KRIS BARRAS BAND have taken their gloves off and are steamrolling into the end of the year with their anthemic brand new song, “Dead Horses.” The songs’ foundation-shaking roar is them at their towering best. They will also be joining Kentucky heavyweights Black Stone Cherry on their upcoming 16 date September tour.

“Dead Horses” throws down the gauntlet, shows the band heavier than ever, and upped their stadium-filling sound to eleven. The song is taken from their forthcoming new studio album, produced by Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Bury Tomorrow, Monster Truck), which will be released in 2022 by Mascot Records (Black Stone Cherry, Fozzy, Crobot).

With three albums under their belt to date, the bands’ whirlwind ride has been rapid. From 50 tickets in small Devon bars to 13,000 tickets on their upcoming headline tour, the band have risen-up the ranks to become one of British rocks leading lights. Their breakout album, Light It Up, broke into the UK Top 50 Album Charts, they’ve won best new band awards, had radio smash hits, multiple sold-out tours, performed live on daytime BBC Radio 2 twice, supported the likes of Black Stone Cherry, Therapy? and Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes), not to mention showstopping festival performances and the army of fervent fans they are sweeping up along the way.

Talking about ‘Dead Horses,’ Barras explains, “It’s about the acceptance of a relationship that’s just run its course.” The song is co-written with Johnny Andrews (Three Days Grace, Halestorm, Buckcherry, Fozzy). Talking about the collaboration Barras continues, “this was the first complete song that I had ever properly co-written, and it was an awesome experience working with a guy like Johnny, even if it was done over Zoom during lockdown!”

The video was shot in his home county of Devon and the vast expanse of the moors of Dartmoor. “We managed to get hold of a beautiful 69′ Chevy Camaro,” he says. “I actually jumped in on camera duties for a few scenes, including one hanging out of the back of a car flying through the moors to get some of the driving shots.”

Opening up about the upcoming album, Barras shares, “I really believe that this is a big step up from anything we’ve done before. Everything just fell into place perfectly. From working with top producer Dan Weller to having the time to really work on the songs and fine-tune things. I think the result is a much more hard-hitting album, both musically and lyrically.”

They are set for an incredible 12 months ahead; A sold-out UK tour with Kentucky’s favourite sons Black Stone Cherry, culminating with a show at the world-famous Royal Albert Hall, London, their biggest headline tour to date, followed by playing the iconic Wembley Arena in support of Thunder. Plus, the brand-new album. The sky is the limit.

“I can’t wait!” he says about the upcoming shows. “Everyone has missed live music so much, both the bands and the fans. I think it’s going to feel like one big party! The Black Stone Cherry guys are awesome too, looking forward to catching up with them and getting to watch them every night is an added bonus.”

Continuing he adds, “We’ve announced our headline tour for March 2022. It’s our biggest tour to date, and there’s some venues on there that I’ve always dreamed of headlining! Ticket sales have been amazing so far, so it looks like we’re going to have a good time! We’ll have plenty of new music out there by then too, so it’ll be great to play these new tunes live.”

Barras is also frontman and guitarist for Supersonic Blues Machine, with Fabrizio Grossi on bass and Kenny Aronoff on drums. At times, Billy F. Gibbons (ZZ Top), Steve Lukather (TOTO) and others join the core line-up for special appearances across The World.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information on their upcoming album soon.

The Kris Barras Band are Kris Barras (Vocals/Guitar), Josiah J Manning (Guitar), Kelpie MacKenzie (Bass) and Billy Hammett (Drums).

MASSACRE Reveal New Single “Ruins Of R’lyeh”

Florida’s masters of death metal, MASSACRE, have released searing new single, “Ruins of R’lyeh,” from their highly anticipated 4th full-length album, “Resurgence,” that’s out October 22nd from Nuclear Blast.

Watch the visualizer for “Ruins of R’lyeh”:

Commenting on the upcoming album and new single, vocalist Kam Lee states:
“I’m going to take you back down into the abyss! This track, ‘Ruins of R’lyeh,’ like many of the other’s on the ‘Resurgence’ album are direct sequels to tracks off ‘From Beyond.’ With a purposeful musical connection to the track ‘Cryptic Realms,’ this new song of O.S.D.M. takes the listener back down into the depths of the darkness with a very heavy laden Lovecraftian lyrical direction loosely based on ‘The Call Of Cthulhu.’ Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn (‘In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming.’)”

