According to the Mayan calendar the world was supposed to end today, so if you’re reading this it’s safe to assume the Mayans were way off base. Just as well, too, because GMM2013 will shake Dessel to its foundations and we’ve got 15 new confirmations to help us do just that: Korn, Bullet For My Valentine, King Diamond, Testament, Hellyeah, Ghost, Katatonia, Caliban, Moonspell, Unleashed, Entombed, Red Fang, Amaranthe, Veil Of Maya and Varg.
Our best season’s greetings and a fantastic start to the new year!
About the new names:
With King Diamond we’re adding a legendary band to our 2013 lineup. The Danish heavy metal band around the eponymous lead singer arose in the mid-eighties from the ashes of another legendary metal act called Mercyful Fate and quickly rose to prominence. King Diamond’s 30+ year musical career is one of the most storied in history of heavy metal, but the tale is not yet over! The most receKingDiamondnt release, 2007’s Grammy nominated album ‘Give Me Your Soul … Please’, stands as one fo the most critically-acclaimed albums in an already iconic discography. You will be treated to the largest and most involved stage production in the band’s storied history. Horror concepts from multiple albums will be used in the décor! Feast your eyes and ears on this creative centipede at GMM2013!
Korn and Bullet For My Valentine need no introduction and we’re pleased to welcome these three household names back to our festival. Why? Because they’re popular as hell, they enjoy playing here and they deserve it. Welcome back guys!
Red Fang is a catchy heavy stoner rock band. After several successful tours supporting Mastodon and a first headlining tour in 2012, these guys are more than ready to make their mark on the major European festival stages.
For thirty years, the mighty Testament has been a tower of strength in the thrash landscape. Ever since the release of their epic debut ‘The Legacy’, the band around Eric Peterson and Chuck Billy has been a force to be reckoned with. Five years after their last GMM performance these thrash pioneers are back to treat us to the best of three decades of uncompromising thrash.
This February/March 2013, Rock the Nation America will present the elite from the dark way of the force, some of metal’s darkest and most ambitious prodigies that the scene has to offer. From the cold lands of Sweden, the return of the infernal black metal sons MARDUK. Co-headlining is Portugal’s dark gothic heavy hitters MOONSPELL. Backing the assault is Colombian/USA black metal rising demons INQUISITION. Continuing the event in fashion is Italy’s gothic melodic sensation THE FORESHADOWING, and to start up the fire, introducing Sweden’s dark rock / metal band DEATH WOLF (featuring MARDUK members).
“It’s with great delight that we return to your shores again in support of our latest album ‘Serpent Sermon'”, adds Morgan from Marduk. “We look forward to march across the continent delivering the gospel of the worm. No mercy will be given!!”
Moonspell’s Fernando Ribeiro also comments: “The time for a North American tour is finally up and we are proud to return overseas to bring you all the darkened magic of our Portuguese legend and sound, a rebellion made of passion and communion with the fans. We invite you all to witness the charm and power of ‘Alpha Noir’ and ‘Omega White’ but also to celebrate with us our Twentieth anniversary as a band and time travel with us to ‘Wolfheart,’ ‘Irreligious’ and songs never played before in the American territory. The time has come to gather the pack, let the games begin!!!”
“Inquisition is pleased to accept the invitation for a return to a second North American tour and evoke the magic of our majesty”, adds Dagon from Inquisition. “We hope to see those who missed us recently and those loyal supporters who choose to return. This shall be our final full North American tour until the new album is released in late 2013”.
Alex from The Foreshadowing also comments: “It will be our first time in North America and we are very proud to hit the road with such great bands!!! Are you ready to be part of the Second World?”
“Right upon the release of our second album we will be marching across the States on this killer tour, a hard hitting line up of bands ready to bring darkness over the continent”, adds Morgan while introducing Death Wolf. “It’s the first proper tour Death Wolf is doing and soon, the march of the Death Wolf will begin! The circle of abomination is coming…”
The Into Darkness Tour, featuring PAIN, MOONSPELL, SWALLOW THE SUN, LAKE OF TEARS and SCAR OF THE SUN kicked off on November 9th at Musichall in Geiselwind, Germany. They played in Zlin, Czech Republic on November 17th and Pain’s Michael Bohlin has checked in with the following update:
“This was the third time we were in Zlin in 1.5 years now, and this is the place where we filmed most part of the new DVD, We Come In Peace. Me and Johan took a walk to the city centre of Zlin, where most stores where closed and the main square was empty and quiet. Saturday seems to be a day where most places are closed in this country. But we found a shopping mall that was open anyway and I bought the Thunderbolt/Ethernet adapter to my Mac that I had been looking for.
After dinner we had a signing session of the new DVD at Masters Of Rock Cafe with loads of people. Then I went to the bus to have some sleep again (as I have been doing almost every day so far) until showtime. It was only a few tickets from being a sold out show which meant at totally packed Masters of Rock Cafe this night. The show went fine but it was so hot we almost fainted, all of us! Peter had to take off his straightjacket which has never happened before and the stage floor was all wet from us running around dripping of sweat. After the show we all agreed this was the worst (hottest) show any of us have ever done. Instruments, in-ear receivers and other stuff where all soaking wet, but functioned flawless all through the show.
We also contributed with some souvenirs to the manager of Masters of Rock Cafe to be put on the wall among all other stuff there. It contained a signed tour shirt, a signed drumhead, personal guitar picks and drumsticks. It will all be put in a nice frame and seen on the wall there in the future. Thank you all Czech Painheads for giving us such overwhelming treatment and great show, this is why we love to come back to your country over and over again!
Next stop tonight: Warsaw, Poland. 13 down 8 to go.”
According to a press release, “the gaping, sinister and black abyss has many faces – just like its musical offspring…for the second time, the Into Darkness tour will crawl upon Europe! In time for the dawning of black winter days, a live package will start hitting clubs November 9th and boasting a line up full of dark gems of the widest stylistic variety: industrial metal, gothic tunes, melancholic doom – this tour has it all!”
Pain recently released a live clip of the song ‘Dirty Woman’, recorded at the Masters Of Rock Festival 2012, and featured on the upcoming We Come In Peace, which will be released as a DVD+2CD digibook and Blu-Ray+2CD digibook. Watch below:
