THULCANDRA Announce New Album “Hail The Abyss” + Unleash Music Video for Intense First Single

Black-death metal force THULCANDRA has announced the release of their brand new studio album! Hail The Abyss will be unleashed on May 19, 2023 via Napalm Records, and sees the band prove yet again why they’re atop death metal’s malefic vedette.

THULCANDRA’s rise to power ignited when the Germany-based outfit unleashed their debut album, Fallen Angel’s Dominion, upon metaldom in 2010. The group, fronted by founding member and visionary Steffen Kummerer (also of Obscura fame), have tightened their hibernal grip on blackened death metal since. The desolate melodic emanations in follow-up studio records Under a Frozen Sun (2011), Ascension Lost (2015), and the chart-topping, 2021-album A Dying Wish, dedicated to late drummer Chris Kratzer, solidified THULCANDRA as a superior force, expertly thrusting the magic and mystery of mid-’90s melodic black-death metal into the modern era.

Their fifth attack, Hail the Abyss, showcases the band‘s affinity for dark, aggressive and mellifluous metal while the album rips and terrorizes with the intensity of hell. As always, THULCANDRA‘s about a vibe – there’s always a unique “feel” that’s distinctly old-school, but without the tired trappings of it.

Give ear, as in support of their upcoming record release, today, the four-piece not only continues to gear up for their first ever North American tour, but has just unleashed a video for their new, fierce album single, “As I Walk Through The Gateway”!

Says band guitarist/vocalist Steffen Kummerer:
“As I Walk Through The Gateway turned into a catchy, relentless and melodic exercise of black & death metal that blends the strengths of the band in a unique form. Catch the band on their first North American tour alongside Fleshgod Apocalypse, Obscura and Wolfheart to feel the blistering power behind this composition in a live setting.”

“With ‘Hail The Abyss’, we just count the 5th album within 20 years of Thulcandra“, Kummerer continues. “A banger, and a diverse record that shows a unique blend of black and death metal, combined with classic heavy metal twin guitars. The album turned out excellent and Dan Swanö delivered a splendid mix – raw, natural and showcasing each individual musician on the record. ‘Hail The Abyss’ undoubtedly turned into a highlight of our long lasting career.“

Hail the Abyss is slated for release on May 19, 2023 via Napalm Records. Cooperation with renowned producer Dan Swanö (Dissection, Opeth, Katatonia) was compulsory, as was the re-invitation to cover-master Lochner.

DISTANT Drop New Single + Video ‘Heritage’, Ft. LORNA SHORE’s Will Ramos, New Album Out Now

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 14, 2023

Last Friday (February 10th), DISTANT – the multinational down-tempo/deathcore juggernaut from Rotterdam (The Netherlands) and the Slovak Republic –  released their third full-length, Heritage.

Heritage, the new single/video for the title track – feat. Lorna Shore’s Will Ramos!

WATCH NOW HERE

DISTANT comments: “‘Heritage’, the title track from the newest DISTANT album, is a playful and colorful track featuring Will Ramos from Lorna Shore.
‘Heritage’ is a breathtakingly heavy track yet still emotional, with a huge chorus and pace to last you for days, showcasing the diversity of our Dutch/Slovak collective!
“At last, the father and son cross blades; during this exhausting battle, they remember the times forgotten as the clash of their blades sparks new light and brings up the twisted revelation of this catastrophic deception.”

DISTANT has become one of the prominent faces of European Deathcore. Melding together brutal death metal, slam, noise and beatdown with a hyper-dissonant orchestra of impending doom, they’ve come eons since their origins as metalcore obsessed friends in Rotterdam and Bratislava. Heritage, the quintet’s Century Media debut and third installment of bone crushing, thick-as-concrete heaviness, takes their trademark “Downtempo/Deathcore” and pushes it into the red. “It’s low and slow,” smirks vocalist Alan Grnja, describing the band’s sound. “Musically, lyrically, we try to travel the uncharted and come up with something you can only call DISTANT.”

Produced by the band’s guitarist Nouri Yetgin and Within Destruction guitarist Howard Fang plus co-producer Simone Pietroforte, Heritage is DISTANT’s coming of age and reckoning moment. “This is the perfect DISTANT record,” says Alan. “I want it to be a genre-defining album in the same way ‘The Cleansing’ was for Suicide Silence – I would say this album is for us.”

AMON AMARTH continues to tour in support of their critically lauded The Great Heathen Army full-length, released last August via Metal Blade Records.

Formed in Tumba, Sweden, in 1992, AMON AMARTH has forged an extraordinary legacy over three decades of thunderous, anthemic metal, all rich in the magical imagery of Viking history, folklore and culture. From their underground smash debut Once Sent From The Golden Hall (1998) onwards, AMON AMARTH has been an unstoppable creative force. With a unique and unmistakable sound that combines the best of several epic strains of metal, the quintet has become renowned for their ageless anthems and explosive, theatrical live shows. With albums like 2008’s widely acclaimed Twilight Of The Thunder God and 2016’s conceptual triumph Jomsviking, the Swedes have been consistent standard bearers for heavy metal as a life-affirming and communal experience, armed with a seemingly endless stream of instant classic songs.

