As yesterday reported, IRON MAIDEN’s bassist/founder STEVE HARRIS has premiered today the video for the track ‘This Is My God’, the track comes off his new solo album, British Lion, watch the video below:
IRON MAIDEN are not only the first international act to announce their appearance at the new National Stadium – they are also the first rock act to sell it out!
Spectacular ticket demand for Maiden was once again so great that the show sold out as quickly as the ticket system could handle – record breaking for this new 50,000 capacity Stockholm stadium.
The venue, Friends Arena, has a roof which means that for the first time ever in Sweden, Iron Maiden fans will be able to enjoy the full glory of the entire Maiden England show in a dark stadium on July 13th.
“This Is My God”, the new video from IRON MAIDEN bassist/founder Steve Harris‘s solo/side project album, “British Lion”, will make its online debut tomorrow (Tuesday, October 2) at 6:00 p.m.
“British Lion” was released in the U.S. on September 25 via Universal Music Enterprises (UMe). Mixed by Kevin Shirley — whose credits include IRON MAIDEN as well as Led ZEPPELIN, JOURNEY and RUSH, among many others — the CD, which features Harris alongside vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists Graham Leslie and David Hawkins and drummer Simon Dawson, presents a different side of the bassist’s musical visions.
Asked where the impetus for “British Lion” came from, Harris told Classic Rock magazine, “How it started was that Graham Leslie came to me with a cassette of songs — which shows how long ago it was! — and I thought they were really good, so I said I’d try to help his band do something. I ended up managing them and producing them and writing with them, although I kept that fact under wraps, to the point where even some people in the band didn’t know. Anyway, when that band imploded I thought, ‘Well, I’ve got to do something with this,’ because I thought the songs were so strong.”
He continued, “Over the years I’ve kept in touch with Richie and Graham, and then Richie was working with another guitarist called David Hawkins, who’s a really talented guy, and so we started writing songs together. So on the album there are six songs written with Richie and David, there’s one with just me and Richie, and the others are me, Richie, Graham and a couple of other guys that were around at the time.”
“British Lion” comprises ten songs that Steve and his collaborators have been working on between IRON MAIDEN tours and releases and is described by Harris as “’70s-influenced, British-sounding hard rock.” “I’d say it’s more mainstream rock than metal… and quite commercial… but good commercial,” he said. “There’s all kinds of stuff going on, with nods to THE WHO and UFO and some classic British rock bands, but it’s not the progressive rock album some might be expecting.”
On the topic of why this is the right time for a Steve Harris solo album, the IRON MAIDEN bassist told Classic Rock, “Because it’s ready, it’s finally, finally ready. The guys have been waiting very patiently for years for me, and it’s been frustrating at time, but what can I do?! I’m so busy with MAIDEN. People have already said to me, ‘Are you going to do this instead of MAIDEN?’ and I’m like, ‘Of course not!’ MAIDEN is always going to be the priority — always has been and always will be — but it’s interesting and exciting to try new things.”
He added, “On the early [IRON MAIDEN] albums, most of the songs are mine, but as we’ve gone into different eras with different people writing, there’s been more and more collaborations. And I think it’s been important for MAIDEN to do that rather than have me dictating everything. But I have bags full of ideas, so many that I couldn’t record them all in my lifetime, and I tried out a few different things on this, because I had the time to do experiment.”

Having recently completed the North American leg of the “Maiden England World Tour”, one of the most successful rock tours of the summer, IRON MAIDEN will now be storming across Europe in 2013 playing stadiums, major festivals and arenas with this critically acclaimed show. The first date to be announced is at the U.K.’s Download festival on Saturday, June 15 when MAIDEN return to the legendary Donington Park to headline for a record fifth time! (following 1988,1992, 2003 and 2007).
That achievement is equally significant as 2013 is the 25th anniversary of MAIDEN first topping the bill there in 1988 when the festival was known as Monsters Of Rock attracting 107,000 fans, which is still the highest attendance ever at Donington. This was during their “Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son” tour, from which the current tour draws much of its inspiration for both set list and production as seen in the 1988 long form concert video “Maiden England”, making this Download appearance even more unique!
