In this latest episode of his ‘Peaceville Days’ podcast, Dave Pybus catches up with vocalist Tomas Lindberg of influential Swedish death metal masters AT THE GATES, and discusses the formative years of the band and their Deaf Records/Peaceville legacy, as well as thoughts on AT THE GATES’ album visual aesthetics, including Tomas’ input in the design of the iconic Darkthrone logo.
In the Peaceville podcast series, former Peaceville Records employee, Dave Pybus, responsible for the layout and design of many classic titles (and perhaps more widely known for his time with Anathema and Cradle of Filth), discusses his days at the company at the start of the 1990s, and talks with some of the bands and artists from back then, reflecting on the ways of the industry and the changes since.
Gothenburg based Swedes AT THE GATES who formed in 1990, are one of the most important bands in the history of death metal. But, with that sort of reputation comes expectation and pressure. Especially when you are dealing with the band’s first new studio album since 1995. Indeed, after several reunions in the last almost 25 years, AT THE GATES have “blown up the bank” with their new and fifth album “At War With Reality”, released on October 27, via Century Media Records.
Just a couple of weeks before the release, Tarja Virmakari had a long and interesting chat with the band’s frontman and vocalist Tomas Lindberg, who is considered one of The Greatest Metal Frontmen of All Time. Tarja and Tomas spoke at length about the new album, choosing a couple of songs to review in detail. Tomas also revealed many interesting details about the main concept… “At War With Reality” is all about Magic Realism… if you want to know more about it, and other topics, please join the conversation below.
Nuclear Blast announces that International grindcore “Supergroup” LOCK UP featuring Tomas Lindberg (AT THE GATES,DISFEAR), Anton Reisenegger (PENTAGRAM CHILE,CRIMINAL), Shane Embury (NAPALM, DEATH, BRUJERIA, VENOMOUS CONCEPT) and Nick Barker (ex-CRADLE OF FILTH, ex-DIMMU BORGIR) will undergo a brief European club tour in Febuary 2013 in support of their lastest album “Necropolis Transparent” on Nuclear Blast records.
The tour, tentatively named “Infiltrate And Destroy Europe 2013” will see LOCK UP, who is primarily an open air festival band and an act not really known for participating in the usual touring cycles due to the individual band members main commitments and busy full-time schedules, will play a 10 date up-close-and-personal club tour which takes the band through such territories as U.K., France, Germany, Switzerland, Czech Republik, Austria and Belgium.
Drummer Nick Barker commented: “We’re really excited and looking forward to blasting our way across Europe in Febuary 2013.Lock Up on the whole, don’t really get to do club tours very often so this is a great opportunity for us do what we do,get up close and in your face with the fans,in a more intimate setting as opposed to playing the bigger open air festival stages we’re accustomed to.Don’t get me wrong we love playing the big festivals, but with the brutal and savage nature of our music, its very well suited in a club enviroment and we feel both the band and fans vibe on that a lot more”.

Swedish death metallers SARGATANAS REIGN have announced that Tomas Lindberg (AT THE GATES, SKITSYSTEM, THE CROWN, LOCK UP) will guest on their upcoming album, “Godwork”. The band states, “This man has been around for many years and is still going strong! He has done so much in his career and made important contributions. And what an amazing job he did for us! His voice is like a rusty chainsaw which leaves no one untouched!”
Also making guest appearances on “Godwork” are Joakim Göthberg, the former frontman for DIMENSION ZERO and MARDUK; Mathias Lillmåns, the vocalist of FINNTROLL, THE INIQUITY DECENT and MAGENTA HARVEST; and SCAR SYMMETRY singer Roberth Karlsson.
SARGATANAS REIGN‘s sophomore album, “Bloodwork – Techniques Of Torture”, came out in 2005 via Blooddawn Productions/Regain Records.
According to the band’s official bio, SARGATANAS REIGN‘s take on old-school American death metal creates a unique blend that is sure to attract fans of the most brutal metal and more commercial metal genres alike. Source: Blabbermouth.net
