TREVOR RABIN Launches Debut Single ‘Big Mistakes’, from First New Vocal-Led Solo Album in Over 30 Years

Trevor Rabin, the South African guitarist, singer, multi-musician, writer and producer, recently announced ‘Rio’, his first solo album of vocal material in 34 years, set for release on the 6th October 2023 worldwide. Today he is pleased to reveal the albums first single, ‘Big Mistakes’, alongside a brand new video. Watch it below.

Trevor comments: “‘Big Mistakes’ the first single on the album, is essentially about surviving my late teens/twenties, hence the lyric: ‘We played in the fire, we danced in the rain. Up all night we made Big Mistakes’. I should have called the song ‘I Can’t Believe I’m Alive.” Trevor plays all the instruments on the track, aside from the drums which were performed by Lou Molino, and backing vocals from Dante Marchi & Liz Constantine. ‘Rio’ will be available as a Ltd CD+Blu-ray Mediabook & Ltd Deluxe Gatefold Red 180g 2LP + Blu-ray (including 8-page LP-booklet and obi strip), both featuring bonus material, 5.1 surround sound & liner notes. Also available as Standard CD Jewelcase, Gatefold 180g

2LP+LP-booklet (with etching on side D), and as Digital Album. The cover for the album was created by Trevor himself: “I dabble with digital art so I sent some images of mine to the label and was pleasantly surprised when they liked them.”.

Pre-order now here: https://trevorrabin.lnk.to/Rio

The full track-listing is as follows:
1. Big Mistakes
2. Push
3. Oklahoma
4. Paradise
5. Thandi
6. Goodbye
7. Tumbleweed
8. These Tears
9. Egoli
10. Toxic

Given that his previous vocal-led solo album, ‘Can’t Look Away’, was released in 1989 (2012’s ‘Jacaranda’ was all-instrumental), Rabin has kept us waiting for more than three decades for a follow-up. Trevor admits that there was pressure from all sides, including his own family, to have speeded up the process. However, the delay is excusable. Since leaving Yes following the ‘Talk’ album in 1994 and largely as a prequel to touring as part of ARW in 2016, the guitarist entered the time-consuming world of movie soundtracks. Not just any old movies, either. Trevor’s name appears as composer for such blockbusters as Con Air, Armageddon, Remember the Titans, Enemy Of The State, Deep Blue Sea, Glory Road, and Gone In 60 Seconds and both National Treasure movies, amongst many others. “Over the past ten years I was having ideas, concepts that I couldn’t implement due to my busy schedule,” he explains, adding: “To be honest, those years flew by in a flurry. I knew that this was the time, and once I found my momentum I worked on the album 24/7.” The process proved a labour of love and as with his first and second solo records, ‘Trevor Rabin’ and ‘Face To Face’ (from 1977 and ’79 respectively), Rabin handled just about all of the instruments himself.

Stylistically, ‘Rio’– is tough to categorize. Besides guitar-driven rock-meets-pop, ‘Goodbye’ is Country & Western with an edgy drive, while ‘Tumbleweed’ begins in a burst of harmonies. No wonder its working title was ‘The Demographic Nightmare’.

“I wanted to get into many different areas,” Rabin states. “Of course there are ‘prog things’, but overall there are a lot of styles going on.”

As mentioned, Trevor plays the majority of the instruments on the record. However, on drums for a number of tracks is Lou Molino, while Trevor also contributes some drums and percussion. Vinnie Calaiuta provides drums on ‘Push’, and Rabin’s son Ryan Rabin helped out with some of the most important percussive arrangements. Along the way Trevor also drafted in a couple of friends, Dante Marchi and Liz Constantine, to sing back up on two songs.

BODY VOID Announce New Album “Atrocity Machine” + Share Lead Single ‘Flesh Market’

New England via Bay Area doom band BODY VOID has today announced that they’ll be releasing their fourth album, titled Atrocity Machine, via Prosthetic Records on October 13. Alongside the album announcement BODY VOID has also shared the lead single, Flesh Market, with an accompanying music video directed by Chariot of Black Moth.

Stream Flesh Market via Apple Music | TIDAL | Deezer | Bandcamp and Spotify
Pre-order Atrocity Machine here.

Speaking on the album announcement, Willow Ryan (guitar, bass, synths, vocals) comments: “With this album we wanted to embody the absurdity of living in a country where atrocity is so commonplace that it becomes mundane. How compartmentalizing these horrors day to day takes its toll. How the warped machine-like systems birthed out of capitalism and white supremacy that cause these atrocities become attached to you. They fuse themselves to your skin and bones until you live in grotesque comfort and familiarity with the fear and anxiety they create. All the while being forced to ensure their continued existence.

