When KRAKOW released their 2015 album “amaran” on Dark Essence Records, fans of the band were given an insight into the calmer side of the band. With its dream-like soundscapes interspersed with harsher, more sinister atmospheres and an experimental, drone feel, certain tracks on the album were always going to lend themselves to visualization. It is one of these tracks – the album opener “luminauts” – that KRAKOW have chosen to make into a lyric video. The result an extraordinary blend of music and visuals that are combined to create a piece of art that exudes mystery and, it has to be said, has a quasi-mystical feel. The video is streaming exclusively on Noisey and can be seen at http://noisey.vice.com/blog/krakow-luminauts-video
Talking about the video, the band had this to say: “The lyric video for ‘luminauts’ was an initiative by Polish video artist MARCIN HALERZ from Red Pig Productions (HATE, VOODOO GODS, SARATAN, DECAPITATED, KAMPFAR, etc.), and his creative thoughts led us to choose this particular track. The musical and lyrical themes throughout the song represent the band’s contrasting sides, and this was interpreted with grace by Mr. Halerz. It is indeed a visual concretization of a band that often veers off into the abstract, and a significantly different, and fascinating, way to experience a KRAKOW song”.
Formed in the fall of 2005, KRAKOW ‘s lineup consists of experienced musicians whose skills are beyond doubt, and includes Kjartan Grønhaug on guitars, René Misje on guitars and vocals, bassist and vocalist Frode Kilvik (AETERNUS, VITHR, GRAVDAL) and Ask Ty Ulvhedin Arctander (KAMPFAR, HADES ALMIGHTY) on drums. “amaran”, the follow up up to 2012’s much praised sophomore album “diin”, was produced by long-time collaborator Iver Sandøy at Solslottet and Duper Studio, with artwork by Thomas Hooper . According to the band, its making was “a journey, never easy, but always thrilling”.