MASSACRE rose from the swamps of Southern Florida in the early 80’s during a heatwave of groundbreaking death metal that produced some of the genre’s most revered forefathers, DEATH, OBITUARY and SIX FEET UNDER. Their legacy was founded with a string of classic demos, “Aggressive Tyrant” (1986), “Chamber of Ages” (1986) and “The Second Coming” (1990), before unleashing their critically praised classic debut album “From Beyond” (1991). Now decades later, the band makes their long-awaited return, invigorated with the same youthful rage that brought them together at inception. For “Resurgence,” long-time members, vocalist Kam Lee (MANTAS, BONE GNAWER, THE GROTESQUERY) and bassist Mike Borders, were joined in the studio by some of death’s most prolific and malignant songwriters, guitarist Rogga Johansson (PAGANIZER, MEGASCAVENGER, RIB SPREADER), guitarist Jonny Pettersson (WOMBBATH, NATTRAVNEN, HENRY KANE), guitarist Scott Fairfax (MEMORIAM, AS THE WORLD DIES) and drummer Brynjar Helgetun (CRYPTICUS, THE GROTESQUERY) with additional guest performances by Marc Grewe (INSIDIOUS DISEASE), Dave Ingram (BENEDICTION), Anders Odden (CADAVER), and Pete Slate (DRUID LORD) The record was recorded with producer and death metal icon Dan Swanö (ex-Edge of Sanity, ex-Bloodbath) and Pettersson as engineer/mixer.

KORPIKLAANI Release Music Video For Anthrax Cover “Ennen”

Finnish Folk Metal Superstars KORPIKLAANI released their 11th studio album Jylhä back in February 2021. The album was hailed by critics and fans alike as the most elaborate and mature KORPIKLAANI album to date. While this might be true, it doesn’t mean our favourite Finns forgot how to party: during the “Jylhä” sessions they took the classic ANTHRAX banger “Got The Time” (a song originally released in 1978 by British musician JOE JACKSON) and converted it into a typical KORPIKLAANI tune called “Ennen” (“Before”). But that’s not all – they’ve filmed a wild and very entertaining video, shot by Markku Kirves & again starring actor Yrjänä Ermala, which is being released along with the cover song. Enjoy!

“This was the first time a video producer encouraged us to drink while on a video shoot and we were very happy to do as directed!” – Jonne (KORPIKLAANI)

VIDEO DIRECTOR’S WORDS:
“Our old man wakes up and feels dizzy after last nights party. Suddenly, a knock on the door. Memory is weak and because he sees only blurry figures walking around the house, he decides to hide. But is there anything to drink…” – Markku Kirves

Embrace the atmospheric auditory imagery of fantastical valleys of other fairytale dimensions and soon gone fireside bards. Dwell for just a moment in treasuries of dreamlands and ponderings that see mundane things turning into otherworldly miracles. Feel welcomed to embark on endless adventures on long roads untrodden and ships never sailed. As if frozen in time, you’ll be captivated by heart-burstingly elating fare-thee-wells for those dearly departed.

Today AURI‘s album “II-Those We Don´t Speak Of” is finally released, and treats us along with a third single and visualizer: “Kiss The Mountain”.

The song lives and breathes from the beautiful, multiple layered vocals. Sparsly but effective underlining instrumentation makes it a true candidate for a movie soundtrack.

Vocalist Johanna Kurkela muses over the song as follows:
“There’s a place at the edge of an ocean, where wind speaks through lungs of steel. A mountain awaiting a traveler. A dream awaiting a dreamer. You’ve come this far, do you dare to go all the way? Doubt may come and visit, but it’s just another friend along the journey. A gentle reminder of that perfect Kiss Of Life upon arrival. Imagine you’re already there. Find your smile, light a beacon, and let us hear you Roar!” – Johanna

Watch the visualizer here:

Hear the soft words that empower those feeling inadequate and reassurance to others fearing death.
AURI’s are the keys to a dimension of awe no one else sees. Only theirs to offer are the mystical, soundscapes and ethereal vocals.
Theirs to hold are the magical powers that can melt the steeliest of hearts and make grown men cry.
AURI invites the listener along for journeys no other band can provide.
Come, my love – now it‘s calm enough to go.

Originally born in 2011 from the special connection of Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas Holopainen and Troy Donockley, AURI was first introduced to the world as late as 2018. Now complemented by the dynamic percussive talents of Kai Hahto, the threesome carves fantastical worlds entirely their own.