“Musically, we decided to incorporate more harsh electronics, taking influence from some of our favorites like Wolf Eyes, Pharmakon, and Killing Joke to create this doomed cyberpunk horror soundtrack. We’re also thrilled to have Prosthetic Records behind us once again to help us obtain our vision.”

Of Flesh Market, Ryan continues: “Flesh Market is maybe the most diverse song on the album. It does a great job at summarizing the wider aesthetic and thematic vision of the record, combining sludge, black death doom, and industrial noise. It’s about the way in which corporate capitalism seeks to dehumanize us and reduce us to meat.”

BODY VOID‘s morose view of the world hasn’t lightened any since the release of 2021’s critically acclaimed Bury Me Beneath This Rotting Earth, although Atrocity Machine embraces absurdity on a new level. The subject matter in hand takes stock of the oppressive systems and societal functions that continually degrade the lives of millions as they passively become a cog in the very machine that subjugates them. Police violence is the thematic centre of the unravelling horror on Atrocity Machine, highlighted specifically on the track Cop Show which details the commercialisation of fear and violence being turned into a spectacle.

The grotesque reality of living in a capitalist landscape, with the value of human life decreasing daily provides infinite fuel for anxiety and trauma. The lurid tones of modern day news media are the backdrop to an Akira-inspired encounter with divine violence, Atrocity Machine offers a cosmic view of living under such systems of oppression. Specifically that the status quo can’t last forever; a self-destructive society will indeed eventually destroy itself.

The suffocating nature of oppression seeps into the sound of Atrocity Machine too. Although still a doom band at its core, BODY VOID in 2023 has expanded to incorporate dexterous layers of synths, samples and noise that makes their industrial-sludge sonic emissions an asphyxiating listening experience. The band credit producer Ben Greenberg (Portrayal of Guilt, VR Sex, Soft Kill) with bringing their electronic elements into a cohesive sound that embraces heaviness and claustrophobic chaos in equal measure.

Artwork is thematically on point – inspired by Tetsuo: The Iron Man (a person becoming a machine) – and created by Ethan Lee McCarthy. Marking a shift from their previously black-and-white-only artwork, Atrocity Machine is both visually and sonically drawing a line in the sand, delineating the beginning of a new chapter for BODY VOID.

Atrocity Machine tracklist:
1. Microwave
2. Human Greenhouse
3. Flesh Market
4. Cop Show
5. Divine Violence
6. Atrocity Machine

BODY VOID is:
Willow Ryan (guitar, bass, synths, vocals)
Janys-Iren Faughn (electronics, samples, live bass)
Edward Holgerson (drums)

  • Noveria features members of DGM, Ethernity, Epysode and Paul Gilbert (live)
  • produced by Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio
  • cover & artwork by Nicolas Spreutels

THE IDIOTS Celebrate Album Release Day with Brand New Music Video ‘SchwArz’

Iconic punk metal act THE IDIOTS is celebrating the release of their tenth studio album, “König der Idioten”, that is out now on Massacre Records!

With “König der Idioten” (engl. King of Idiots), THE IDIOTS are screaming for a better world. Lyrically, as musically, this album is certainly the most extreme and heaviest THE IDIOTS album to date. The explosive mixture of words, music, energy, and anger offers fans and listeners a musical firework of a special kind. It should be liberating, awakening, thought-provoking, but of course also spread power, joy, and energy. On “König der Idioten”, THE IDIOTS embody what they feel, think, and live for! Every note, every word is lived by them, celebrated with devotion and is full of authenticity. Be it helping the homeless, fundraising for flood victims, supporting the Sea Shepherd organization or calls and actions for rescuing and supporting clubs, print media, bands and the whole cultural scene – THE IDIOTS put their heart and soul into it. “We stand and fight for respect, diversity, human rights, nature, and animal welfare! Also, we stand up against oppression and any kind of dictatorships and for minorities.”

To celebrate their new album in style, today, the band has unleashed a new music video for the song “SchwArz”! The clip is now premiering here:

Frontman Sir Hannes Smith reveals: “Some of us had a difficult childhood and were extremely beaten up by our parents; in kindergarten fists flew during fights, there were gangs of kids, friends lost their eyes in stone fights and for the teachers you were a guinea pig and were only bullied, if you were different than the others and not a yes-person.

Already at the age of three, I noticed that I was drifting more and more away from the real world and started creating my own world. First in my imagination only, and later I painted my vintage car-themed wallpaper completely black and stuck the “Dark Side Of The Moon” pyramid on it. I listened to the wacky early albums of Pink Floyd, to Hawkwind (I already liked Lemmy’s voice back then), Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Zappa, and Yes, which I saw live at the age of 12.

