CHERIE CURRIE Teams with Rising Star ESSEX for Explosive New Single + Video ‘When You’re Young’

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 26, 2026
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: Cherie Currie, Essex. Leave a comment

Fresh from her no-holds-barred contributions to last year’s Yacht Metal collection – a breathtaking cover of Walter Egan’s “Magnet and Steel,” Runaways legend Cherie Currie is back with both a dynamic new single, and a cross-generational collaboration that cross-pollinates the legacy of classic new wave with a confrontational take on contemporary modern-rock edge.

A glorious slab of early eighties UK new wave, originally recorded by Victims of Pleasure, “When You’e Young” also features – and for many listeners, introduces – special guest Essex, the singularly-named superstar-in-waiting poised to land at the precise intersection of Duran Duran’s sleek pulse, Billy Idol’s swagger, and Joy Division’s shadow.

It’s a potent combination. Hailing from Chicago, IL, Essex is a dynamic rock’n;’roll singer, dedicated to reviving the raw, unapologetic spirit of rock for the masses. Drawing inspiration from icons like Idol,  Marc Bolan, David Bowie, and James Brown, his sound draws from a time when guitars and synths hit hard, songs were built to last, and authenticity mattered more than trends, or being flashy and glammy.

Essex’s swagger blends exquisitely with Currie’s mystique and majesty, and Die Krupps mainman Jurgen Engler‘s electrifying production to creates a bold, uncompromising sound custom built for today’s alternative landscape.

Cherie says, “I have recorded with Cleopatra Records for over 27 years so when I was approached to sing ‘When You’re Young,’ I thought it was business as usual until Brian, the president decided this was to be a duet with a new, up and coming talent named Essex.

“When we met for the music video I was completely convinced of his talent. Billy Idol would be proud with this man’s presence. By the time the shoot was finished, I was in love! What a talented, and beautiful human being. After 50 years in this crazy biz it’s a breath of fresh air to find such a grateful and gracious man. He gives me hope for this nutty music business.”

Essex adds, “it was an unbelievable honour to work with somebody that has inspired me since I was a kid. Working with her was insanely easy. we got along just naturally.”

Exciting, too, is the news that Essex himself is currently at work on both an upcoming single and, later in the year, his full length debut album, its dark-edged fulled guitars and synths, commanding melodies, and sharp, aggressive bite channeling the raw electricity of the MTV-era ’80s at their peak , even as they charge forward with modern grit and venomous danger. This is music built on volume, emotion, and conviction, hooks you can shout, grooves you can feel, and a presence that refuses to be ignored.

Learn more about Essex in a brand new Pirate Radio Cleopatra podcast – Introducing Essex – available on Mixcloud, YouTube and your favorite podcast platform.

And, as you will discover, “When You’re Young” is the ideal introduction to Essex, and a welcome return for Currie, a supercharged collision of eras, attitude, and influence, as momentous as it is memorable, and as unique as the talents that voice it.  Or, as Essex puts it, “I think the song is very brilliant. It applies to everything right now, just by looking back to good times, when people were young and having fun.”

WICKED Release New Single ‘Go Rebel’ from Upcoming Album

In a world full of conflict, drama, and 30 second attention spans, WICKED is here to give it to you straight, with another single off their upcoming album.

“Go Rebel” is the theme song for those who have the passion to live their life loud and express themselves with no apology!

Rock N Roll should be fun, and this single is for those who “kick ass,” but with smiles on their faces.

Get ready for WICKED’s second single off the upcoming, self-titled, full length (13 song) album due summer of 2026.

“Go Rebel” is a jumping hard rock anthem off the heels of the melodic/heavy first single “Obsession” and has a direct call to action for the listeners; “Make Me Go Rebel!”

Out now, the party starts and “Go Rebel” is available on all streaming platforms!

Everyone loves a good party anthem to stomp their hands and clap their feet to! We wanted a single that would make people excited to have fun and get loud. – Danny

Do you know what it means to “Go Rebel?” Have you ever just let your guard down and unapologetically let loose? The single gets right to it and commands the listener to turn it up. Need a reason? Listen to the verses, we’ll give you a few! – Chad Michael

We were listening to a lot of Jet (band) at the time of writing “Go Rebel” and just loved how it felt to crank a straight up guitar rock song on the stereo. Every album needs an anthem that brings people together with their glasses raised and hands in the air – Scotty V

This band is full of motorheads, and we surround ourselves with muscle cars and big engines. I think that side of us crept into the writing of “Go Rebel!” From the thumping heartbeat of the bass and drums to the drum breakdown that sounds like a 396 big-block engine idling at the starting line of a dragstrip. It’s time for you to do whatever makes you “Go Rebel!” – Gunnar

DYING AWKWARD ANGEL Return with Powerful New Single ‘The Fallen’ from New Album

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 26, 2026
Posted in: Int. News, News. Tagged: DYING AWKWARD ANGEL. Leave a comment

Italian melodic death metallers Dying Awkward Angel unveil their new single “The Fallen”, a track that fully embodies the band’s identity and sonic direction.

