A toast to the fell-between, ‘Heaven Burns’ takes you to a party past its prime, lights flashing, no one around. A celebration for a world where your measure of success is how far you can run with your eyes closed. Collect, consume. Earn the bigger purchase. You’ve earnt it. I’m sure your friends will call you back. We were promised a heaven on earth, yet we look upon a burning landfill. If we followed the rules, who’s to blame?
‘Heaven Burns’ and its music video tease the upcoming EP ‘Casual Ties’, coming early 2024. SURPLUS never left, yet will return.
“Salighet”, the fourth full-length album from Norwegian Prock Rockers JORDSJØ, sees multi-instrumentalist Håkon Oftung (TUSMØRKE, BLACK MAGIC, THE CHRONICLES OF FATHER ROBIN) and drummer KRISTIAN FRØLAND continue on their musical journey that draws its inspiration from Nordic jazz and folk music, classical 1900s music, and sensory expanding 60s and 70s rock.
With “Salighet” set to hit the streets on the 6th October, and with the possibility of the album becoming one of the most significant Prog albums of 2023, Karisma Records have treated JORDSJØ fans, old and new, to a another glimpse, with the release of the single “Ura”, which can be downloaded or streamed from a variety of platforms at THIS LOCATION.
JORDSJØ explained how a mountain hike led to the creation of this particular track:
“Ura” (The Stone Pile) is based on a poem written after a mountain hike surrounded by fog and rain, and the feeling of losing track of the trail you follow. Even in familiar places where you have wandered countless times, nature can behave in ways that make you lose your way. Life itself can sometimes be perceived in the same way, and new roads and directions can appear out of the fog. The poem was written in the same form as old folk songs, so composing music and rhythms in the same fashion was a very natural process.
As to “Salighet” itself, by melding progressive rock with fantastic melodies and an added Folkish twist, JORDSJØ sets out to explore the various forms of ecstasy. The album’s grand dynamics and dramatics serving as a counterpoint to the mundane reality of everyday existence.
The desire to find mystery and alternate realities amongst all that is banal in our day to day lives is expressed through JORDSJØ’s music and lyrics – the colourful symphonic folk-rock sound bringing to life a dance or a a mountain hike, a fairytale or religious pondering or any other kinds of inner travels.
Mastered by Magnus Guldbrandsen at Jelöy Sound Mastering, and with artwork by Sindre Foss Skancke, track listing for “Salighet” is as follows:
01. Invokasjon 02. Sankeren 03. Salighet I 04. Salighet II 05. Ura 06. Danseritualer fra Jordsjø – Prosesjon & Ekstase 07. Stjernestigen
“Salighet” will be released in CD, Digital, LP, and Limited Edition Transparent vinyl formats, and is now available to pre-order from:
WOLFHEART unveiled their highly-anticipated standalone single, “Iku-Turso,” in collaboration with Distortion Music Group. This powerful track released on all major music platforms September 8, 2023.
Crafted by the talented songwriter Tuomas Saukkonen, “Iku-Turso” is a testament to his creative prowess. The single has been expertly brought to life by Saku Moilanen, who handled the production, recording, mixing, and mastering with finesse at DeepNoise Studios.
“Seems like with each concept album we make there is one story that is left behind and deserves a sequel to the theme. Our previous full length “King Of The North” was fully focused on Finnish Mythology and we did thorough job covering everything between creation of the nordic realm to the demigods of Finnish nature. But one truly primeval and malevolent creature, sea monster called Iku-Turso was left behind and now we are back to tell the story about a hunt of this beast that was also believed to be the god of war,” says Tuomas Saukkonen.
Finnish frontrunners WOLFHEART have proven themselves to be one of metal’s most captivating acts of northern heritage and one of the fastest rising bands in the international melodic death metal scene. Over the course of the last three years alone, the band has remained relentless with the release of their highly acclaimed full-length, Wolves of Karelia (2020) and Skull Soldiers EP (2021), gaining massive praise from fans and press alike with their icy tales of battle and triumph. The new album, King Of The North (out September 16, 2022 via Napalm Records), picked up right where WOLFHEART left off – taking every aspect of their trademark sound of colossal melodies, growling vocals and driving drum rhythms to searing new levels. Each song on King Of The North was dedicated to a different story of Finnish mythology – underlined by WOLFHEART’s grand, crushing songwriting and production. “Ancestor”, featuring none other than Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage fame, is the album’s top frostbitten anthem, unleashing WOLFHEART’s most crushing blast beats and cutting-edge vocal performances. “The King” marches on, telling the tale of the forest god with horns and pianos accompanying heavy guitar riffs and solos, before raising the energy levels once more on the relentless “Cold Flame” featuring Karl Sanders of legendary extreme metal group Nile. King Of The North is a true masterpiece of melodic death metal, crafted with loads of attention to detail and intricate mythology-driven storytelling – showcasing WOLFHEART at never before heard artistic levels!
One story from the colossal theme album King Of The North was left behind and 8th of September will tell the tale of the malevolent sea monster known by the name Iku-Turso. There is various descriptions about Iku-Turso from a god of war to a father of diseases and overall it is truly primeval creature in Finnish mythology and definitely deserver and epic and thundering track to tell its tale and that is what WOLFHEART delivers briefly prior to their 1st headline tour in Europe in November 2023
