AT THE GATES Launch New Single/Video For “The Paradox”

Today Swedish melodic death metal pioneers AT THE GATES are debuting the second single/video “The Paradox” off their upcoming album “The Nightmare Of Being”, to be released July 2nd, 2021 via Century Media Records.

Check out the track “The Paradox” in a video-clip directed by Patric Ullaeus / www.rEvolver.se (Arch Enemy, In Flames, Dimmu Borgir, etc.) here:

AT THE GATES vocalist Tomas Lindberg Redant commented about “The Paradox” and its video as follows:

“Humanity is the biggest paradox. We as humans always want justification for the big things: death, the meaning of life, etc. Our knowledge of being mortals drives us away from being human, hence the paradox. We invent defense mechanisms to protect us from the thought of death, religion, different –isms, etc.

This first time our producer Jens Bogren heard this song, he said “This is a monster!”. It touches on some core parts of the At The Gates sound, but builds further, on top of that, some classic NWOBHM/Mercyful Fate vibes thrown in for good measure. It is a death metal song, but has its progressive moments. Enjoy!

This was a very fun video to record, as we tried to create most of the “special effects” in an analog way, and not just to be added in the editing. Hence we were drenched in tons of crushed coal and soil, which took over a week and a lot of showers to get out of our hair, haha. We really wanted an oppressive, apocalyptic emotion for this video. And Patric Ullaeus, being the master that he is, went all the way to make that happen!”

Also check out the previously released clip for the album’s opening track “Spectre of Extinction” here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oNKxMkHavAw

While main parts for “The Nightmare Of Being” were recorded in Sweden at several different studios – Drums at Studio Gröndal with Jens Bogren, guitars and bass with Andy La Rocque at Sonic Train Studio and vocals at Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg -, the album was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street Studios (Amon Amarth, Opeth, Kreator, etc.) by Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with AT THE GATES on their “At War With Reality” comeback album from 2014. The album’s visual concept was developed by artist Eva Nahon.

The tracklisting of “The Nightmare Of Being” will be as follows:

  1. Spectre of Extinction
  2. The Paradox
  3. The Nightmare of Being
  4. Garden of Cyrus
  5. Touched by the White Hands of Death

ENSLAVED Reveal ‘Fenris’ Live Video & Single

Left-field metal luminaries ENSLAVED have revealed the next audiovisual gem taken from their forthcoming Cinematic Tour 2020 live releases. As part of their 30th anniversary revelries, the band has today premiered a live video for their single ‘Fenris’. A classic track from their early arsenal- though black metal to its core, ‘Fenris’ nevertheless hinted at their kosmische obsessions that lurked behind the curtain.

This performance of ‘Fenris’ is taken from their upcoming live release Chronicles of the Northbound (Cinematic Tour 2020), which sees Enslaved fly through a career spanning entirely fan-voted set of favourites. It is one part of their four new live album/DVD Cinematic Tour 2020 collection due to be released on June 25th.

Enslaved’s Grutle Kjellson commented,
“Fenris was perhaps the first song we wrote that got a massive encore demand, and before we actually had a lot of songs to pick from, we even played it twice during a set… haha. So, since all the songs on the Chronicles of the Northbound set was handpicked and voted for by our fans, it wasn’t a big shock that the grand old wolf was among the chosen ones.
Fenris has been present on many of our setlists for pretty close to 30 years now, and it is still a great song for both ourselves to perform and for the audience to absorb. It’s a very energetic song, and its lyrical concept deals with letting the energy flow naturally without trying to enslave (bish!) it. The consequences can be fatal if you keep the wolf in captivity for too long. Let loose your inner wolf, the inevitable tide, and enjoy!”

Never faltering, Norway’s iconic Enslaved continue to exist as one of the most original and dependable components in our scene’s indestructible backbone. Possessing the reputation as one of the most riveting live acts around, they never fail to offer us talent of the highest calibre, always doing justice to their signature black/progressive sound. Enslaved was formed in 1991 by Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson releasing their first demo Yggdrasill in the summer of 1992, their legendary mini-album Hordanes Land coming out in 1993 with debut full length Vikingligr Veldi arriving in the spring of 1994.

