Brutal Planet Records unveils “Covered in Black”, an EP by PATRIARCHS IN BLACK that redefines six classic tracks with a dark, riff-heavy twist.
Limited to just 500 CDs, this release features five unique covers and one original song, blending doom, metal, and a touch of stoner rock to put a fresh, heavy spin on familiar favorites. With covers of Kiss’s “Rock Bottom,” Twisted Sister’s “Destroyer,” Peter Gabriel’s “Games Without Frontiers,” Motörhead’s “The Chase is Better than the Catch,” and Led Zeppelin’s “Friends,” each track brings the spirit of the original while immersing it in PATRIARCHS IN BLACK’s signature sound.
Founding members Dan Lorenzo (Hades, Non-Fiction) and Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Danzig, Quiet Riot) lead this project, with Lorenzo previously collaborating with Bobby Blitz on The Cursed. The EP’s lineup is rounded out by guest vocalists and bassists on each track, adding diverse and dynamic interpretations to the mix. An original song, “My Veneration,” offers a taste of PATRIARCHS IN BLACK’s own sonic vision, built on heavy riffage and dark atmospheres. Housed in a six-panel booklet jewel case, this EP is a must-have for fans of Black Sabbath, Hades and Type O Negative.
“Covered in Black” celebrates the power of reinvention, pulling these classics into new depths with grit, heaviness, and an unwavering respect for the originals.

Icelandic cowboys SÓLSTAFIR are now celebrating the release of their new full-length, Hin Helga Kvöl,’ which out out worldwide today, November 8, via Century Media Records! The band is now celebrating this release with a visualizer for the new single, “Vor ás,” which can be found at THIS LOCATION.
The visualizer is based on the artwork of the album. The stunning eloquence in cover artist Rowan E Cassidy’s charcoal shadows perfectly illustrates the substrate ravines and breath-taking altitudes that can be found within ‘Hin helga kvöl.’
When asked to describe the music on ‘Hin helga kvöl,’ lead vocalist and guitarist Aðalbjörn Tryggvason simply replies with one word: “Alone.”
Alone is a perfectly succinct word for SÓLSTAFIR’s ardently unfiltered music where we discover ourselves, with a new found reverence for solitary reflection. This is “Hin helga kvöl”, the holy struggle for overcoming adversity in life.
Meaning “crepuscular rays” in Icelandic, the name “SÓLSTAFIR” refers to those piercing rays of sunlight that break through dark clouds at dusk. This imagery captures the essence of their upcoming album, a beacon of light and hope shining through the heaviest of times. As the band confronts their inner demons, shrugging off the trappings of rock and roll decadence, their music resonates with the universal struggle and triumph over hardship. ‘Hin helga kvöl’ is the holy war that we all face within. The album can be ordered HERE.

Finnish industrial metallers KING SATAN have unleashed their brand new full-length record “The Devil’s Evangelion” via Noble Demon.
To celebrate the release in a fitting manner, the band has released a captivating music video for the track “Destroy The World” to further fuel the excitement. Watch the video here:
“As The Devil’s Evangelion is thematically something of an ultimate King Satan album, we wanted to include this new version of Destroy the World to create a ‘circle-closing’ moment in the album’s arc, embracing the paradoxical themes we’ve explored since the beginning. We aren’t typically known for slower-paced songs with a melancholic touch, as our singles usually showcase very different sides of our music. So, we thought it was time to present this side from us too. The music video might be, at the same time, the simplest yet most complex King Satan video to date, as I, the director, embraced dreamlike absurdism, symbolism, and surrealism in a very minimalistic way.” Mr. King Aleister Satan comments and explains the album’s concept further: ”’The Devil’s Evangelion’ is a concept album concentrating on the duality and the paradoxical nature of reality. This concept stems from a trickster-like narrative that becomes convinced about being possessed by the Devil, leading to an experience of reality through the Devil’s eyes.”
Since their formation in late 2015, KING SATAN has consistently pushed the boundaries of extreme music. Blending elements of electro-industrial, symphonic black metal, death metal, and rock ‘n’ roll, and the band’s chaotic and theatrical sound has garnered a dedicated fanbase.
Led by the enigmatic Mr. King Aleister Satan, KING SATAN‘s music brings forth an anarchistic blend of carnivalesque artistry, absurdist dark comedy, occult intrigue, and in-depth philosophical ponderings, served in an intoxicating blend of rocking dance beats, thought-provoking lyrics, mesmerizing melodies, and addictive hooks the band themselves have titled as ‘death metal disco’. A fusion fit for both dance floors and mosh pits. With all these elements, the band defies conventions and embraces controversy the way which should not really make much sense on paper – and yet, it has consistently helped to create more and more buzz for the band wherever they go.
Unfortunately, due to production delays, the physical release of “The Devil’s Evangelion” has been pushed back a few weeks to December 6th. The album will be available on LP, CD, and digital formats. Unfortunately, these delays also affect the release of the accompanying lyric book, “The Devil’s Evangelion and the Law of Chaos”.
“The Devil’s Evangelion and the Law of Chaos” is a compilation of all published lyrics written for KING SATAN between 2015 and 2024 by its bandleader, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist, Seth Aleisterde King Satan. This opus is acompanied by selected lyrics and related interview excerpts from his longest-running band, Saturnian Mist (est.2006), to offer a holistic outlook on the artist’s unorthodox and trickster-like vision of Satanism, Ocultism, Mysticism and Spiritual Anarchy.

