Graspop Metal Meeting 2013 is already shaping up to be a vintage edition of Belgium’s premier metal festival.
“Following the confirmation of headliners Iron Maiden for Sunday 30 June, we are pleased to announce another 22 names for next year’s festival: In Flames, Stone Sour, Parkway Drive, Saxon, Coal Chamber, Epica, Kreator, Mayhem, The Devil Wears Prada, Dark Funeral, Absu, God Seed, Every Time I Die, Winterfylleth, Lock Up, Aura Noir, After The Burial, Dunderbeist, Between The Buried And Me, Bullet, Heaven’s Basement, Hacktivist.“

About the new names:
In Flames has been a GMM favourite for as long as we can remember and contrary to many other bands in the business, these guys don’t need a breather and just keep forging ahead. Their 2011 release ‘Sounds of a Playground Fading’ confirmed the band’s shift to the more poppy side of metal with clean vocals and more synthesizers. The album catapulted In Flames into the big leagues, as illustrated by their triumphant gig at this summer’s Lokerse Feesten.
Mayhem is probably the band with the most turbulent and eventful past ever to play our festival. The lives of these pioneers of Norwegian black metal are inextricably tied up with murder, suicide, substance abuse and violence, but let’s be honest here: black metal is not for the faint of heart.
Dark metal fans will be glad to hear Dark Funeral, Winterfylleth, Aura Noir, God Seed and Absu have also been confirmed for GMM2013.
With seven GMM appearances to their credit, Saxon are a household name at our festival. Their 8th GMM show promises to be a memorable occasion because the Barnsley lads are bringing their full Eagle Show.
This year marks Epica’s 10th anniversary and what better way to celebrate than with the band’s 6th GMM appearance? The band offers a blend of symphonic metal, death metal and gothic metal so there’s something for everyone here. We’re expecting fireworks both on and off stage for this one!
Mille Petrozza and Kreator have been shattering eardrums for over thirty years now and like wine, Kreator’s music just seems to get better with age. Their previous GMM set was one of the most memorable performances of GMM2011 so it’s great to have them back. Look forward to a mix of tracks from 2012’s ‘Phantom Antichrist’ album and thrash classics like ‘Flag of Hate’ and ‘Pleasure to Kill’. Thrash metal across the generations…

Between The Buried And Me’s ambitious concept album, The Parallax II: Future Sequence, gave the North Carolina-based band their highest one week sales figure and Billboard chart position (17,102 and #22 respectively) since the band’s inception in the early 2000’s.

The band, who are currently in Gothenburg, Sweden expressed their appreciation: “We are extremely grateful for everyone sticking with us all these years; through all the epic journeys we’ve put you through, all the style changes and the crazy storylines… you’ve blown us away and we couldn’t be any more excited and thankful.”
The album also landed the #3 spot on Billboard’s Hard Music Album chart, as well as #8 on the trade magazine’s Rock Album Chart. Additionally, The Parallax II charted at #5 on Billboard’s Indie Label Album chart and at #10 on the Billboard Indie Retail Album chart. Previously, Between The Buried And Me’s highest charting release was the 2009 release of The Great Misdirect, which entered Billboard at #36.
Internationally the band and their brilliant album fared equally well, taking the #1 spot on iTunes Canada’s Metal chart upon release and landing at the #5 spot on the Billboard’s Canadian Hard Music Chart (#46 on the nation’s Top 200 Album chart). In the UK, The Parallax II debuted at #15 on the Rock/Metal Chart and at #30 on the country’s Indie Chart. Lastly, in Germany, Between The Buried And Me took the #6 spot on the German Newcomer Chart (as well as #102 on the German Trend Chart).
Alternative Press said the band “continue to dominate progressive metal” with the new album, adding they are “expanding on every already-top-notch aspect” of their previous releases. Spin said The Parallax II is “a 72-minute space voyage that feels like a conceptual odyssey,” Metal Sucks dubbed it a “masterpiece, Outburn called the release “otherworldly” and Loudwire described the album as “quintessentially brilliant.”
The Parallax II, recorded during the Spring of 2012 at The Basement Studios in Winston-Salem, N.C., was once again produced by the band and longtime creative partner Jamie King. This is Between The Buried And Me’s first full-length release on Metal Blade Records, preceded by The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues, an EP that began the story of the two characters: Prospect I and Prospect II. A video for “Astral Body,” the first single from The Parallax II, gives fans their first look at the two characters in a visually-stunning clip.

BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME‘s bus caught fire in England this morning. Fortunately, no equipment was damaged, and everyone made it out ok.

Guitarist Paul Waggoner elaborates: “Fuel line done broke. Dadgum flame come shootin out. Peeewwww eeehhhhh sometin’ stank. Crazy British feller come hollerin, ‘Bus on fire, ya’ll git.’ Climb up the ol’ hill barefoot and look back at them flames shootin sky high. Firemen folk come rushin up real quick like and squirt that fire plum out. It was lucky nobody was hurt, not even a stubbed toe. Luggage stank like a Mississippi cow pie on a mid july heat. Hopefull, come tomorra, a new horse n’ buggy come. We’ll giddy on up to Belgium town for a good ol’ fashioned hootnanny. Whoo-Doggies!!!”
BTBAM released their new 72 minute-long opus, The Parallax II: Future Sequence, today. Check out audio samples from the album below:

The Parallax II: Future Sequence was recorded at The Basement Studios in Winston-Salem, NC with longtime friend of the band and producer Jamie King. Jamie engineered, mixed and mastered The Parallax II: Future Sequence, which makes this the sixth release Jamie and BTBAM have worked together on.
The Parallax II: Future Sequence tracklisting:
‘Goodbye To Everything’
‘Astral Body’
‘Lay Your Ghosts to Rest’
‘Autumn’
‘Extremophile Elite’
‘Parallax’
‘The Black Box’
‘Telos’
‘Bloom’
‘Melting City’
‘Silent Flight Parliament’
‘Goodbye To Everything’ – Reprise
The new video for the clip ‘Astral Body’ – directed by Wes Richardson – can be seen below:
Regarding the concept of The Parallax II: Future Sequence, the new full-length album picks up where the 2011 EP, The Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogues, left off. “The two main characters of the story take on a journey through space and time with the unenviable task of having to cure the flaws of humanity by any means necessary. While the EP served mostly as an introduction to the characters, Future Sequence contains the action of the story. The lyrics are written in the stream of consciousness style, which really helps to capture the perspective and emotion of the characters. We really enjoyed the challenge of writing this record, and I think we were all pleasantly surprised with how well the music and lyrics jived with one another. I couldn’t be happier with how Future Sequence turned out,” comments guitarist Paul Waggoner.
Vocalist and keyboardist Tommy Rogers adds his thoughts on the musical direction of The Parallax II: Future Sequence. “This album is Between The Buried And Me on steroids. I feel like we have created an album that perfectly mirrors the band we’ve been trying to create since day one. An album that has sounds that will stimulate many genres and music fans alike. A conceptual journey that takes the listener to worlds that seem familiar and worlds that make you scratch your head. From start to finish this is music we want to create, not music we think people want us to create. We create songs that keep us (and hopefully you) excited about heavy music. Keep listening… something new will be there each time. Enjoy the music… we enjoyed writing it.”