Enslaved in 2021 is a band in stellar form, a band at its most existentialist and self-conscious, proud Bergeners bearing the torch of their hometown’s extraordinary musical history. Latest album Utgard has shown them at a stage where simply everything they touch turns to gold. Icy black metal anthems walk hand in hand with refined prog rock gems and primordial, dark folk sorcery. It’s Enslaved to the bone. And yet again a band that cast off its old skin, delivering some of their shortest songs in years while still packing them with glimmering detail. It is a journey into and through scary Utgard, showing Enslaved both unleashed and thought-through – a lethal combination unfurling a potential that’s easily rekindling the furor of their early works while dancing gracefully through their most ambitious, most haunting and most musical tunes yet. A contradiction? Life itself is a contradiction. And yet we all live to prove it wrong

Dual-Bass Trio THE OMNIFIC Release New Video/Single ‘Wax & Wane’

Australian progressive instrumentalists, THE OMNIFIC – featuring the unique line up of two bass players and a drummer – have streamed their new single/video ‘Wax & Wane’, out now via Wild Thing Records.

Bassist Toby Peterson-Stewart comments: “After 2 years of being hidden away working on our craft, it’s exciting to finally share new music. ‘Wax & Wane’ explores the natural ebbs & flows of musical inspiration, a concoction of riffs developed during the Covid lockdown. Throughout the song & music video, elements both audible and visible have been reversed and altered, giving meaning to the name. We are incredibly appreciative of the team we have assisting us, creating a coherent visual representation (artwork and music video) that enhances the music we create.”

Stream: smarturl.it/theomnific

After releasing three stunning EPs the band have attracted interest and fans from all corners of the globe clocking in over five million Spotify streams and two million views on their Youtube channel. The Omnific’s accessible style is for all music lovers; from those seeking to be challenged to those who wish to be blanketed by atmosphere, creating an identifiable sound and truly global fan base. With swirling textures, syncopation, euphoric highs and melancholic lows, The Omnific are truly captivating.

The band have established working relationships with reputable companies Darkglass Electronics, Neural DSP and Dingwall Guitars, seeing them represent the brands with performances at the Melbourne Guitar Show, bringing attention amongst the ‘Gear-Nerd’ community. Coupled with their online play-through, gear demo and music videos, the band’s reach is beyond what many would expect from this impressive Melbourne trio so early in their career.

They are also no stranger to the live circuit with a stack of domestic and international touring under their belt, having toured with Between the Buried and Me (Australian Tour) Cog (Sold Out Australian Tour), Intervals & Sithu Aye (European Tour), several of their own headline Australian tours as well as supporting Ne Obliviscaris, Galactic Empire, Circles and others.

Melancholic metallers SOMBRIA have released a new single and music video. The track is a cover of Schiller‘s Tired which is found on their Sehnsucht album.

The band comments:
“Tired is a unique and very powerful song originally created by Schiller, containing a dramatic and deeply emotional background. This is what we had in mind working on this song. Having a big respect towards Schiller’s music, we decided to bring this piece closer to our music genre, emphasizing the melancholy and the hidden ‘’sorrow’’ that surrounds it.

Also, we took the opportunity to add our own message through the music video, highlighting the sensation of agony and despair that so many of us meticulously hide for all kind of reasons. Our identity is our most sacred strength in life, it’s a shell hiding our self-esteem, individuality and qualities that is the reason we need to protect it, feel proud and flaunt it!

This video is dedicated to all the unique souls that feel oppressed and frightened to express themselves freely.”

CIRCLE OF SIGHS Share Animated Short Film For “Spectral Arms”

Following their critically acclaimed 2020- debut album “Salo”, June 4th 2021 will see progressive-synth-doom-collective CIRCLE OF SIGHS to release their hotly anticipated sophomore full length record, titled “Narci”, on Metal Assault Records.

Carving out their very own niche within the genre, adopting a style that very few acts even attempt to approach, the band’s upcoming release features eight epic yet individual chapters that will take you on a journey to previously unimagined spheres. After the previously- released singles, Heaven In Flames, We Need Legends as well as the epic album title track, today the anonymous collective unleashed a music video for the new single “Spectral Arms”!

Created in the style of an impressive and animated short film by Costin Chioreanu, who is well known for his work for bands like Opeth, Voivod, Napalm Death (and many more), “Spectral Arms was inspired by Ernest Becker’s book, The Denial of Death“ the Spokesperson of the band states.

“Specifically, it is about mortality sentience and what Becker referred to as our “immortality projects.” In other words, the things we self-aware humans do to ensure we’re remembered after we are gone. Some of these things are good. For example, most artworks — even this song frankly — are really just immortality projects. Some of these things are quite bad: wars, mass shootings, fascism. But at the center of them all is ego and ego function happens to be the overarching concept of our forthcoming album, Narci.”