Taken from the album “The Missing Frame”, released via Rockshots Records, “The Fallen” represents the essence of Dying Awkward Angel’s sound: the cold precision of Swedish melodic death metal fused with the raw aggression of American thrash and death metal, delivered with a modern and uncompromising approach.

Formed in 1998 in Turin by guitarist and main composer Edoardo Demuro, the band has built a solid reputation within the underground metal scene, sharing the stage with acts such as Decapitated, Impaled Nazarene, Necronomicon, Forgotten Tomb, and Node. Over the years, they have developed a distinctive style rooted in the Gothenburg tradition while maintaining a strong and personal identity.

With “The Missing Frame”, the band pushed their sound further than ever before, faster, heavier, and more direct, described by the band themselves as “a brutal and honest cooperation between us all.”

“The Fallen” captures the album’s core themes of duality, control, and inner conflict, translating them into a track that is both melodic and relentless.

“Imagine an old and charismatic boss who says: I spoiled my children…but they talk instead of listening,” adds the band.

A reflection on authority, legacy, and the moment when control slips away.

Recorded at Bottleneck Studios in Turin and produced by the band, “The Missing Frame” stands as a powerful statement of intent, balancing tradition and evolution within the melodic death metal genre.

NORNA Stream New Single ‘Norna 3’ from Upcoming Split EP with Legbiter

Posted by tarjavirmakari on February 26, 2026

Swedish noisemakers Norna have unveiled their tempestuous head-banger of a new single ‘Norna 3’. This is the third single taken from their upcoming split EP with Legbiter, out 20th March via Pelagic Records.

Pre-order the split EP and stream ‘Norna 3’ here: https://orcd.co/legbiterxnorna

In ‘Norna 3’, the vocals work as a chaotic textual layer, drums resonate with physical presence, guitar and bass retain groove whilst being drenched in heaviness; working with discomfort and resonance until meaning begins to surface. Their sound is expansive and deliberate, built on massive low-end, tectonic rhythms, and an acute sense of restraint. Norna leave listeners hovering in suspension before collapsing inward or surging forward with crushing inevitability. There is a cinematic quality to their work that invokes environment, mood, and psychological immersion.

From the cold North of Sweden, Norna  and Legbiter‘s split EP is a six-track document of contrast, convergence, and uncompromising heavy music. Bringing together two distinct voices, the release explores the many shapes heaviness can take—stretching from crushing, slow-moving atmospheres to sharp, volatile bursts of aggression.

Formed by musicians with deep roots in the European underground, Norna approach heaviness as a vehicle for emotional gravity. Their sound is expansive and deliberate, built on massive low-end, tectonic rhythms, and an acute sense of restraint.

Legbiter approach heavy music as direct, confrontational, and unrelentingly physical. Rooted in hardcore and metal’s most ferocious intersections, the band thrives on immediacy and impact. Legbiter compress time, delivering short, explosive bursts that hit with the force of a live wire. Their sound is lean, aggressive, and unapologetically raw.

“Even though we sound very different sonically I think we all have a lot of common ground, not only in being parts of the 90’s scenes, but also musically in the somewhat dissonant and harsh guitar parts”, says Legbiter guitarist Rickard Nordström. “Personally, I love splits with bands that don’t sound exactly the same, but share some common traits and vibes.”

“Contrast is everything, we have always tried to flow between despair and beauty. Dynamics are important to us. This split will give you that contrast”, comments Norna guitarist and vocalist and former Breach vocalist Tomas Liljedahl.

Norna work with discomfort and resonance until meaning begins to surface. Their sound is dense, immersive and moves with deliberate weight, unfolding gradually and allowing tension to accumulate over time. Guitars loom and resonate, drums seismic, and the overall pacing encourages full absorption. There is an understanding that heaviness is as much about space, patience, and emotional depth as it is about volume or distortion. Vocals in function as another textural layer. When they surface, they do so with intent: raw, human, and confrontational.
“These songs pretty much reflect what we do musically and sonically right now. Create as much destruction with as little means as possible, raw and true”, says Lijedahl.

Track list:

  1. Legbiter – Worms
  2. Legbiter – Speedball
  3. Legbiter – Major Motion
  4. Norna – Norna 1
  5. Norna – Norna 2

Sweden’s sleaze/metal stalwarts Confess are excited to share the new single and official visualizer, “Metalmorphosis”, title track of their upcoming fourth studio album, set for release on May 15, 2026, via Frontiers Music Srl.

