Two-day Scream Rock Fest 2026 took Italy’s City of Flowers, Sanremo by Storm at the end of May, with pure energy dedicated to the best independent and historic bands from the Ligurian and national music scene.
The event’s organizer Steve Foglia conducted an interview with Ligurian legendary hard rockers HOLLYWOOD HEARTBREAKERS (formed in 1989), join the chat below.
Guys, welcome to Metal Shock Finland! Let’s take a brutal leap back in time: it’s 1989, Daniele is only 15, and you decide to form a hard rock band in Taggia called the Hollywood Heartbreakers. How crazy was it, back then, to try and bring the wild spirit of the Sunset Strip into the narrow alleys (caruggi) of Liguria? What was the vibe like?
Well, this great question already contains the answer within itself. It’s hard to explain the atmosphere of those days to people today, now that we have all the information possible thanks to the internet and so on. Of course, we have to remember that in those years, this kind of hard rock music was absolutely mainstream almost worldwide. It was heavily present in the charts, on the radio, and on TV—it was definitely living its golden years. Despite that, it was almost crazy to think about recreating those sounds… from the Sunset Strip, let’s say, to make it clear… in a reality as completely distant and different as ours.
In October of ’89, you entered Imperia’s legendary—and now ghost—”Room Ore Studio” for the first time to record two tracks: “I want to hold you now” and “Another reason to live”. That demo never saw the light of day because you weren’t satisfied with the production. Looking back, were you too perfectionist or was the studio just not ready for your sonic impact?
The very first unreleased demo from autumn 1989, recorded at the legendary “Room Ore” studio in Imperia, wasn’t satisfying at all. This was mainly due to two reasons: our total lack of studio experience (evaluating sounds, arrangements, etc.) and a production that was inadequate for the genre. The result lacked impact, and the sound production wasn’t effective.
You didn’t lose heart, and just two months later, in December, you were already in a Sanremo studio for If you need some fun. That’s where the first real rock band dramas started: your original drummer left halfway through the session, and Simone Giudici had to step in to save two tracks. How hellish and troubled were those recording sessions?
Exactly, we didn’t lose heart, and in December we changed studios and our approach to recording. The producer was definitely a better fit for us. Considering the standards of the time, the technical result was decent. Surely, even that wasn’t truly satisfying for me, and I believe not for the others either—it didn’t sound the way I wanted it to. The guitar production, for instance, could have been much better. But that was the best we could do back then. Regarding the drummer, yes, there were various stylistic differences with our original drummer, so our friend Simone Giudici—a great musician—completed the recordings. He was a huge help; I still thank him today and say hello to him.
Despite the line-up chaos, that demo came out in early 1991 and literally blew up in the underground circuit. Several hundred copies were sold (which, back then, without the internet, was a crazy number!) and it got great reviews in fanzines. What memories do you have of the support from the “fanzine culture” of those years? Did you feel, even for a moment, like the kings of the local scene?
The If you need some fun demo came out in 1991. It enjoyed good local success with several hundred copies sold, many of them through mail-order. It was played on various radio stations during their rock music shows. I remember local stations in Milan, Genoa, Sanremo, Turin, and many other smaller Italian cities. It received good reviews in many fanzines of the time. Those were deeply different times compared to today; word of mouth was essential. In 1991, I went to California on vacation and took several copies of the demo with me. I gave quite a few to venue owners who organized rock concerts and to DJs who hosted rock shows on local radio stations. Honestly, I don’t know if they ever played anything from that demo—frankly, I’d guess not.
Strange Kind of Love, I want to hold you now, Downtown queen, and Down in the city. Four titles that ooze urban attitude and street stories. Where did your lyrics come from, and how did you manage to write such direct and genuine songs while being so young?
First of all, thank you very much for the appreciation. How did we do it? I wouldn’t know, I don’t remember. It came naturally to us, maybe because we were totally immersed in music in those years—it was our reason for living. We were determined kids with a huge dream, an impossible dream I’d say… but it was fun trying. The lyrics came from what we had around us, from what struck us, from what we lived through… from some experiences we had and some events that happened at the time. That being said, I’d say nothing major, nothing special really.
Then, in 1992, the curtain suddenly fell. The band officially called it quits right as Grunge was wiping out Hard Rock globally. Was it the changing times that killed the engine, or were there other personal reasons behind that crossroads?
Yes, it’s exactly as you say. A series of circumstances, including the ones you mentioned, made us realize it was over. I’ll add that our musical tastes also changed a bit (though not in the direction of the rising Grunge scene, in my case).
Let’s leap forward 33 years. It’s 2025. The world has changed, but the spark is still alive. Daniele, Massimo, Luca, and Alex look each other in the eye and decide to reunite. What was the exact spark, the “fuck it, we have to do this again” moment that drove you to put the Hollywood Heartbreakers back together?