Part one of a new video intervie with MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson conducted by Metal Hammer magazine about the upcoming Download appearance and the band’s past Donington performances can be seen below.
Said Dickinson: “We were completely overwhelmed by the reaction from our North American fans to the ‘Maiden England’ tour, which was our most extensive tour there for many years. Some of the cities we played we hadn’t visited in over twenty years so had no idea what to expect! But the opening night in Charlotte was packed to the rafters and the crowd was amazing. This continued throughout making the whole tour very special. We had a lot of fun playing the older songs there and the fans seemed to love the set list and Eddie‘s various incarnations! We all can’t wait to bring this show to our European fans.”
“We’re absolutely over the moon to be headlining Donington again. The idea of returning exactly 25 years later with a show inspired by that same 1988 ‘Seventh Son’ tour was too good an opportunity to be missed! And, thanks to modern technology, we’ve been able to update and improve on the original production. We will be bringing a huge new lightshow, stage set, various incarnations of Eddie, plenty of pyro and all kinds of other exciting stuff for the fans. And, of course, treating the fans to lots of their favourite songs from that period!
“We’ve had many great times at Donington and there is always a wonderful mix of bands and a really wild crowd who love their metal, all of which makes for a memorable show and fantastic party atmosphere!”
Added MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris: “We know how popular the ‘History Of Maiden’ tours are with fans of all ages, so we want to take the show to as many places as we possibly can around Europe, taking with us the full production we had in North America. We had a huge amount of fun with the set list as we got to play songs we’d not played in a very long time like ‘Seventh Son’, ‘The Prisoner’ and ‘Afraid To Shoot Strangers’, as well as fan favorites like ‘The Trooper’, ‘Aces High’, ‘The Number Of The Beast’, ‘Wasted Years’ and ‘Run To The Hills’. The opening leg of the tour was so enjoyable for the whole band we’re really looking forward to taking it to our fans in Europe, and, of course, Donington”.
Many more European dates will be announced over the next few months.
Global rock royalty from such bands as IRON MAIDEN, SLIPKNOT, WHITESNAKE, CHICKENFOOT, THE CULT, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, DEEP PURPLE, JUDAS PRIEST, SLAYER and BLACK SABBATH took part in last night’s (Saturday, September 22) Marshall 50th-anniversary event at Wembley Arena in London, England. The luminaries celebrated the life and work of revolutionary amp pioneer Jim Marshall with an unparalleled display of rock virtuosity.
Following the sad news of Jim‘s death in April, the event, which was already planned to commemorate Marshall‘s 50th anniversary, was ultimately held in honor of the legendary man and his remarkable life.
IRON MAIDEN‘s Nicko McBrain compèred the event and was joined by the world’s most legendary guitarists, acclaimed musicians and Marshall enthusiasts.

Marshall died in April at the age of 88. A message posted at the web site of Marshall Amplification, the company he founded 50 years ago, stated, “Jim‘s ascent into the history books as ‘the Father of Loud’ and the man responsible for ‘the Sound of Rock’ is a true rags-to-riches tale. Cruelly robbed of his youth by tubercular bones, Jim rose to become one of the four forefathers responsible for creating the tools that allowed rock guitar as we know and love it today to be born. The groundbreaking quartet also included the late, great trio of Leo Fender, Les Paul and Seth Lover — together with Jim, they truly are the cornerstones of all things rock.”
The site described Marshall as “a legendary man who led a full and truly remarkable life.”
The cause of Marshall‘s death was not announced.
A former singer, drummer and music shop owner, Marshall eventually landed a job as an electrical engineer that helped him design a transportable amplifier to use at his own live shows. Consulting with musicians like THE WHO‘s Pete Townshend and DEEP PURPLE‘s Ritchie Blackmore, Marshall refined his invention and opened Marshall Amplification in 1962.
By the mid-1960s, he had created the classic Marshall Stack, consisting of one head containing the actual amplifier, on top of two stacked loudspeaker cabinets each containing four 12-inch loudspeakers arranged in a square layout. The setup has become an iconic symbol of rock music played as loud as possible.
