thing. [A guy] who does security with us, he came over and said, ‘Phil just wanted to say ‘Hey.’ He wanted to give you a call.’ So I said, ‘Yeah, tell Phil to call me whenever he wants.’ So I got on the phone with Phil and I was just shooting the shit with him. He goes, ‘Zakk, everyone thinks there’s a rift [between us].’ I said, ‘Phil, I get along with everybody.’ He said, ‘I wish I could talk with Vin [former PANTERA drummer and Dimebag‘s brother, Vinnie Paul Abbott]’ and this and that. So I said, ‘Dude, just pour your heart out and talk to him.'”
He added, “It’s up to the guys [if they ever want to play together again]. Put it this way: If they were, like, ‘We’re gonna do this and they asked me to play Dime‘s guitar parts, I’d be honored. I was a pallbearer for him, so he was my brother, man. And I know if he was on the side of the stage watching me play, he’d be laughing his balls off — that’s just a fact. He’d go, ‘Hey, jackass, you missed a couple of notes over here. You botched this one up,’ or whatever. He’d love every second of it. But, of course, I’d be beyond honored to do that; why wouldn’t I? But that’s a call the guys [have to] make.”
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s long-talked-about “Unblackened” DVD, which was previously scheduled to be filmed in late August at The Mayan in Los Angeles, California, will now be shot in January. The set is expected to contain stripped-down versions of some of the band’s most popular cuts. “We’re gonna do the whole thing with a four-piece string section, a pedal steel guy, and I’m gonna have some of my musician buddies sit in on some of the songs and stuff like that,” Wylde said a few months ago. “We’re gonna have two solid weeks of rehearsal and then we’re gonna knock this thing out. [It will be an] acoustic/electric type of thing. Kinda like how the Christmas record is or like how we did ‘The Song Remains Not The Same’ where you’ve got an acoustic and then you can put a rippin’ solo something. So I’ll still have the Marshalls going with the acoustic stuff. It’d be almost kinda like if PINK FLOYD was doing an unplugged thing and they did ‘Comfortably Numb’ but Dave [Gilmour] will be sitting down but he’ll still rip that solo out. It’ll still be electric and then we’ll have the string section behind it and the whole band and it’ll be killer.”
BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s “The Song Remains Not The Same” sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released on May 10, 2011 via Entertainment One Music, the offering featured unplugged versions of material from BLACK LABEL SOCIETY‘s latest album, “Order Of The Black”, as well as additional material recorded during the “Order Of The Black” sessions. “The Song Remains Not The Same” was conceived, created and compiled by Wylde himself and the title is, of course, a nod to one of Wylde‘s favorite bands, LED ZEPPELIN.
“Order Of The Black” was released in North America in August 2010 via E1 Music. The CD featured four unique covers designed by Zakk Wylde himself — one for each territory: North America, Europe, Asia and Australia/New Zealand.
Guitarist ZAKK WYLDE recently announced first signature edition guitar instruction collection, exclusively available at Guitar Centers across the country as of October 1st. Check out a new video teaser clip below:
Below you can watch the previous two teasers:
The Zakk Wylde Signature Edition Guitar Apprentice was recorded live at Wylde’s Black Vatican studio in Los Angeles, CA and features six DVDs of guitar instruction by Zakk Wylde himself including signature rhythm patterns, solo breakdowns, tones, pedals and gear. Fifteen levels of learning are provided per song.

“It’s about as thorough and comprehensive a learning tool as you’re gonna get. I wanted to make sure anyone learning guitar from me understood what it takes to play on a stage in front of thousands or in their own basement. I wish this was around when I first started playing,” said Wylde. “This ain’t no video game either,” he added.
Zakk Wylde (BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, OZZY OSBOURNE) recently announced his first signature-edition guitar instruction collection, exclusively available at Guitar Centers across the country beginning October 1.
Guitar Apprentice takes a hit guitar song and breaks it down into 15 different levels of playing. The user is playing great guitar songs with a full band, supplying only a chord or two at first. The user can then work on songs at any desired speed and when it is completed is playing 100 percent of the song — including solos. At every level, Guitar Apprentice shows the user visually, exactly what and when to play at the pace he or she desires.

Asked how the idea of an instructional set of DVDs came about, Zakk told MusicRadar.com, “The guys behind the project approached me, basically. They asked me what I thought of ‘Guitar Hero’, and I said it was awesome. Who knows — you could have the next Jimmy Page or Dimebag or Yngwie coming out of that thing. Some kid starts out on that, and eventually he says, ‘Man, I want to get a real guitar.’ That’s what you want to happen. To me, anything that promotes the guitar is good. So the guys with ‘Guitar Apprentice’ came to me and said that it would be like a game, but you’d actually learn how to play. It’s not like you’re playing with a controller or anything like that — you’re using a real guitar. I said, ‘Yeah, of course. Sounds great!’ I added a couple of songs from the new record that they wanted to do. ‘Overlord’ came up, so did ‘Crazy Horse’ and ‘Parade Of The Dead’. I performed the songs from beginning to end, and then we broke them down. When you’re playing the game, you’re learning the song. You’re learning how to play. And you learn the scales and how they connect. It’s cool.”
Zakk was also asked if he learned anything about his style in making these DVDs. “Well, no,” he replied. “You know, I know the names of the modes, the names of the scales — I know the shit that I’m playing. [laughs] I don’t just go, ‘Yeah, use this fingering…’ I know more than that. Tell me an F #, and I’ll show you all over the fingerboard where an F# is. I’ve studied theory, so I’ve got that down.”
Regarding whether he is nice and patient as a teacher, Zakk said, “Without a doubt. When I was teaching guitar back in the day, before I got the gig with Ozzy, I always liked doing it. You’d get the prize student who sinks his teeth into it and actually practices and learns the language. It’s cool when somebody takes the time to understand it. Some people grasp it naturally, and for other people it’s hard.”
The Guitar Center-exclusive version features a bonus 60 minutes of concert and interview footage including a never-before-seen prison concert and interviews from an appearance Wylde made in the U.K., interviews at the Black Vatican, a conversation with Wylde on replacing Randy Rhoads, gear talk, the story of Wylde‘s first guitar, a question-and-answer session and more.
There will be in-store promotions, including a chance to win a private lesson with Wylde — or a dream gear package featuring the same equipment Wylde uses. Fans can register by visiting their local Guitar Center and trying out the new product.
