Graspop Metal Meeting is pleased to confirm another 22 bands for 2014 Line up: Megadeth, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Alice In Chains, Mastodon, Anthrax, Meshuggah, Satyricon, Gojira, Candlemass, Dark Tranquility, Suicide Silence, The Church Of Pungent Stench, Buckcherry, Thy Art Is Murder, Novembers Doom, Amenra, Of Mice & Men, In Solitude, Glorior Belli, Carach Angren, Letlive.

MEGADETH’s previous GMM show in 2012 blew everyone away. The band of singer/guitarist Dave Mustaine has a proud history and ‘Peace Sells… But Who’s Buying’, ‘Rust in Peace’ and ‘Countdown to Extinction’ are all landmark thrash albums. Mustaine has really come into his own in recent years, a fact illustrated by Megadeth’s 14th studio album ‘Super Collider’. The new kick-ass album is a worthy addition to Megadeth’s impressive catalogue and is one of 14 excellent reasons why the kings of speed metal should close the day’s proceedings on main stage 2 on Sunday 29th June.
This year, the GMM air will once again be rife with cries of SLAYER! The evil of Slayer has no boundaries and they show no mercy! These American thrash legends need no introduction because their perpetual hate offensive has been claiming souls worldwide for over thirty years now. They say that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and that also goes for Slayer. The band suffered a crushing blow last year when the angel of death sent riffmeister and founding guitarist Jeff Hanneman south of heaven but in 2014 Slayer are more brutal and merciless than ever. Fuelled by a newfound rage, battering-ram drumming, screaming solos and relentless riffs, the Californian thrash machine will bring an onslaught no one can survive.
Following a number of tumultuous years at the start of the millennium, ANTHRAX rallied with the 2011 release of their best album in years, one with a title that leaves nothing to the imagination: ‘Worship Music’. Live on stage Anthrax is an indestructible force and thanks to the Big 4 shows with their brethren of Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica, Anthrax reclaimed their rightful place at the top of the thrash food chain.
The multi-talented ROB ZOMBIE started out as the frontman for White Zombie. When White Zombie disbanded, he built an impressive solo career and also made a name for himself as the director of several acclaimed horror flicks. White Zombie was mainly successful in the early ‘90s. Records like 1993’s ‘La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1’ and the platinum-certified ‘Astro-Creep: 2000’ are still as exciting today as at the time of their release. Unfortunately, the latter album also heralded the demise of the band. Rob immediately focused on a solo career and in 1998 ‘Hellbilly Deluxe’ became a smash hit. The ferocious-looking frontman continued to put out high-quality, horror-inspired records that carried his unique heavy/groovy signature, with 2013’s ‘Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor’ as the latest highlight.

According to Nuclear Blast Records, Members of MACHINE HEAD, METALLICA, SLAYER, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, SUICIDE SILENCE, DEATH ANGEL, FORBIDDEN, SPIRALARMS and RUBBLE will perform classic songs by BLACK SABBATH as part of an all-star tribute band that will headline the “Robb Flynn & Friends” benefit concert on Friday, January 17 at the Oakland
Metro Operahouse in Oakland, California.

FORBIDDEN and SPIRALARMS guitarist Craig Locicero, who organized and will also take part in the event, had the following to say about how the idea for the benefit concert came about: “A good friend of ours and all around great person, Nikki Davis, was in a motorcycle accident with her husband Jeff. Sadly, Jeff died at the scene. Fortunately, Nikki survived but she was unconscious for a few days. She awoke to the daunting reality that her husband, soulmate and best friend had passed away. It was heartbreaking to all of us in the Bay Area scene.
“Robb Flynn and I have known Nikki for at least 25 years and she is a huge supporter of the Bay Area’s metal and punk scene.
“I wanted to help Nikki out a year ago, but most every band was busy on tour and unavailable. A few weeks ago, I had approached Robb about doing a benefit for Nikki and he thought it was a great idea.
“Robb has gone above and beyond to help bring together something very special and memorable to help Nikki on January 17th. He’s been the catalyst for getting this thing off the ground so quickly and Nikki is very thankful.
“We hope to raise enough money to help Nikki continue to get back on her feet because the healing is not finished. She still has medical bills to pay and we want to do anything we can to help our old friend.”
For those who can’t attend the concert, donations can be made to Nikki’s PayPal account at help_jeff_n_nikki_d@yahoo.com.
