Writer Andrew Daly sat down with legendary Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry for a wide-ranging interview where the 73-year-old insisted that new music from the Boston legends could certainly happen.
“There’s definitely a possibility,” says Perry. “I know that Steven [Tyler] has got some stuff in his back pocket, so we’ll see. I’m currently writing stuff for a new Hollywood Vampires album, but after that… What we are definitely doing is remixing some of the early Aerosmith stuff and finding some interesting outtakes, so it’ll be fun to look at that stuff.”
Aerosmith’s last new material appeared on the ‘Music From Another Dimension’ album 13 years ago in 2012, so the band’s fans have been starved of new material. Perry, Tyler, bassist Tom Hamilton, guitarist Brad Whitford, and drummer John Douglas are heading out on the road for the last part of their ‘Peace Out’ tour that was halted in September of 2023 when Tyler developed vocal problems. There were fears the vocalist might never sing again. “It was pretty heavy,” Perry told Andrew Daly. “Imagine being told that you might not ever do it again. It all can be taken away so easily.” Now that Aerosmith are finally back in the saddle it looks like their rejuvenation could be made complete with new music.

Fresh off a triumphant seven-city North America tour this week, which included a stop at the famous Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, the HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES have unveiled the brand new song “The Boogieman Surprise”. At the aforementioned L.A. performance, Steven Tyler, the Aerosmith frontman and long-time musical partner of Joe Perry, turned up for a guest appearance, as did Marilyn Manson. Johnny Depp took lead vocals on Bowie’s “Heroes” and the “world’s most expensive bar band,” as proclaimed by Alice Cooper, delivered a live master class of rock ‘n’ roll, which included their newest track “The Boogieman Surprise.”
The song has been part of the band’s live set since the 2018 world tour and is a highlight of every Hollywood Vampires live show. Written by the band, it features the undeniable chemistry between rock and roll royalty Perry, Hollywood superstar Depp and shock rock icon Cooper. A laid back groove, grinding guitars, and smooth strings create an epic, ominous, outsider anthem with Cooper’s vocal sounding as fierce as ever. Their stage telepathy is showcased in the accompanying live video, filmed at the Montreux Jazz Festival 2018.

“Rise”, the band’s 2nd album, is some of the purest, unapologetic and most enjoyable rock and roll of the year, made by masters of the craft and true fans of the form.
Unlike their 2015 debut record, the new album “Rise” consists mainly of original material, written by the band. There are however, in the spirit of the Vampires’ original mission, three covers of songs originally written and recorded by some fellow rockers who died far too young: an intimate and intense version of David Bowie’s “Heroes”, again beautifully performed on record by Johnny Depp; the late Jim Carroll Band’s “People Who Died,” and Johnny Thunder’s “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory,” sung by Joe Perry.
Produced by Tommy Henriksen and the Hollywood Vampires, “Rise” is set to the most anticipated rock albums of 2019 will be released on June 21st, 2019 on earMUSIC as CD Digipak, 2LP+Download and Digital.
THE HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES return with new music from their explosive second album, “Rise”. Rock and roll royalty Joe Perry, Hollywood superstar Johnny Depp and shock rock icon Alice Cooper join forces once again for the unmissable rock album of 2019.
Seconds into the opening track “I Want My Now,” it’s clear this supergroup has created something special – the chemistry between the individuals is unmistakeable when they come together on stage or in the recording studio. Forget the star-studded lineup’s individual reputations, “Rise” is some of the purest, unapologetic and most enjoyable rock and roll of the year, made by masters of the craft and true fans of the form.
Unlike their 2015 debut record, the new album “Rise” consists mainly of original material, written by the band. There are however, in the spirit of the Vampires’ original mission, three covers of songs originally written and recorded by some fellow rockers who died far too young: an intimate and intense version of David Bowie’s “Heroes”, beautifully performed by Johnny Depp; the late Jim Carroll Band’s “People Who Died,” and Johnny Thunder’s “You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory,” sung by Joe Perry. Raucous rock anthems like “The Boogieman Surprise” and “Who’s Laughing Now” (the first single from the new album), capture the natural, raw, celebratory attitude of Hollywood Vampires displayed in their rowdy shows around the world. But the album shows off their range as well with tracks like “We Gotta Rise” – a tongue-in-cheek politics song in the the tradition of Alice’s “Elected” – to the psychedelic gothic epic of “Mr. Spider.”
“‘Rise‘ is not only a totally different animal than the first Vampires album, it is unique to anything I’ve ever been a part of. I approached it very differently than I usually do when working on an album. Each of us; Joe, Johnny, Tommy and myself have written songs on this album. What is different though is that I didn’t try to change any songs to be more “Alice-like.” Because each of us has different influences, the sound of this album is very cool. I think that with this album, we are establishing what the Vampires’ sound really is, whereas with the first album we were more tipping our hats to our fallen rock n roll brothers.” – Alice Cooper
“’Rise’ came from pure creative energy, which is just like playing live with the Vampires. The record showcases everyone doing what they do best without anyone looking over our shoulders. There was no pressure or deadlines, allowing us to write and record an album that is one of the freest and most honest sounding records I’ve been part of. I can’t wait to perform some of these tunes live for our fans.” – Joe Perry
earMUSIC, the global independent rock label of Edel Germany GmbH, is proud to announce the worldwide signing of Hollywood Vampires. Following the release of Alice Cooper’s 2017 studio album “Paranormal” on earMUSIC, his best chart-performing work in decades, the label is proud to welcome the band to their family.