GOTHO comments, “It’s the second time Gothron and Fartark meet and fight, and this time Gothron will have his revenge. Second Fight In Planet Disco Dance starts with an intricate section of unisons and polyrhythms that after a while becomes the base of an epic-space mood theme, which is destroyed and rebuilt all along the track, passing through metal, disco dance and prog rock.”
Just exclusively premiered with Visions Magazine, a visualizer clip for “Second Fight In Planet Disco Dance” is now streaming here:
GOTHO is an instrumental duo formed in the Summer of 2020 by Fabio Cuomo (Elder, Eremite, Liquido Di Morte) on synthesizers and electric piano and Andrea Peracchia (Tons, Dogs For Breakfast, Slaiver) on drums. Musically, the album stands out for its use of synthesizers, electric piano, trumpet, drums, and featuring prominent use of the vocoder, masterfully woven together to create an immersive, cinematic soundscape. With five highly rated albums to their credit, Norwegian Jazz Rockers KROKOFANT are set to celebrate the new year with the release their sixth full-length, titled “6”, which is scheduled to hit the streets on Is It Jazz? Records on the 10th January.
Founded in Oslo in 2011 as a trio consisting of Tom Hasslan on Guitar, Jørgen Mathisen on Saxophone and Axel Skalstad on Drums, KROKOFANT’s lineup did, for a time, include an additional two members. However, today it is back to its original format, and the new album very much reflects a band that has rekindled the fun of making songs together, and revelling in their ability to create a sound that requires a more intense, improvisational interplay.
To whet the appetite of KROKOFANT fans, Is It Jazz? Records has chosen to release the opening track “Harry Davidson” as a single, and the band’s Tom Hasslan has this to say about it:
“Harry” was composed some years ago, and has been sneaking into our repertoire whenever we performed live as a trio, which was during the period when we mostly performed as a quintet with Ståle Storløkken on keys and Ingebrigt Håker Flaten on bass.
With its heavy riffs and a catchy sax melody on top “Harry” comes off like a classic KROKOFANT tune with all the traits from our earlier releases as a trio.It drives into a shreddy/quasi skronki guitar solo, complemented by a deep synth bass and creative groove-based drums.
It’s apparent from the moment you hear the opening track from “6”, with its chugging riff and catchy melody, that the classic KROKOPHANT sound is still intact. The more jazzy chord based tunes like “Triple Dad”, and the spacey, atmospheric, sounds of “The Ballade”, for example, make “6” an album that will appeal to rock fans, free jazzers and jazz-rock nostalgics alike.
With artwork by Maria Risa Bornes, tracklisting for “6” is as follows:
1. Harry Davidson 2. Triple Dad 3. Oh My Cod 4. Country Doom 5. The Ballade 6. Pretentious Woman
“6” will be available CD, Digital and Magenta Vinyl LP formats, and can now be pre-ordered at:
KROKOFANT’s sound is deeply rooted in the 70s, with subtle nods in the direction of KING CRIMSON and SOFT MACHINE. Whilst this is not necessarily a rare thing in the Norwegian jazz/rock scene, the band still manages to sound quite unique, and is regarded as one of the founders of the current progressive jazz movement that is sweeping the country.
Hasslan and Skalstad, both of whom are now also members of SOFT FFOG, and both of whom happen to be past winners of the Kongsberg Jazzfestival Recruitment Scholarship, first met in a local record store. One year later they were joined by Mathisen, a noted saxophonist known for his work with bands such as SHAGMA, THE CORE, ZANUSSI FIVE and HUMVEE.
Their resurrection as a trio has seen the band move from being more of a playground for Hasslan´s prog-rock compositions, which was much in evidence during its period as a quintet. THE KROKOFANT of today is much more focused on the “collective”, sculpting their music together rather than following the more rigid song structures required by a quintet.
Musically KROKOFANT demonstrates a rare melodic flair, conjuring up one catchy phrase after another in a free jazz style whose precise and heavy riffs are redeemed by strong improvisations. Its wild saxophone solos are teamed with hugely creative, virtuoso guitar playing, and drumming that sounds like a turbocharged hybrid of Keith Moon and Elvin Jones .
For those who are curious about the name “KROKOFANT”, it is the name of a mythical creature featured in a popular Norwegian children’s song – a cross between an elephant and a crocodile, “a lumbering trumpeting beast with a fearsome array of teeth in its snapping jaws…”
French rock and metal sensation Revnoir has released their gripping new single ‘Crève’, continuing their exploration of dark, emotional themes.
Revnoir comment: “For the next tracks, our goal is to make you feel like you’re living through one of your nightmares. These dark dreams often stem from everyday fears, and we aim to amplify those anxieties, turning them into something bigger and more intense. Each song will immerse you in a world where the lines between reality and fear blur, making you confront the deeper emotions lurking beneath the surface.“
The song delves into the painful paradox of a toxic love, blending intense English and French lyrics that navigate the turmoil of feeling entrapped by someone destructive. ‘Crève’ captures this raw, cathartic experience with vivid imagery and a visceral soundscape that mirrors the psychological torment of its narrative. Revnoir‘s bold integration of rock, metal, and dark electro elements makes this track a profound statement on love’s darker side, resonating with anyone who has felt the desperation of a fraught relationship.