Now reaping the rewards of all those years of hard work, AMON AMARTH are now regarded as one of the metal world’s most vital and imperious live acts. They claimed a place on Slayer‘s final tour of the US in 2019, to headlining festivals across Europe, to even playing a secret show in 2022 at Germany’s biggest Metal Festival Wacken, under the moniker Guardians Of Asgard, they have honored the adventurous ethos of their Viking forebears by taking their music anywhere and everywhere.

In 2020, the band decided to forge a new creative path, resulting in their most crushing and heroic full-length album to date: The Great Heathen Army. Recorded with esteemed studio guru Andy Sneap at the controls, The Great Heathen Army represents another bold leap forward for the band, as their trademark sound undergoes yet another skillful, evolutionary overhaul, both lyrically and musically. From the noisily rabble-rousing “Find A Way Or Make One” and the pummeling, pugilistic “Get In The Ring” to the evocative fury of “Saxons & Vikings” and the cinematic squall of the title track, The Great Heathen Army encapsulates the essence of this legendary band, while still allowing acres of space for new ideas.

GOATWHORE is touring in support of their Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven full-length, released in October via Metal Blade Records. Undeniably their most accomplished album to date in sound, concept, and execution, the twelve-track offering earned the #9 position on Billboard’s Current Hard Music Albums chart upon its first week of release and stands among the most volatile and plainly dangerous records to come out of 2022.

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven was produced by Jarrett Pritchard (Exhumed, 1349), and tracked primarily at Studio In The Country in Bogalusa, Louisiana under pandemic restrictions. Additionally, the band recruited acclaimed producer Kurt Ballou (Converge, High On Fire, Gatecreeper, Code Orange) to mix the record with final mastering duties handled by Grammy-award winning engineer Ted Jensen (Ghost, Gojira, Cult Of Luna). The record is tied together by the art of longtime collaborator Jordan Barlow whose cryptic use of sigils holds deeper meaning to the record’s totality.

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven is available on CD, digitally, and LP on multiple color variants. Preview and purchase yours today at: metalblade.com/goatwhore

ESPRIT D’AIR Releases 雫 (‘Shizuku’) in Collaboration with MISSTIQ

Japanese metal solo project Esprit D’Air, led by award-winning producer and composer Kai, has their new single, 雫 (‘Shizuku’), featuring Australian producer Misstiq on synthesizers.

About the track, Misstiq says:

“I’ve worked with many talented artists around the world, but Esprit D’Air… damn son. One of my absolute favourite collaborations!”.

The new single is accompanied by an animated music video. The story-telling video features Kai as a modern nomad shinobi that roams a dystopian world overrun by mech drones, as well as a special appearance by Misstiq.

The new single 雫 (‘Shizuku’) is a re-recording of the first and only ‘J-Rock’ song on Harmonix’s Rock Band 3 for Xbox360 by Esprit D’Air. The original track returned to Rock Band earlier this year as a playable song on January 5th for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, on Harmonix’s latest game Rock Band 4.

Currently, Kai is the only official member of Esprit D’Air since 2016, and appoints session musicians for live shows and tours. Esprit D’Air will be embarking on a 7-day UK tour in February 2023 supported by the Help Musicians charity, featuring Jan-Vincent Velazco (Pendragon, Gus G) on drums, Takeshi Tokunaga on bass, and Yusuke Okamoto and guitar. Joining the tour on main support for all dates excluding London are Diamond Black, fronted by Ben Christo from The Sisters of Mercy.

Kai says:

“Shizuku was the very first song I ever produced in 2010. I produced the instruments entirely, so I am really proud of giving the track new life in 2023 with Misstiq’s incredible additions on the synths.”

As featured on Loudwire, BBC Radio 1, Kerrang! Radio, and Billboard, Esprit D’Air released their 2nd album Oceans in 2022, which entered six Official UK Charts, including #8 in the Top 40 Rock & Metal Albums, and #5 in Top 20 Independent Albums Breakers. The new album featured members of both The Sisters of Mercy, and Crystal Lake, as well as remixes by HEAVYGRINDER and Shirobon.

Kai is not seeking a major record label but instead, follows a strong DIY ethos and produces everything himself to be as self-sufficient as possible. Consequently, Kai records and produces his own releases in his own home recording studio.

You can purchase the upcoming single 雫 (‘Shizuku’) on iTunes, or listen to it on Spotify here.

The original ‘Shizuku’ is available to play on Rock Band 4 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Download it here.

“Our environment is enveloped in death and constant change, as is the vessel we live in,” the band says. “‘Dying Life’ comes from a place of complete and utter pain before the world around us comes to an inevitable end and we can do nothing but watch and let it happen — there in the dark, under a dying sun.”

Remember… You Must Die was produced and mixed by Taylor Young (NAILS, Xibalba, Vitriol). For the artwork, the band enlisted renowned Necrosurrealist artist David Van Gough to visualize the concept.