Furthermore he explains: “We had seen a number of animated videos that we found intriguing and thought this style would mesh perfectly with the album’s leadoff song, “Spectral Arms.” As we investigated further we discovered that all of these videos were actually created by the same artist, Costin Chioreanu. So we emailed Costin and found that our creative approaches really gelled. He’s not just a brilliant visual artist but also a brilliant musician, so he had a particular sensitivity to what we were trying to achieve sonically and visually. We agreed that we should approach this not as just a “promotional asset,” but as a standalone work of art. A short film set to music. We gave no real direction to Costin, just a set of lyrics and the elevator pitch for the album’s themes. We wanted him to explore these themes in the way that best made sense to him. Needless to say, we were blown away by the results.”

“Narci” will be coming out on June 4th via Metal Assault Records and is available for pre-order at THIS LOCATION

Tracklist:

01. Spectral Arms
02. We Need Legends
03. A Crystal Crown of Cosmic Pain
04. Roses Blue
05. Segue 04
06. Narci
07. Heaven in Flames
08. The Man Who Stole the Wind

SPIRAL GRAVE Reveal Album Details & Share Brand New Music Video

Maryland/Virginia- based doom metal veterans SPIRAL GRAVE have finally revealed more details about their upcoming album, entitled Legacy of the Anointed.

SPIRAL GRAVE, comprised of extraordinary vocalist Screaming Mad Dee, Iron Louis Strachan (bass), Mot Waldmann  on drums and former LORD guitarist Willy Rivera, was born in 2018 after the tragic death of their longtime band mate, Alfred Morris III, founding member of iconic IRON MAN.

Setting the mood for a classic heavy as hell and in your face doom, SPIRAL GRAVE  quickly carved a place for themselves in North America’s heavy music scene, playing well-received sets at New England Stoner Doom Fest or the Maryland Doomfest. Ever since the release of their first single, Nothing, in mid-2019, fans have been impatiently waiting for the band’s first full-length album. But finally, the wait is over: SPIRAL GRAVE’s Legacy of the Anointed will be out on July 16, 2021 through Italy’s powerhouse label Argonauta Records!

Today, SPIRAL GRAVE have released a first music video taken from their upcoming debut. Says vocalist “Screaming Mad” Dee Calhoun: “The song is based on the HP Lovecraft story “The Dunwich Horror,” and tells the first half of the story. It is meant to be a companion to the Iron Man track “Thy Brother’s Keeper (Dunwich pt. 2),” which appeared on the album South of the Earth.” Where the Iron Man track focused on Wilbur Whateley’s brother, “Nightmare” focuses on Wilbur himself.”

Watch SPIRAL GRAVE’s video for the epic album opening track, “Nightmare on May Eve (Dunwich pt. 1)”, here:

“Some of the musical ideas that ended up as songs on our debut were initially written while I was still with my previous band but with a rift growing between myself and the other members over personal and musical differences, I decided to hold onto them til I was able to find the right vehicle for them.“ GuitaristWilly Rivera recently said about SPIRAL GRAVE‘s upcoming debut.

“I wanted to step away from the extremity of my former band and get back to writing songs that were heavy but had hooks and a strong vocal presence. For this band, I wanted to draw from bands such as Dio-era Sabbath, Candlemass, Metal Church, Armored Saint, Mountain, UFO and Judas Priest with enough experimentation that would allow us to branch out on future releases. I wanted that to be the template and I found like-minded friends in the surviving members of Iron Man. I’ve known Dee for over a decade and met Lou and Mot from the scene and affiliations and while I knew working with them would bring certain expectations due to the legendary status of Iron Man, I was hopeful in what we could create and had a gut feeling that it would be great. I was very aware of the fact that you only get one shot to make your 1st impression and being that I was writing a lot of the initial ideas, it meant that I had a lot to prove…not to mention, the scrutiny that I may encounter from people who perceived me as somehow trying to replace Al Morris but you can’t replace a legend so you just try to make your own mark. So Spiral Grave is a new band with a debut album that I think will do justice to not only the scene we come from but those who helped pave the way…“

Legacy of the Anointed Tracklist:

  1. Nightmare on May Eve (Dunwich pt. 1)
  2. Modern Day Golden Calf
  3. Out Of My Head
  4. Nothing
  5. Your Enemy‘s Enemy
  6. Walking Talking Dead Man
  7. Tanglefoot
  8. Abgrund

Legacy of the Anointed will be released on July 16, 2021 via Argonauta Records, the album pre-sale has just started at THIS LOCATION!