Well, saying the spark is still alive after 35 years is maybe a bit much… let’s just say it’s probably the desire to close the loop. To finally put a period at the end of this story, which is a part of our lives and was once truly very important to us.
Your stated goal for this reunion is a single, huge one: to finally record a full-length album with all the songs written and played between 1989 and 1991. How does it feel to rework songs written more than thirty years ago? Are you keeping the raw approach of the era, or is there a different maturity in the control room?
Yes, this reunion has that as its sole objective: to record the full album, something we weren’t able to do back then. Reworking songs from 36 or 37 years ago is certainly strange—a plunge into the distant past. All the songs that will make up the album (currently being recorded) were written between 1989 (the vast majority of them) and 1990. Obviously, today there is a lot of maturity and, above all, a lot more experience (I’m thinking of my brother Daniele, Luca, and the newcomer Roby Sleazy). But by our own choice, the tracks will have to be practically identical to how they were back then. If it weren’t like that, it wouldn’t make sense for me to do all this. This album absolutely has to be a snapshot of those years, of what we were. After that, we close the book.
Heavy rock band AUDREY HORNE continue to deliver absolute hit material with their new single “God Damn Beautiful,” cut from the new 8th studio album Achilles (out September 4, 2026, via Napalm Records)! This groovy, Thin Lizzy -inspired track brings bass player Espen Lien to center stage on lead vocals, and arrives with a playful official music video.
The follow-up to the critically praised latest studio albums Blackout (2018) and Devil’s Bell (2022), the upcoming studio offering Achilles stays true to AUDREY HORNE‘s classic heavy rock sound while demonstrating the more melodic side of the band. These Norwegian rock exports are also set to bring the new album on the road in Europe this autumn on yet another international headline tour. Check out the music video for “God Damn Beautiful” below and secure your copy of Achilles now!
AUDREY HORNE on “God Damn Beautiful”: “The fight for being center stage and in the limelight has always been strong and at times pretty ugly in AUDREY HORNE. But now Espen has taken it a step further and pushed Toschie into the shadows. ‘God Damn Beautiful’ is straight-to-the-point, dripping with twin guitars and is simply beautiful, much like Espen himself. Things might look bright for him, but Toschie still has a couple of tricks up his sleeve. Stay tuned for the next chapter.”
The new album features 11 multi-faceted tracks, ranging from high-energy heavy rock pieces to more melodic and progressive songs, leaving no questions about the songwriting capabilities of this five-piece, which consists of vocalist Toschie, guitarists Ice Dale (Enslaved) and Thomas Tofthagen, bassist Espen Lien and drummer Kjetil Greve.
Hard-hitting title track “Achilles” kicks the new album right off as roaring guitars meet an impactful rhythm section, all topped with powerfully captivating vocals. The band showcases their more progressive side on the song through creating a strong contrast between different parts, which supports the lyrics that draw from today’s polarized world. The band stays true to its sound on the high-energy rock’n’roll number “Insanity” that features a catchy chorus and twin guitars – and a gripping storyline inspired by the classic Iron Maiden tune “Hallowed be thy name”! Closing track “New Star Falling” wraps the album up beautifully, showcasing the melodic side of AUDREY HORNE‘s sound.
With Achilles, AUDREY HORNE return with an atmospheric heavy rock album that combines classic ‘70s and ‘80s influences with lyrical themes spanning escapism to commentary on the instability of the world we live in. It’s a perfect fit for both rock radio and live stages!

British Rock N Roll band SILVEROLLER have officially signed a worldwide multi album deal with renowned Italian rock label Frontiers Records. The band’s highly anticipated debut album is set for release in March 2027, accompanied by an extensive run of UK tour dates
“We are beyond thrilled to be signing with Frontiers, an incredible label with an incredible philosophy, and a roster to match. We’re looking forward to getting to work and delivering our debut album!” Says frontman Jonnie Hodson
While often associated with the golden era of ’70s rock, SILVEROLLER are anything but a nostalgia act. Blending classic influences with contemporary songwriting, infectious hooks, and electrifying performances, the band has forged a sound that feels both timeless and refreshingly modern.
Their explosive live shows have already earned them a reputation as one of the UK’s most exciting rising rock acts, captivating audiences with raw energy, musical excellence, and undeniable stage presence. With their debut album, SILVEROLLER are set to deliver that same intensity on record—marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter alongside Frontiers Records.
SILVEROLLER will be on tour in Europe this September: Sept 9 – Freilichtbühne – Mulheim an der Ruhr DE Sept 11 – Sinner Rock Festival – Altengronau DE Sept 12 – Rock N Revel Festival – Marienmünster DE Sept 13 – Raismesfest – Raismes FR Sept 25 – Alt – Werdohl DE Sept 26 – Formosa Bierfest – Essen DE

SILVEROLLER are a five-piece Rock N Roll Band hailing from Liverpool. At first glance, it would be easy to dismiss them as just another ’70s rock revival act. However, the band offers far more than nostalgia, combining youthful energy with a deep understanding that great songs are built on more than just riffs and lyrics.