The undisputed masters of blackened deathcore, CARNIFEX, have returned to ignite sonic memories of albums past with the scorch of old-school sound. Today, the band releases their eighth studio album via Nuclear Blast Records. In celebration, the band offers fans the visualizer for the track “Cold Dead Summer”.

CARNIFEX comments, “‘Graveside Confessions’ is available everywhere today, this record is 100% for the fans that kept us alive all these years, come see us on tour and get the record!”

CARNIFEX’s GRAVESIDE CONFESSIONS is no stranger to the harsh world in which it was created. While all of humanity experiences the turmoil of pain, weakness, and betrayal, it is also deeply ingrained in our nature to keep these notions closely protected; to keep them secret. Often as we approach death, we feel an insatiable need to reveal these things to one another; to confess.

CARNIFEX have hit the road with THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER on their 32-date “Up From The Sewer” tour with AFTER THE BURIAL, RIVERS OF NIHIL, and UNDEATH. Catch them live on the following dates:

GHOST BATH: An Insight Into Recording Forthcoming Album “Self Loather”

US atmospheric black metallers GHOST BATH are set to release their fourth full-length album, “Self Loather“ on October 29th via Nuclear Blast Records. On the album, the band closes out the trilogy – tragedy, ecstasy, and dread/hatred – and hosts their most devastating and dark music to date.

Frontman Dennis Mikula has shared an insight into the recording of the album, exclusively with Metal Shock Finland. He outlines the equipment used and how he personally prepared for and approached the recording process. An interview will coming up nearer the release of “Self Loather”.

Dennis explained:

“Prior to the recording process for the Self Loather album, I knew I needed to approach things different than ever before. I had experimented with a Keto diet before while training in boxing and knew the type of energy and focused mind it had given me, so I decided that could be a good place to start. Eventually, I developed my daily rules and regiments as the following:

No Sugar
No alcohol
Fasting for 16 hours a day
50 grams or less a day of carbs
Run for 1 Mile a day
Lift for 1 hour a day
Practice Guitar through the album once, alone, with a candle burning in the dark to better my memorization and my wrist endurance
Practice vocals through at least 1 song a day, with warm ups beforehand

I ended up following this perfectly for two months (Around 60 days) prior and during the recording of Self Loather. It ended up being an interesting experience, and one that I believe put me in the best mindset, and the best physically, I could have been to complete the grueling recording process.

Not only do I believe each element of this had their own unique contribution, but I think that the act itself of getting into a strict routine, a ritual of sorts, put me in a place I could never have been otherwise.

Our sound is just an extension of this philosophy. I strive to use instruments that are not common in the craft of metal, and especially black metal. I strongly prefer single coil guitars, namely a telecaster. And I use an Orange Rockerverb.

For this album in particular, I bought all new gear. An extensive list of parts from gold-plated Mogami cables, to Fender Tre-Verb pedals, to a brand new Fender American Original 60’s Telecaster. I even used the vintage ‘57 grey bottom pickups. The vintage style guitar really set my tone apart on this record and I could be more happy with it.

Overall, I think my message is to try something new. Try something different. Don’t just accept a certain way of doing things or a certain way of playing just because everyone does it. Because then all you’ll create is a boring cookie-cutter sound. Make art. Make YOUR art.”

Check out the new video for ‘Convince Me To Bleed’:

The video was edited and directed by Austin Scherzberg as well as written and co-directed by John Olivier.

GHOST BATH’s fourth full-length sets the mood meter to desolation/antipathy—and never quite lets go. Produced by the band with Xander Moser engineering at Tree Speak Recording Studio in Minneapolis and mixed by Jack Shirley (DEAFHEAVEN, BOSSE-DE-NAGE) at The Atomic Garden Recording Studios in Oakland, “Self Loather” is a sonic exercise in shadow, nuance, and, most of all, power. The band enlisted Zdzisław Beksiński to create the cover artwork which was licensed through the Muzeum Historyczne w Sanoku.

 “Self Loather” Track List:

  1. Convince Me to Bleed
  2. Hide from the Sun  (feat. CJ McMahon of THY ART IS MURDER)
  3. Shrines of Bone
  4. Sanguine Mask
  5. Crystal Lattice
  6. Sinew and Vein (feat. Graf of PSYCHONAUT 4)