He was seen to struggle during the performance in New York on July 10, then staggered off stage, where he collapsed and was stretchered out by emergency staff.
While the cause has not been officially provided, unconfirmed reports say he was suffering from dehydration and exhaustion, and was ordered by doctors to rest.

During the HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES‘ July 10th show at the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk, guitarist Joe Perry (Aerosmith) reportedly left the stage two songs into the band’s set and collapsed, reported Bravewords.com. The footage below shows Perry struggling to play before leaving the stage and the EMT’s rushing to help. The show continued without him.
Page Six is now reporting that Perry suffered a cardiac arrest at approximately 9:30pm and was taken to Coney Island Hospital. He is listed in stable condition.
Hollywood Vampires frontman and shock rock legend Alice Cooper later posted the following message:
“Thanks to everyone asking about our brother @JoePerry. He is stable right now, with family & is under the best care”

Following their wildly successful concerts at the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles, in front of 100,000 screaming fans at the Rock In Rio festival, and their spectacular worldwide television debut on the 2016 Grammy Awards reaching a global audience of almost 25 million people, fans worldwide demanded more. Hollywood Vampires– Alice Cooper, Joe Perry and Johnny Depp – always deliver and arranged their schedules to give their fans what they want.
Joining the Hollywood Vampires on tour are modern day Vampires Matt Sorum (Guns N’ Roses/The Cult) on drums, Robert DeLeo (Stone Temple Pilots) on bass, Tommy Henriksen (Alice Cooper) on guitar, and Bruce Witkin(The Kids) on piano, percussion and guitar. For tickets, visit this location.
“Here is a gang of friends who came together really by chance and over the last year we were finally able to wrangle our schedules and the energy just fell into place. Playing with this line up is like a dream come true. After seeing the reaction at Rock in Rio in front of 100,000 fans, I know this band is going to tear the house down. Hell, I would want to be in the audience to see us rip it up.” – Joe Perry
A super-group comprised of rock royalty and a Hollywood superstar, the Vampires will hit the stage offering fans a non-stop, energetic rock concert like no other, performing their new single “Bad As I Am” from their new deluxe album, as well as renditions of popular classics including “My Generation,” “Whole Lotta Love,” and a “School’s Out”/”Another Brick in the Wall” medley.
Hollywood Vampires released a new digital deluxe version of their self-titled album. This expanded version includes three additional songs, including one original and two rocking covers. The deluxe version includes the scorching new single “Bad As I Am” an original song penned by Johnny Depp, Tommy Henriksen, and Bruce Witkin and features Matt Sorum, Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, and Johnny Depp. Also included is “I’m A Boy,” a Who original, that was only available as a Japanese bonus track. “7 and 7 Is” is an unreleased track from the album sessions and is the classic song by the legendary Los Angeles band Love, a Vampires special pick and one that Alice covered on his 1981 solo album, Special Forces.
In 1969 on the Sunset Strip at a club called the Rainbow Bar & Grill, the Hollywood Vampires were born in the upstairs bar. It was a gathering place for the rock stars living in or passing through L.A. “To join the club, one simply had to out drink all of the members,” says Alice Cooper, a founding member of the original Vampires.
Cooper and good friend Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again (minus the drinking). Cooper and Depp were joined by Joe Perry, who is an old friend of both, and the recording began: a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires. An environment was born for great artists to hang, laugh and play together.

According to Rollingstone.com, HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES, the supergroup featuring Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper and Joe Perry, have announced their first live dates, set for next month. Rounding out the lineup will be former Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum, both of whom also play in the supergroup Velvet Revolver.
The name HOLLYWOOD VAMPIRES references a loose collective of rockers, including Cooper, John Lennon, Harry Nilsson and Keith Moon, who got together in the early Seventies and drink on the Sunset Strip at the Rainbow. Cooper’s crew – which is issuing its debut album, Hollywood Vampires, on September 11th – plans on keeping true to its moniker’s origins.
The first Hollywood Vampires concerts will take place at the fabled Sunset Strip outpost the Roxy on September 16th and 17th. It will be the group’s only U.S. show. Cooper guitarist Tommy Henriksen will also be playing at the show as will bassist Bruce Witkin, who played with Depp in a band called the Kids. Tickets for both shows go on sale Friday via Ticketfly.
The group has also planned an appearance in Brazil on September 24th as part of the Rock in Rio festival. Prior to that show, the band will be meeting with the Starkey Hearing Foundation to help fit 150 people in need with hearing aids and bring some of the fans to the show so they can hear music for the first time.
As for the Vampires’ music, the crew plays a mix of cover songs by members of the original Hollywood vampires, including the Who’s “My Generation,” the Doors’ “Five to One” and “Break on Through,” Nilsson’s “Jump Into the Fire,” Lennon’s “Cold Turkey” and Jimi Hendrix’s “Manic Depression,” among others, along with some original tunes. Their debut album will feature a number of notable special guests, including Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Slash, Joe Walsh and AC/DC’s Brian Johnson. Video of the group’s star-studded recording sessions can be seen here, with artist proceeds from the album going to the charity MusiCares.
