IN FLAMES, IRON MAIDEN, AVENGED SEVENFOLD and SABATON are among the artists who were honored at this past Saturday night’s (April 2) Bandit Rock Awards at Münchenbryggeriet in Stockholm, Sweden. The awards ceremony was organized and hosted by the Stockholm-based radio station Bandit Rock 106.3.

Former In Flames, The Haunted, Grave Members Join Forces In The Resistance

Former members of IN FLAMES, THE HAUNTED and GRAVE joined forces in a brand new Sweden-based metal band called THE RESISTANCE.

The group’s lineup is as follows:

* Marco Aro (FACE DOWN, ex-THE HAUNTED) – Vocals
* Jesper Strömblad (ex-IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) – Guitar
* Glenn Ljungström (ex-IN FLAMES, DIMENSION ZERO) – Guitar
* Alex Losbäck Holstad (ex-DESPITE, DECAMERON, CARDINAL SIN) – Bass
* Chris Barkensjö (CARNAL FORGE, GODSIC, ex-GRAVE) – Drums

Strömblad quit IN FLAMES in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction.

DIMENSION ZERO‘s third album, “He Who Shall Not Bleed”, was released in 2008 via Vic Records. The CD contained “11 tracks of aggressive, fast and melodic Gothenburg metal,” according to a press release.

FACE DOWN entered the Swedish hard rock album chart at position No. 19 with its last effort, “The Will to Power”, which came out in November 2005.

In Flames Signs With Century Media Records

Swedish metallers IN FLAMES have inked a deal with Century Media Records. The band’s tenth album, “Sounds Of A Playground Fading”, will be released on the following dates:

Sweden – June 15
Germany – June 17
Rest Of Europe – June 20
North America – June 21

The first single will be out in early May.

13 songs were laid down for the CD, which was recorded at the band’s IF Studios in Gothenburg with engineer Roberto Laghi (HARDCORE SUPERSTAR, LOK, SONIC SYNDICATE).

In an exclusive interview with the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet, IN FLAMES vocalist Anders Fridén, 38, revealed that “Sounds Of A Playground Fading” will almost certainly challenge the band’s fans’ musical expectations.

“We have some songs that pretty much go against the hard rock formula,” he said. “There’s a song called ‘The Attic’ where we have an accordion playing the chorus instead of me singing it. Another song begins with a spoken-word part that evolves into a kind of hard DEPECHE MODE-type thing. We also have some really fast, typical IN FLAMES tunes.

He added, “We’ve never denied where we come from, but at the same time we like to challenge our listeners.”

In Flames Adds New Guitarist

Swedish metallers IN FLAMES have officially recruited Niclas Engelin from fellow Swedes ENGEL as their new second guitarist.

Engelin has been touring with IN FLAMES for the past couple of years as the replacement for Jesper Strömblad, who quit the band in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction.

Slipknot, In Flames, Opeth, Sonata Arctica, Stam1na Confirmed For Finland’s Sonisphere

SLIPKNOT, IN FLAMES, MASTODON, OPETH, SONATA ARCTICA and STAM1NA are the first confirmed bands for the Finnish installment of the Sonisphere festival, set to take place July 2, 2011 at Kalasatama in Helsinki.

A severe thunderstorm hit Sonisphere festival in Pori, Finland last August. Strong gusts of freak wind damaged the stages and knocked down tents and fences. Around 40 people were injured, two of them seriously, and received treatment in hospital. The second stage was damaged beyond repair and to guarantee the safety of the audience, artists and crew the authorities closed the stage. The storm damaged MÖTLEY CRÜE‘s equipment, forcing the band’s show to be cancelled. IGGY POP did play, performing an acoustic four-track set on the main stage, while the Sonisphere crew worked hard behind the scenes to dry everything out and make repairs to damage across the site.

The group states, “We are very happy with the result.”