The band commented: “The track marks a bold step forward in both sound and attitude. “Metalmorphosis” is something new and refreshingly different, delivering relentless energy, driving riffs, and a powerful sonic punch that refuses to hold back. It’s a statement of evolution.”

Pre-Order “Metalmorphosis” HERE

Swedish rockers Confess are finally back with their long awaited fourth record, their most ambitious album to date marking a bold evolution in their sound.

The band described “Metalmorphosis” in the following way: “It’s definitely the ten most well-crafted songs we’ve ever written, both music and lyric wise. It’s fully packed with heavy riffing, big choruses and a whole new level of dynamics. We’ve pushed ourselves harder than ever and it really shows”.

“The album is mixed and mastered by Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse) and he has really taken the band’s sound to a whole new level”, they added.

While staying true to the gritty, hard-hitting energy that has defined the band since their early days in Stockholm, “Metalmorphosis” expands their musical palette with more commercially resonant material, crafting a sound that is both polished and explosively energetic.

Fronted by John Elliot, whose commanding vocals have also been showcased with the legendary Crashdiet, Confess demonstrate a rare balance of raw sleaze-metal grit and melodic sophistication.

On drums, Samuel Samael drives the rhythm with precision and power, while Ludwig Nordlander and Asser Hakala weave dynamic guitar textures that range from shredding riffs to soaring solos. Bassist Lucky anchors the band with a solid low-end punch, rounding out a lineup that is firing on all cylinders.

Since their formation, Confess have earned a reputation for their relentless commitment to the sleaze/metal aesthetic, infusing their work with memorable hooks, arena-ready choruses, and a devil-may-care attitude.

With “Metalmorphosis”, the band take this ethos to a new level, delivering songs that are as catchy as they are ferocious, and as bold as they are accessible. It’s a record that will appeal to longtime fans of the band while opening doors to a wider audience, showcasing Confess at their most confident and inspired yet.

“Metalmorphosis” is not just another entry in the band’s discography – it’s a statement of artistic growth, a powerful celebration of sleaze-metal craftsmanship, and a must-hear for anyone who loves hard-hitting, melodic rock with attitude.

One of the most distinctive and promising names in the Finnish metal scene, Rioghan, continues unveiling the story of their upcoming ‘Frozen EP’ with the release of the new single “Chapter IV: 520”, accompanied by a stunning music video.

Blending modern metal, dark pop vibes, and progressive hooks, ‘Frozen EP’ is conceived as one continuous composition. The EP’s journey originates from the band’s striking Madonna reinterpretation, but it extends far deeper — both musically and narratively. The story of the EP, inspired by poetry written by vocalist Rioghan Darcy, forms a cohesive emotional arc.

“The EP is about very brief but meaningful moments,” Darcy explains. “At first, a frozen heart reaches a point where it dares to open up and slowly begins to warm. The ice starts to melt, and after shedding its first tears, the heart cautiously opens the door and invites love back in. The sky opens with the break of light, and unfurled wings catch the wind. Ultimately, it represents letting go of the themes explored on the ‘Kept’ album. It marks the end of one era and the beginning of another.”

Numbers 520 in the title originates from internet slang, meaning “I love you”. Within the EP’s storyline, the track plays a pivotal role, while musically it stands as one of the record’s most infectious highlights.

As the only physical format, Rioghan will release an extremely limited vinyl edition of just 25 copies. The blue & white marble vinyl is divided into five separate five-copy editions, each featuring different cover artwork. The exclusive package also includes a necklace, signed poster and a hand-written sheet of lyrics. Pre-order your copy here.

The Frozen EP will be released on April 10. Recorded and mixed by guitarist Teemu Liekkala, the EP was mastered by Grammy-nominated and award-winning engineer Robin Schmidt.

Frozen EP tracklist:

  1. Frozen
  2. Moment
  3. Teardrop
  4. 520
  5. Sky

Spring 2026 is shaping up to be remarkable season for the band. On March 9, Rioghan will perform at the legendary Kulttuuritalo in Helsinki alongside globally acclaimed alternative act grandson. The band will also tour Finland with I Am Your God and appear at the first edition of Ankea Festival sharing the stage with acts such as Katatonia, Leprous, Textures and Green Carnation.

Rioghan will celebrate the EP release on April 10 at Bar Kotelo in Tampere, joined by Time Primer and Joviac for a night dedicated to progressive music.

“We have a really exciting spring ahead of us. We’re hitting the road with brand-new songs, and along the way we’ll be sharing stages with some truly amazing artists! Supporting grandson takes us at the legendary Kulttuuritalo for the first time, and in June we’ll be playing at the very first edition of Ankea Festival, which our whole crew is really looking forward to. We’d probably be there together even if we weren’t performing!”, Teemu Liekkala comments.
