Irish Viking Metal/Norse Pagan Rockers REN MARABOU AND THE BERSERKERS have released a new video for ‘Death of Baldr’, the closing track on the band’s most recent album ‘SAGAS’.

The story behind the track…
Baldr, the brightest of all and the son of Odin met his untimely demise when the blind God Höd, deceived by the trickster Loki, killed him by hitting him with a mistletoe tipped arrow, the only thing that could hurt the invincible God. Upon word of Baldr’s death, everyone in the 9 Realms wept, all except one. Loki disguised as the giantess Thökk refused to weep the tears that would revive Baldr. Thus leaving him to reside in depths of Hel.

Australia’s LORD Kick Off 2022 with JUDAS PRIEST Cover ‘Blood Red Skies’ + New EP

Australian metallers LORD have kicked off 2022 with a bang, releasing their “Blood Red Skies” EP, featuring a cover of the JUDAS PRIEST classic of the same name, as well as a recent cover of IRON MAIDEN‘s “Stratego“.

Commented bass player Andy Dowling: “2021 was a big year for cover songs with the release of Undercovers Vol.1 and while we did originally vow to not do any more cover songs for the foreseeable future, here we are! This was a bit of a last minute release and some fun to celebrate what was a big year for LORD. We also think its a great way also kick off 2022 with a quick little tribute to two of the metal kings in Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. We hope this will keep our friends entertained while we continue to work on new LORD music for later this year.”

The full EP, exclusive to Bandcamp, comes with the IRON MAIDEN cover of Stratego which was previously a YouTube only release, Wilder Than the Wind (Dicks Out Mix) being a bonus track from the 2019 studio album Fallen Idols, as well as a half hour podcast chat between Andy and LT, talking about the release, 2021 in review and plans for new music.

Blood Red Skies can be originally found on the Judas Priest 1988 release Ram it Down. Stratego can be originally found on the Iron Maiden 2021 release Senjutsu.

LORD is essentially a continuation of DUNGEON, one of Australia’s longest-running heavy metal bands, with over a dozen releases so far. LORD’s 2021 release “Undercovers Vol.1” debuted at #7 on the Australian ARIA charts and #1 on the Australian Independent Records chart. This eclipsed the band’s 2019 full length album “Fallen Idols” that debuted at #20 and #2 respectfully.

BATUSHKA & DIABOLICAL Announce Black Liturgy Pilgrimage Tour

Following the very successful Black Rituals tour in northern/central Europe this fall,  Diabolical  and  Batushka are announcing that they are getting together again to do another European tour, this time focusing more on the southern regions of our continent.

Although both bands have had busy tour schedules in recent years, a majority of the shows announced for this tour are in regions that neither band have visited for many years.

Celebrating 25 years as a band, Diabolical are preparing a special set with songs that haven’t been performed live in recent years, but also new material.

“The tour we did with Batushka last fall was far beyond our expectations. The atmosphere and the great attendance at the shows really proved to us that the live scene is very much alive and well, despite the obvious difficulties the last couple of years. So, we felt that we should get back out there again as soon as possible. As always, we aim to bring new material to the table. But since this will be a part of our 25 years anniversary celebrations, we are also aiming to bring some tunes to life that we haven’t played for some time. Can’t wait!” comments guitarist Carl Stjärnlöv.

The band is also aiming to put out new material in 2022, for the first time since the critically acclaimed “Eclipse” (Indie Recordings, 2019)  to join another journey, this time focusing more on the southern regions of our continent.

FEUERSCHWANZ Release ‘Ultima Nocte’ Video from Livestream Event, New Album Out Now

Finally the time has come for the last big highlight of the year – the new FEUERSCHWANZ  album  Memento Mori sees the light of day! The Germans once again do not miss the opportunity to celebrate the release with their fans and can be seen until late evening in the free album release livestream. Besides an exclusive concert, talks with various guests and much more, the fifth official video taken off Memento Mori will be released!
 
In the new video for “Ultima Nocte” FEUERSCHWANZ heat up all warriors with driving guitars and pressing drums on the last night before the battle. A good portion of pyro should not be missing – “Ultima Nocte” is the perfect New Year’s Eve soundtrack!