The band burst onto the scene in 2024 with the release of their debut EP, *At Dawn*. Their captivating live performances and relentless touring schedule quickly earned them a devoted and rapidly growing following. Sharing stages with acts such as DeWolf, Jared James Nichols, The Wildhearts, Crobot and Reef helped establish SILVEROLLER as one of the most exciting emerging live bands on the circuit. Their tour with DeWolf proved particularly successful, leading to a personal invitation to perform at DeWolff Fest in Utrecht later that year.
Festival promoters were equally impressed. After appearing on the local stage at Call of the Wild Festival in 2025, the band were immediately invited back to perform on the main stage in 2026. They were also selected to appear at the iconic Maid of Stone Festival in 2026.
SILVEROLLER debut EP received widespread praise from key media outlets. Planet Rock Radio became an early supporter, regularly featuring the band’s singles, while *Classic Rock Magazine* highlighted them in its *High Hopes* feature. Describing singer Jonnie Hodson as “a grinning barrel of Paul Rodgers-voiced, Rod Stewart-haired energy” and “a firecracker frontman,” the magazine also drew comparisons to legendary acts including Bad Company, Blackberry Smoke, The Faces and The Black Crowes.
In 2026, the band’s hard work and growing reputation were rewarded when Frontiers Records signed SILVEROLLER to a multi-album deal. Their new album is scheduled for release in March 2027 and the band will be touring across the UK and Europe to promote it.
Epictronic is proud to announce the signing of Italian alternative prog metal band Red Code. Marking the beginning of this new partnership, the band has released their new single and official video, “Quarantine,” the first preview of their debut EP, Traces of unease and discomfort (Episode 1), due for release this September.
“Quarantine,” together with “Toxic Karma” and “Checkmate,” forms part of An Archive of Us, a sci-fi/thriller short film that explores a dystopian world as a metaphor for humanity’s need for control. Produced by S@NGIORGIO 2020 with technical support from Infinity Digital, the project expands Red Code’s music into a cinematic narrative where psychological tension and social commentary intertwine.
The single captures the band’s distinctive approach to alternative and progressive metal, pairing powerful riffs with emotionally charged songwriting and the commanding performance of vocalist Lenina.
The band’s statement about the signing: “Signing with Epictronic is, for us, both a wonderful surprise and the culmination of years of work aimed at giving the metal scene in our region the recognition it deserves beyond our borders,” the band said in a statement. “It’s the icing on the cake after years of stages, festivals, and events shared with the bands that helped keep this scene alive. Our biggest thank you goes to our fans — those who’ve followed us for years, and those about to discover us.”

About Red Code
Red Code was formed in Trieste as a live act, founded by vocalist Lenina, drummer Ivo, and bassist Andrea Bossi, who later passed away. The band kept playing in his memory and has built a steady live history, opening for Cristina Scabbia (Lacuna Coil), Exilia, Nicola Manzan (Bologna Violenta), Pierpaolo Capovilla (Il Teatro degli Orrori), Underwaves, Tystnaden, Logical Terror, and Break Me Down, and performing on Radio Rai and at venues, festivals, and motorcycle rallies across the region. The sound is built entirely on Lenina’s vocals and the band’s instruments, with no backing tracks, post-production, or sequencing — alternative metal aggression filtered through prog influences, with touchpoints ranging from System of a Down and Godsmack to Dream Theater and Fates Warning. Traces of Unease and Discomfort is the band’s first studio release of original material after years of live shows.
Traces of unease and discomfort (Episode 1)
“Traces of unease and discomfort” draws on the personal experiences of each band member, all of whom contributed to the music and lyrics. The songs move through claustrophobic relationships, toxic dynamics, personal responsibility for pain, and self-sabotage. Tracks were mixed and mastered partly by Jens Bogren and Ricardo Borges at Fascination Street Studios in Örebro, Sweden — whose credits include Arch Enemy, Sepultura, Katatonia, Devin Townsend, Ihsahn, At the Gates, Dark Tranquillity, Paradise Lost, and Symphony X — and partly by Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio, who has worked with Deathless Legacy, Elvenking, Vision Divine, and Michael Romeo, and plays guitar in DGM.
About the photo shooting:
On May 12, 1986, shortly after the explosion of the Chernobyl reactor, the American networks ABC and NBC broadcast the first images of the disaster: a smoking chimney, square concrete silhouettes, typically Soviet in style. Except they were fake — forgeries. The images were actually of well-known architectural landmarks in Trieste. Cristian Deklic’s photo shoot follows Red Code through the locations behind one of the most colossal fake news stories in world journalism, set in what was at the time Italy’s eastern border.