When I was 13 years old, I always had my ear glued to the British radio station and discovered punk for myself. It was no longer possible to live at home, and I lived as a homeless person in Berlin, Hamburg, London, Cologne and Dortmund. This homeless time from 13-18 years brought also many dark, morbid and black sides with suicidal thoughts, alcohol & drug excesses with subsequent trips to psychiatric wards, hospitals or prisons with them, of course.

2020 with the pandemic rising, I had this deja vu, and the song “SchwArz” describes our and my feelings.”

“König der Idioten” is now available as CD Digipak, Ltd. Vinyl LP and Digital formats, and you can order your copy at THIS LOCATION!

THE BLACK SKELETON to Release New Album “The Rear View” on August 11th

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 6, 2023

Quinn Gardener-Kane has been making what started as a fun journey of writing and recording with other super creative friends, into an emotive rock ‘n roll beast all of its own. The Black Skeleton is a window to the inner thoughts and stories of Quinn’s life experiences; some dark, some haunting, but always personal. The themes and depth of this collection of songs will resonate, provoke and have a different point of resonation with each listen.

Quinn has sought after, and secured, some of Australia’s most accomplished musicians to assist in the final recordings, and form the live band to showcase these amazing, kick ass songs. Give it a listen and get hooked too.

Quinn Gardener-Kane, the artistic force behind The Black Skeleton, provides a refreshing take on their latest release. Rejecting lofty pretenses,  Kane describes earlier single “The Snake” as a thrilling and unapologetic celebration of rock music. The band’s ability to merge hauntingly familiar elements with an unbridled sense of fun sets them apart in the contemporary music scene.

Pre save/preorder here: https://orcd.co/tbs-the-rear-view

Track by track:
Raiser:
New York post-punk mayhem incarnate, Raiser is the sexual tyrannosaurus of “The Rear View” album and The Black Skeleton in full flight. The unholiest of unholiness. Enjoy!
Swear
The first single from the forthcoming album, ‘The Rear View,’ ‘Swear’ is about as grunt and as catchy as it gets. Listen to it as loud as your system can handle it. You won’t be disappointed. The Black Skeleton is at the wheel and the pedal is to the metal.
The Rabbit Hole
Gritty, edgy, honest. The Rabbit Hole is one of the earliest tracks completed for The Rear View album and steps away rom traditional rock songwriting into an energy all its own. What we trying new things like to call a “grower”.
Killfingers
Some people deserve the slow cold touch. Play ‘em this one. There’s an homage to one of my favourite movies in here too. I loved working on this one. It started as a completely different outline many years ago. I hope you like it enough to tell someone about it.
The Snake
“The latest release from The Black Skeleton is a hauntingly familiar stadium rock tragedy that tugs on the heartstring and inspires… nah… that’s bullshit.. This new track, The Snake, is just a whole mess of rock n roll fun. Get in in ya ears!”
The Rear View
When you don’t like what you see, re-invent it. This is a track about reclaiming the person you were always meant to be. Put everything about the past you dislike in the rear view and head toward the sun.
Puppy Run

“Most of my lyrics are constructed of metaphors – this is the exception. Puppy Run is all about a dog I had that just wanted to run until he couldn’t go on any longer. He’d wait or me to finish work and be ready and off we’d go. It’s all he wanted to do aside from lick his deck and eat. Best dog I ever had.”
Jaded Ways
“Relationship gone stale? Flip it, exit and get busy being happy!”
Sakura
“This is a piece of music that I’m really happy with exactly how it is. It was a bunch of fun to create and I hope it sends an energy of looking forward through you as it does me.”
Change
How do you know when enough is enough? As soon as someone asks the question. “Change”, the 2023 version, is about as close as it gets to the truth of romantic love – it never lasts.

New Zealand’s SHEPHERDS REIGN Release Immense New Single ‘Nafanua’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on August 6, 2023
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: SHEPHERDS REIGN. Leave a comment

“Nafanua”, the new single from SHEPHERDS REIGN‘s upcoming album ‘Ala Mai’, is a story about the titular character, Samoa’s Goddess of War, the daughter of the God of the Underworld (Pulotu), who was born of a blood clot and buried in the ground, before rising to defeat all warriors who stood against her. Fighting to protect her family, she was feared by all. The track’s pulverising rhythms, heavy chugging riffs and snaking lead guitar all serve to underpin lead vocalist, Filiva’a’s trademark enormous, guttural roar, while the soaring, melodic chorus belies the story’s immense sense of foreboding. Despite the song consisting heavily of local lore, its broader messages sink in deep.

Pre-order/add/save ‘Nafanua‘ here: https://orcd.co/shepherds-reign-nafanua

Hailing from the vibrant region of South Auckland, New Zealand, Shepherds Reign embodies the essence of their Polynesian heritage through their music.