On the now released Memento Mori FEUERSCHWANZ finally make the step away from the simpler humor of earlier days, to one of the most important bands in German Folk-Rock!
               
With chanting violin playing, Memento Mori starts its heroic journey with its eponymous opener. The song turns out to be a melodic rock anthem with a well-known medieval character, a blazing guitar riff and life-affirming lyrics. On “Untot im Drachenboot”, the squad around Captain Feuerschwanz sets off for new musical shores in a Viking ship full of undead warriors. “Rausch der Barberei”, on the other hand delivers a violent, raw voice and driving drumming that send its listeners into unbridled frenzy. On “Krampus”, FEUERSCHWANZ sing in a canon of vocals and instruments about the ancient legend of the demonic companion of St. Nicholas, who is dressed in fur and a horned mask. On the ballad “Das Herz eines Drachen” (The Heart of a Dragon), the medieval folk rockers show their sensible side. In a fire lit by burning guitar sounds and flute melodies, a warrior mourns his fallen father with his head held high. “Hannibal” on the other hand embarks on a raging battle of powerful choirs, swirling violin and guitar solos and driving drums, led by army commander Hannibal. The crowning finale of the almost 40-minute adventure is provided by “Skaldenmet” with its proudly advancing bass.

In typical FEUERSCHWANZ manner, Memento Mori is about great adventures, past battles and outstanding heroic deeds. FEUERSCHWANZ manage to stay true to their trademarks and at the same time venture into new musical realms. Fans of the band can look forward to an extensive deluxe edition of the album, which extends the running time of Memento Mori by almost double! Two additional CDs feature instrumental versions of all eleven tracks as well as the cover CD Die Glorreichen Sieben (The Magnificent Seven), which includes seven epic reissues from Amon Amarth to Die Ärzte and The Weeknd.

MÜTTERLEIN’s New Album “Bring Down The Flags” Out Now

Five and a half years after the release of “Orphans Of The Black Sun“, MÜTTERLEIN return with a second work of Art. “Bring Down The Flags” consists of six experimental compositions whose strength lies in giving musical form to desperation, anguish, the surreal and the unsettling. Skillfully mixing Black Metal elements, doomy sounds as well as post-Punk savagery, Industrial rhythms and noisy sound collages, artist Marion Leclercq (ex-OVERMARS) crafted a sinister scream of pain, frustration and anger.

Influenced not only by these musical classics ranging from Black Metal to Cold Wave, but especially by radical female (performance) artists like NICO or DIAMANDA GALAS, “Bring Down The Flags” became an uncompromising conceptual work of Art with different layers of meaning to discover. Thus, the album is already highly praised by fans and media alike:

MÜTTERLEIN is the solo project of Marion Leclercq (ex-OVERMARS), composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist.

Adopted in 2014, this pseudonym is a nod to the nightmarish yet fragile work of NICO, who in many ways deconstructed the unbearable myth of ‘femininity’ imposed on us. Musically, MÜTTERLEIN mixes Post-Punk savagery, Doom, Noise, Industrial and Black Metal to create a vast universe of Post-Metal experimentation.

First album, “Orphans Of The Black Sun” – released in 2016 on Sundust Records, a label co-run by Vindsval from BLUT AUS NORD – leaned towards the Post-Punk and Doom registers using minimalist, cold instrumentation to create a record organic and ritualistic as a witch-dance around a fire.

In 2020, MÜTTERLEIN responded to an invitation by the artist LIMBES (ex-BLURR THROWER) to create a mirror piece to his epic 25 minute track entitled “Vérité” (French for Truth) for a split release issued in 2021 by LADLO. The free format allowed MÜTTERLEIN to experiment even further, constructing a slow, desolate dreamscape of doom-laden Dark Ambient.

“Bring Down The Flags“, MÜTTERLEIN‘s second album, will be released in late 2021 by Debemur Morti Productions. Dark, haunting and immediate, the album incorporates more electronic sounds and blackened Industrial atmospheres to serve a more direct subject and voice.
