We have a few labels interested right now, but we are making sure that we find someone that can work with us for a long time. This is not a project, this is a band. So we hope we are on the road some time next year if all goes well.”

Instrumental melodic rock fans will be rejoicing this September as renowned guitarist Joe Matera unleashes his new album, “Creature Of Habit”, on the world. The Australian native has built up a fine body of work to date and this may well be his best yet.
Following in the tradition of fellow instrumental artists such as Joe Satriani, Matera has added a vocal track to the album as well as the eleven instrumental numbers (nine plus three bonus) on offer here.
Backing up Matera on “Creature Of Habit” are American drummer James Strickler (ANGELIC RAGE), who also handles bass on several songs, and Tony Dolan (VENOM, MPIRE OF EVIL) on bass on three tracks and Rich Davenport on one.
Matera is also joined by a few guests, THE ANGELS‘ Rick Brewster, SMOKIE‘s Mick McConnell — both of whom who appeared on Matera‘s 2011 EP, “Slave To The Fingers” — make a welcome return, again contributing a guest guitar solo to one track a piece (Brewster on “No Way!” and McConnell on “Outland”), while Fred Mascherino (TAKING BACK SUNDAY, THE COLOR FRED, TERRIBLE THINGS) lays down a stunning guitar solo on “Endless Summer”.
A much admired artist and esteemed music journalist, Matera is a man of many talents. “Creature Of Habit” easily highlights just how much his music means to him and how dedicated he is to producing the best album he can.
The documentary by director Joshua Callis-Smith A History Of A Time To Come has added interviews with VENOM and RAVEN to the line-up of over 20 bands which already includes EVILE, ONSLAUGHT, LAWNMOWER DETH and XENTRIX.
The film will be wrapping production this month and moving into the post-production phase with a likely release towards the end of 2012. Director Joshua Callis-Smith commented: “The production so far has been great, we’ve spoken to some amazing people and really uncovered a great story set within the scene. Interviewing Mantas from Venom has definitely been a highlight and a real eye opener to how the genre started. I’m now looking towards getting stuck into the edit and crafting the story we’ve captured.”
The film covers the complete story of the UK thrash metal scene – its ups, its downs and its impact on the UK and global music industry. Until now there has been no complete documentation of the movement, with bands disappearing amongst the dark recesses of the Internet, shelved magazines or out-of-print CDs. The project plans to pull together and uncover the full story of the U.K. thrash scene, from its roots in the mid-’80s until the present day, telling the story of dreams fulfilled, hopes dashed and the enduring memories.
U.K. music journalist Greg Moffitt is currently writing a book entitled One Foot in the Gravy to accompany the film. Together, the documentary and the book will provide the definitive account of the UK thrash scene from its roots in the 1980s until the present day.
As a companion piece to the film, One Foot in the Gravy will expand the narrative, adding layers of detail and exploring in greater depth the development, decline and eventual re-emergence of UK thrash.
The following bands are involved in the project so far: ACID REIGN, ANIHILATED, ARBITRATER, ATOMKRAFT, D.A.M., DEATHWISH, EVILE, HELLBASTARD, HOLOSADE, HYDRA VEIN, LAWNMOWER DETH, METAL MESSIAH, MUTANT,, ONSLAUGHT, PENDEMIA, PITIFUL REIGN, RAVEN, RE-ANIMATOR, SABBAT, SAVAGE MESSIAH, SEREGON, SEVENTH ANGEL, SHORT SHARP SHOCK, TORANAGA, VENOM, VIRUS, XENTRIX.
The latest trailer from the film can be seen here.
